From the beginning of this course, Psychology and Life, I learn that
psychology is formally defined as the scientific study of the behavior of
individuals and their mental process, and that many psychologists try to
find out answers to the fundamental question: What is human nature?
Change in appetite
Chest pain
Dry mouth
Headaches
High blood pressure
Insomnia (trouble sleeping)
Palpitations (the feeling that your heart is racing)
Sweating
In addition, this stressor may make me become a person with low self-
esteem. I may feel insecure, and my belief in my ability to reach defined
goals is weak. I may not want to be more tied to other people around us,
and my sense of social support possibly is no longer firm. I also realize
that the worst consequence of a person’s affirmation of low self-esteem
is that it can put me in a cycle of failure in which low self-esteem leads
to low expectations, reduced effort, elevated anxiety, poor performance,
and, finally, an affirmation of actual failure.
There are six strategies that are employed for keeping those relationships
active and making them valued (Alberts, 2007).
To sum up, a good management of stress will lead to the best conditions
for a person’s health and work productivity. However, there is no “one
size fits all” solution to coping stress. Responses to a stressor vary with
people with levels of calmness and control in front of stressful
situations.
