M y future: a Few year ago When I was in 8th grade, Iworried a iot
about my future. Every day. I thought “what am I going to do when I leave
school”?
I didn´t feel exited about the future – I just felt very scared. One reason was
that at that time I found school difficult. I Usually studied hard and listened
in class (weii, I thought so.), but my teachers never seemedto be very
happy with my work –or with me. When I think back to those times now,I
Remember that sometimes I didn´t concéntrate very well and I also handed
in work too late. This went on for most of the year, but then near the end
of theyear something happened. I suddenly knew what my dream job was. I love animals and I decided that I
wanted to become a vet¡
To do that I had to go to a good university. And to go to a good university, I had to get good marks and do
well in my exams.
From 9th grade onwards, I worked very hard every day in class. I studied for hours at home and my parents
even told me to work less¡ At the end of that year, I won a prize for my good marks. My family were so proud
of me and I felt great. But then,I started to worry again. I thought “What will happen if I don´t get good results
next year?and if I didn´t go to university,What would I do ?. Everyone told me that Ijust had to do my best
and to stop worrying. So that´s exactly what I did ¡.

Condicionales en inglés: Type I – First Conditional
If + present simple,… Will + infinitive.
If you come for the weekend, we will go to the cinema – Si vienes para el fin de semana, iremos al cine.
If you park here, you will get a fine – Si aparcas aquí, te van a multar.

Ejemplos:
If Bill studies, he will pass the exam. / Bill will pass the exam if he studies.(Si Bill estudia, aprobará el
examen
If it doesn’t rain, we will go to the beach. / We will go to the beach if it doesn’t rain. (Si no llueve, iremos a
la playa.)
Will you take the train if you miss the bus? If you miss the bus, will you take the train?

subordinada.
If + past simple,…would + infinitive.
If I won the lottery, I would spend my life travelling – Si ganara la lotería, me pasaría la vida viajando.
Ejemplos:
If I won the lottery, I would travel around the world. / I would travel around the world if I won the lottery.(Si
ganara la lotería, viajaría alrededor del mundo.)
If Rachel had more time, she would learn to play the guitar. / Rachel would learn to play the guitar if
she had more time.(Si Rachel tuviera más tiempo,
Aprendería a tocar la guitarra.)
Would you be happy if you were to get married? / If you were to get married, would you be happy?
(¿Estarías feliz si te casaras?)

JAMES SALTER’S DAYS IN FILM

James Salter was a pilot in the United States Air Force. He abandoned the military profession in 1957 after
the publication of his first novel, The Hunters. He is best known as a novelist, but during the sixties and
seventies, he worked in film making. Salter made documentaries, wrote texts for films, and even was the
director of a film called Three, starring Charlotte Rampling and Sam Waterston. In Passionate Falsehoods,
which was adapted from Salter’s book Burning the Days, published in The New Yorker in 1997, Salter tells the
story of his life in film. Salter’s time in the film world is both good and bad. In Rome, he met directors and
stars. In New York, he explored the city with Robert Redford and enjoyed being famous. Deborah Treisman
and Michael Agger have talked about Salter. Nick Paumgarten in The Last Book, describes Salter’s opinion
about his film career: “Of sixteen texts for movies, only four were popular. There was money, attractive
women, and entrance into rooms where there were stories more for the dinner table than for the page.”
Salter thought he was wasting his time. Perhaps he wasted his time in a larger artistic way, but it still makes
for attractive reading. The Last Book is available to everyone in online stores.
