Drawing project

With the Final Project, you are challenged to create your own composition. This creating process is
divided in few stages, and it is important you document every step accurately, because each step will be
reviewed and considered, as part of your research.

Stage 1: Nine sketches to your chosen song.

Pick 3 sentences or rhymes you really like. Visualize them in your head.
In your sketchbook, produce 3 different ideas for each rhyme. You should end up having 9 drawings.
The sketches must be:
 Black and white
 Elaborated enough (no stick people or stick objects, but outlined to an extent)
 Incorporate the text of the song somewhere on paper
 Have no negative space

Stage 2: Choose three sketches to elaborate into illustrations.

Out of the 9 works produced in your sketchbook, choose ONE for each sentence (the one you like the most). In
this way, you will end up with 3 chosen theme, one for each verse.

Stage 3: Elaboration of your illustrations

In a minimum A3 size, elaborate the 3 illustrations in greater detail. You can use the following techniques:
Pencil or pen.
The illustrations should have a tint of color, which can be added with colored pencils or watercolors. By no
means should the color be more predominant than the black and white.
The illustrations must be:
 Extremely elaborated
 Contain visuals that relate to the song & verses you choose
 Have almost no negative space
 Have areas of extreme contrast
 Have added a tinge of color

Stage 4: Research of your final piece

Write about your artwork, explaining the steps taken to get to the final point. Use art-related words and
emphasize on the technique used, the type of pencil used and the paper. Do the following, as per display:

Page 1:
UAEU logo, your name, your ID, the course, section, your prof.’s name and the name of the song, as a title for
your project. Use Times Roman Pt.11 throughout the presentation.
Pages 2, 3, 4 … the sketches.
On the left side: the 3 sketches for each song sentence, with an extensive explanation of the meaning of the
sketch (why you represented this particular subject matter and idea)
Pages 5, 6, 7, etc. the illustrations.
On the top of the page: your illustration n.1. Below, a description of it, including technique used, color, paper
used and any other detail. A statement of how you came up with the idea, and how you have improved/changed
from the sketch. In other words, explain the creative process you underwent.
One illustration for each page.

Stage5: you will have 3 Submissions boxes:

FE-ILL: here you submit the 3 illustrations as JPG

RES: here you submit your written research
FE-PORT: here you submit the portfolio of your work (all year) + all the sketches you
have done so far. Label the works as you did for the Mid Term but there is no need in
labeling the sketches
