FLAG RAISING CEREMONY SPEECH

YOUTH LEADERS
MARCH 25, 2019

A burning and blistering smile to everyone.

We are all aware that March is a special month for us. Not only
because it’s the Fire Prevention Month, but because our Bureau’s drive and
indispensable role is being recognized locally, and nationally. The previous
talks are all about this month’s celebration. Since we already have enough
knowledge for that, allow me then to speak a different topic for today’s flag
raising ceremony.

A philosopher once said, “Ang Kabataan ang pag-asa ng Bayan.” They

are integral and essential part of a society and our community is
incomplete without young bloods because they are the backbone of the
nation and has the capability to build a brighter future for the society,
based on values and courageousness. The young people can make a
difference.

Being a young leader and servant at the age of 24, managing this
municipality as your Fire Marshall, is never easy. It entails a lot of
responsibility and unending dedication to serve the general public. When
the phone rings and the occurrence of fire is being reported, you
immediately leave whatever you are doing and respond to it as fast as
possible. This the job we chose, the job we dreamed of– to save people at all
cost even if saving them may mean endangering ourselves.

Ladies and gentlemen let me tell you the values we should live by.
First, is integrity. Your personal integrity is sacred. It's at the root of what
you have to offer yourself and what you have to offer to the world. It's your

word, it's your family name, and it's the reputation of your community, all
rolled into one essence.

Second is commitment to excellence. When you go back home and

go to your job, give it your best. If you've given your best, you can be happy
with the result. If you know you can do better, go back and do it again. And
if you stumble along the way, take that as part of the learning process. As
Teddy Roosevelt said, "It is hard to fail, but it is worse never to have tried to
succeed. In this life we get nothing save by effort."

And finally, service above self. All of us have times when we just

don't want to go the extra mile to help the people around us. It takes real
discipline to put our duties first, but it's discipline that helps us rise above
ourselves, to make ourselves better, to get ready for the next challenge.

Honestly, I’m still a neophyte in this field. But I know that learning is
a never ending process. Therefore, I urge you ladies and gentlemen to let us
continue to perform well in our respective duties and responsibilities as
public servants, as we respond to the demands of time and the challenge of
providing efficient and effective service to the people.

To be a good and the best leader does not require any age. As long as
you have a heart willing to serve, a mind who does not think of quitting and
a soul dedicated for the people, you can be one.

I hope to have inspired you regarding this matter.
