Hepatocytes within the liver produce bile which must be stored and then mobilized to the
duodenum via the bile duct
• Venous blood from the gastrointestinal tract via the hepatic portal vein (70%)
• Central veins from the liver drain into hepatic veins, which unite with the IVC below the diaphragm
