[Sugriva tells Dadhimukha not to worry about the destruction of Madhuvanam. He asked him to send
Hanuman, Angada and others]

త ప తం నరం నరరభః.

దృ ౖ గ హృద క త చ హ৷৷5.63.1৷৷

తతః then, నరరభః bull among vanaras, forehead, ప త prostrated, నర vanara,

Dadhimukha, దృ ౖ వ as soon as he saw, ఉ గ హృదయః anxious at heart, ఏత these, క
words, ఉ చ హ spoke.

Feeling anxious on seeing Dadhimukha touching his feet with his forehead, Sugriva, the bull among vanaras
said:
ఉ షక త ం ద ఃప మమ.

అభయం భ ర సర య ৷৷5.63.2৷৷

ర hero, ఉ ష ఉ ష get up, get up, త you, క why, మమ my, ద ః feet, ప తః fallen,
to you, అభయ give you protection, భ you be, సర వ from all, అ య you may tell.

"O heroic Dadhimukha, get up. Tell me why you have fallen at my feet. I give you protection from all.
స త న ణమ త .

ఉ య మ క ంద బ ৷৷5.63.3৷৷

మ త great self, న ణ by Sugriva, తః given assurance, మ జః very wise, సః

ద ఖః that Dadhimukha, ఉ య got up, క these words, అ బ said.

When great Sugriva gave assurance to wise Dadhimukha, he got up and said:
వరరజ జన త .

వనం సృష ర ం భ తం తచ న ః৷৷5.63.4৷৷

O king, వన garden, ఋ రజ in Riksharaja's time, వ సృష ర ం

జ or even before,
త your time, న not, even at the time of Vali, న not, తచ accessible to go, న ః vanaras,
భ త finished eating.

"O king! in your time or even before, during the time of Vali, that (Madhuvanam) was forbidden for entry.
Now it has been laid waste by the trespassing vanaras.
ఏ ః పధ వ న వనర ః.

మ న న భ య బ చ৷৷5.63.5৷৷

ఏ ః they also, వనర ః garden guards, పధ వ even though resisted, న ః vanaras, ఇ

them, అ న not cared for, మ honey, భ య finished eating, బ చ and drinking.

"Even though the garden guards forcibly tried to prevent them they did not care and have devoured all the
honey.

షమ ప ధ భ య త ప .

ర స దర య ৷৷5.63.6৷৷

ష left over, అ త there, అప ధ thrown off, త similarly, అప others, భ య eating,

స all, ర ః when we prevented, వః eyebrows, దర య చ raising to show (a sign of
arrogance)

"Some have thrown off the leftovers, when others were prevented from drinking off the honey, they raised
their eyebrows (to show their grouch).
ఇ సంరబత స స మ ధ ః.

రయ వ త ౖ నర ఙ ః৷৷5.63.7৷৷

సంరబత ః when enraged guards, త that way, త from that, వ garden, రయనః vanaras,
ఇ to go, ౖ ః angry, ః they, నర ఙ ః vanara leaders, స మ ధ ః ill treated them.

"When the guards asked the vanaras to leave the garden the enraged vanaras misbehaved with them.
తత ర ౖ న నరరభ.

సంరకనయ ః దరయః ప ః৷৷5.63.8৷৷

నరరభ bull among vanaras, తతః then, in fury, సంరకనయ ః red-eyed, ః heroes, బ ః
many, ః them, న ః vanara guards, హరయః monkeys, ప ః chased.

"O Sugriva! the vanara guards were chased away by the many heroic monkeys, angry and red-eyed.
హ ః హ ః.

పకృ శ య మం వ రం చ ద ః৷৷5.63.9৷৷

some, ః with the hands, హ ః struck, some, ః on the knees, ఆహ ః beaten,

య మ as they liked, పకృ ః dragged, వ ర private parts, ద ః చ showed.

"Some were struck with hands, some beaten on their knees and were dragged as they liked and showed up
their private parts.
ఏవ హ స ష భర .

కృత ంమ వనం వ ప మం ః పభ ৷৷5.63.10৷৷

త you, భర when you are the king, ష staying, ఏ these, ః heroes, ఏవ in that way,
హ ః striking, ః they, కృత on the earth, మ వనం వ Madhuvanam aslo, ప మ at their
will, పభ eating so.

These heroes struck that way devoured the Madhuvanam on the earth at their will and devoured the honey
even when you are there as king.
ఏవం ప నం తం వం నరరభ .

అపృచ తం మ ల ణః పర ర ৷৷5.63.11৷৷

ఏవ in that way, ప న having appealed, నరరభ bulls among vanaras, తం వ to

Sugriva, పర ర killer of enemies, మ జః very learned, ల ణః Lakshmana, అపృచ enquired.

While Dadhimukha appealed thus to wise Sugriva, Lakshmana the killer of enemies happened to see them
and enquired:
మయం న జ వనపః ప ప తః.

కం రమ శ ః క మబ ৷৷5.63.12৷৷

జ O king!, వనప: protector of the garden, అయం నరః this vanara, why, ప ప తః came
here?, ః తః sad, క why, అర for what, అ శ what is he telling, క these words,
అబ said.

"O king! why has this protector of the garden come here? Why is he sad? What is he narrating, asked
Lakshmana.
ఏవ క ల నమ త .

ల ణం ప దం క ం క రదః৷৷5.63.13৷৷

మ త great prince, ల న by Lakshmana, ఏవ in that way, ఉకః having spoken, క రదః

proficient in speech, వః Sugriva, ఇద these, క words, ప చ replied.

Great prince Lakshmana thus said, Sugriva the proficient speaker replied:
ఆర ల ణ స హ ద ఖః క ః.

అఙద ప ర తం మ న ః৷৷5.63.14৷৷

త ద గ ర ఙ ః.

ఆర O venerable one!, ల ణ Lakshmana, రః hero, క ః monkey, ద ఖః Dadhimukha, స హ

to search, ద southern, ఆ hope, త having searched, ఆగ ః have come, హ ఙ ః
monkey leaders, ః heroic ones, అఙద ప ః Angada and others, న ః vanaras, మ honey,
భ త eaten.

'O venerable Lakshmana! Dadhimukha as complaining that the fruits and honey have been consumed by the
vanara heroes, Angada and others who have come after their search for Sita in the southern direction.
మకృ దృశ ప కమః৷৷5.63.15৷৷

ఆగ శ పమ తం య మ వనం ః.

ధ తం చ వనం కృత ప కం చ న ః৷৷5.63.16৷৷

ఆగ ః having come, ః those, న ః vanaras, మ వన Madhuvanam, య that way, పమ త

entered, కృత whole, వన garden, ధ త broken, ఉప కం చ right, ఏ they that way,
అకృతకృ if they had not accomplished their purpose, ఈదృశః this way, ఉప కమః indulged, న
not done.

"Those vanaras having entered Madhuvanam and broken the trees are quite right. Had they not accomplished

their purpose they would not have indulged themselves that way.
వనం య ప తం కర న ః.

దృ నస న నహ మ ৷৷5.63.17৷৷

they, య like that, వన garden, అ ప ః entered, న ం కర their duty, త had done,

queen, దృ saw, స హః doubt, న no, అ న others, న not, హ మ Hanuman.

"If they have trespassed into the garden that way, they might have done their duty. No doubt, Hanuman alone
among them might have seen Sita.
నహ న ధ ః కర స హ మతః.

ర ర వత నర ఙ ৷৷5.63.18৷৷

వ వ యశ ర ంచ తం ప త .

అస కర ణః that duty, ధ capacity, హ మతః Hanuman, అన ః others, ః the reason being, న

not indeed, ర : capacity to accomplish, మ వ even wisdom, వ వ యశ even strenuous
effort, ర ం చ and virility, తం enthusiasm, త for him, నర ఙ to only the foremost of
the monkys, ప త are well-established.

"Hanuman alone has the ability to do it, the reason being he has the capacity the wisdom, streneous effort,
virility and enthusiasm to accomplish it. These attributes are well-established in him.
మ న త దఙదశ మ బలః৷৷5.63.19৷৷

హ ం ప న తస గ రన .

య త where, మ Jambavan, is the leader, remains, మ బలః strong, అఙదశ

Angada also, హ ంశ and Hanuman, అ directing, తస that, గ ః will be done, అన
otherwise, న not.

Where Jambavan, Angada and Hanuman are leaders directing the task of the army it must have been
accomplished.
అఙద ప రతం మ వనం ల৷৷5.63.20৷৷

రయనశ స స హ ః.

అఙద ప ః Angada and other leaders, ః heroes, మ వన Madhuvanam, హతం ల destroyed

the garden, స ః along with others, రయనః చ when they were obstructed, త then, ః
knees, ఆహ ః beaten.

ఏతదరమయం వ ంమ ర హ৷৷5.63.21৷৷

ద మహ ః ప త కమః.

named, ద మ Dadhimukha, ప త కమః known for his valour, హ ః monkey,

ఏతదర on account of it, వ to tell, మ ర sweet tongued, ఇహ here, పః came.

"Here is Dadhimukha, a vanara, known for his valour and sweet tongue. He came here this incident to tell.
దృ మ పశ తత తః৷৷5.63.22৷৷

అ గమ త స బ మ న ః.

మ strong-armed, O Saumitri, Sita, దృ would have seen, తత తః truly, పశ

seen, త so, న ః vanaras, స all, అ గమ having arrived, మ honey, బ drank.

"O strong-armed Saumitri! the Vanaras must have seen Sita. Or else, they would not have arrived to drink
honey.
న ప దృ ం ః షరభ৷৷5.63.23৷৷

వనం దతవరం వ ం ధర ర కసః.

షరభ bull among men, ః renowned, వ కసః forest-dwellers, Vaidehi, అదృ

not seen, దతవర that which was given as boon, వ wonderful, వన garden, న ధర ః
entered.

"If the renowned vanaras had not seen Vaidehi, they would not have entered the wonderful garden granted as
boon (by Brahma).
తతః పహృ ధ ల ణస హ ఘవః৷৷5.63.24৷৷

కర ం ం వవద .

హృష త భృశం ల ణశ మ బలః৷৷5.63.25৷৷

తతః then, సహ ఘవః also Rama, ధ righteous, ల ణః Lakshmana, పహృషః very cheerful
rejoiced, వవద Sugriva's mouth, delivered, కర pleasing to the ears,
words, having heard, మః Rama, హృష త felt happy, మ బలః mighty strong, ల ణశ
even Lakshmana, భృశ very, హృష త happy.

"Then righteous Rama and Lakshmana rejoiced to hear the words of Sugriva, which were pleasing to the
ears.
ద ఖ దం వస మ హృష చ.

వన లం న క ం వః పత షత৷৷5.63.26৷৷

వః one with beautiful neck, వః Sugriva, ద ఖస Dadhimukha's, ఇద thus,

having heard, స మ హృష చ very glad, నః again, వన ల protector of the garden, క these
words, పత షత replied.

Beautiful-necked Sugriva heard Dadhimukha, the protector of the garden, felt very glad and replied:
హం య కం వనం ః కృతకర ః.

మ తం మర యం చ తం కృతకర ৷৷5.63.27৷৷

కృతకర ః having performed the duty, ః they, వన garden, య క for drinking that honey, సః
అహ I, తః అ I am pleased, కృతకర having accomplished the task, మర య are to be

excused, త their behaviour, మ త excused.

"They went to the garden to drink only after having performed their duty. I am glad about it. Since they have
accomplished the purpose, they are to be excused for their behaviour. I have pardoned them.
ఇ ఘం హ మ త మృ ం మృగ జద .

ద ం కృ సహ ఘ ం ంచ గ పయత ৷৷5.63.28৷৷

హ మత led by Hanuman, మృగ జద with the majesty of the lion, కృ

acomplished ones, them, మృ vanaras (who live on trees), ఘ ం సహ Rama and
others, ద to see, గ న to see Sita, పయత endeavour, ం చ to hear, ఇ
desiring.

స మ హృ దృ న ంచ .

అ ఃౖ సంహృ ౖ ః కర ం స ం తం ననన৷৷5.63.29৷৷

సః he (Sugriva), న ం king of vanaras, eyes filled with joy, స మ హృ very

happy, accomplished, young, దృ seeing, సంహృ ౖ ః very glad, అ ఃౖ limbs of the
body, కర task has been accomplished, ః shoulders, ఆస time has come,
recognising, అ త highly, ననన delighted.

"Beholding young Rama and Lakshmana extremely delighted, their eyes filled with joy out of fulfilment of
the purpose, Sugriva who was also highly delighted felt an auspicious thrill on his limbs and knew that good
time had come.
ఇ మ య యఆ నర ష తమస రః৷৷
Thus ends the sixtythird sarga of Sundarakanda of the holy Ramayana, the first epic composed by sage
Valmiki.

ణ by Sugriva, ఏవ in that way, ఉకః spoken, క ః monkey, ద ఖః Dadhimukha, హృషః

pleased, ఘవ Rama, ల ణం వ and also Lakshmana, వం చ and Sugriva, అభ దయ
offered salutations.

Pleased with Sugriva's command (to send forth Angada and Hanuman) Dadhimukha offered salutations to
Sugriva, Rama and Lakshmana.
స పణమ చ వం ఘ చ మ బ .

న ఃస తః వ త త హ৷৷5.64.2৷৷

సః he, Dadhimukha, వ to Sugriva, మ బ mighty strong, ఘ చ Rama, పణమ offering

Dadhimukha offered his obeisance to Sugriva and the mighty Rama and Lakshmana and rose up to the sky
followed by the vanaras.

స ప మ వనం దదర హ థ .

మ న హ న దక ৷৷5.64.4৷৷

మ వన Madhuvanam, ప షః entered, సః he, మ intoxication, మ దక honey and water,

హ voiding urine, స all, హ థ troops of vanaras, దదర saw.

Descending into Madhuvanam, Dadhimukha saw all the monkey troops free from intoxication (of honey-
wine).

ఉ చ వచనం శ దం హృషవదఙద ৷৷5.64.5৷৷

రః hero, సః he, కర ఞ cupping his palms reverentially, బ holding, him, ఉ గమ

returned, హృషవ with joy, అఙద Angada, శ conciliatory, ఇదం వచన these words, ఉ చ

"O handsome one, do not react harshly at these guards who have obstructed your companions out of

"O blameless prince! I have already told your father's elder brother and all the forest-dwellers about your
arrival here.
సత గమనం స ర థ ః.

పహృ న వనం పధ త ৷৷5.64.9৷৷

సః he, ఏ ః these, సహ with, త గమన your arrival, hearing, పహృషః very glad, you,
వన garden, పధ త destroying, having heard, అ he was, న షః not angry.

"He was not angry at your destruction of the garden. On the other hand, he was very glad to hear about your
arrival.

ఘం షయ స ం చ వః৷৷5.64.10৷৷

తృవ ః your father's brother, న శ రః lord of vanaras, వః king, వః Sugriva, పహృషః

happily, స all of them, ఘ quickly, షయ send, ఇ this, to me, ఉ చ హ said

"Your father's brother, Sugriva, the lord of vanaras felt very glad and indeed asked me

ద ఖ దం వచనం శ మఙదః.

అబ హ క ం క రదః৷৷5.64.11৷৷

ద ఖస to Dadhumukha, ఇద this, శ very good, వచన these words, having heard,

హ షః monkey leader, క రదః eloquent in speech, అఙదః Angada, to them, క these
words, అ బ said.

At these good words from Dadhimukha, Angada, the monkey leader, an eloquent speaker said this:.
శ యం వృ ణహ థ ః.

తతమం హ నః ం కృ పరన ః৷৷5.64.12৷৷

పరన ః scorcher of enemies, హ థ ః leader of monkeys, అయం వృ నః about this here,

ణ by Rama, తః having heard, శ I presume, త that, task, కృ having done, ఇహ here,
to be here, నః for us, న మ not proper.

"O scorcher of enemies! I presume Rama has already heard the news of our arrival on accomplishment of the
task. Hence it is not proper for us to tarry here.
మ య మం వన ణః.

ం షం గమనం త త యత ః৷৷5.64.13৷৷

వన ణః forest-rangers, vanaras, య మ as they desire, మ honey, having drunk,

ః rested, what, ష is left, my, ః king, వః Sugriva, య త where, త త there,
గమన have to go.

"The vanaras of the forest have taken rest after drinking as much honey as they desired. What is left here to
do? We have to go wherever Sugriva is."
స య ంవ స త హ థ ః.

త క కర భవ ః పర నహ ৷৷5.64.14৷৷

స all, హ థ ః monkey troops, స త assembled together, me, య like that, వ

would tell, య in that way, క we are to do, అ we, కర in our duty, అహ I am, భవ ః as you
say, పర have to do.

Angada said to the vanara troops assembled, "Tell me what we have to do. I shall act as you wish.
ప హం వ యద .

అ కం కృతక యం ధర ంమ ৷৷5.64.15৷৷

అహ I am, వ జః heir apparent, అ యద even though I am, ఆ ప to order you, న

ఈశః not lord, కృతక ణః accomplished dones, య troops, మ by me, ధర
ordering, అ క not proper.

"Even though I am heir apparent, it is not proper for me to order you.You have accomplished the purpose and

to command you is not befitting on my part."

వత ఙద వం వచనమవ య .

పహృషమన క ద ర కసః৷৷5.64.16৷৷

ఏవ in that way, వతః when said, అఙదస by Angada, అవ య priceless, వచన words,
having heard, వ కసః forest dwellers, పహృషమనః glad at heart, ఇద these, ఊ ః said.

On hearing Angada's valuable words said in that way, the vanaras repled:
ఏవం వ జ ప స నరరభ.

ఐశ ర మదమ స హ మన ৷৷5.64.17৷৷

నరరభ bull among vanaras, జ O king, ప ః స who is lord, కః who, ఏవ in that way, వ
said so, సర ః all others, ఐశ ర మదమతః arrogant on account of prosperity, అహ I, ఇ thus, మన
think .

"O king! O bull among monkeys! we think you are an exception to those to whom prosperity brings
arrogance.
తవ దం సదృశం క ం న స కస .

సన త భ ష భ గ ৷৷5.64.18৷৷

ఇదం క these words, తవ చ you alone would have said, సదృశ your humility, అన స in
others, కస you only, న not, తవ your, సన ః humble, భ ష భ గ fit for a bright
future, ఆ speaks of.

"You alone could speak such words. Your humility speaks of your fitness for a bright future.
స వయమ స త గ ం కృత ః.

సయతహ ం వః ప రవ యః৷৷5.64.19৷৷

ః come here, వయ us, స all of us, హ vanara heroes, ప ః lord, అవ యః one

who is immortal, సః వః that Sugriva, య త to him, త త there, గ to go, కృత ః ready at any
moment.

త హ ర
ౖ వ శక ం ప త ద .

క ద ంహ ష మః సత దం ৷৷5.64.20৷৷

హ ష best of the vanaras, Angada, త your, అ :ౖ order, హ ః vanaras, ప on

foot, పద one step, క not even, గ to go, న శక not possible, సత it is true, ఇద this,
to you, మః appealed.

"O Angada! the best of vanaras! without your command none will find it possible to put forward even a
single step."
ఏవం వద ం మఙదః ప చ హ.

those vanaras, ఏవ that way, వద spoken, అఙదః Angada, ఢ very good, గ మ let
us go, ప చ హ replied, ఇ thus, ఉ having spoken, మ బ ః powerful vanaras, ఖ to the
sky, ఉ ః rose up.

Thus addressed by all the vanaras, Angada said 'Well, let us go'. Then the powerful vanaras rose up the sky.
ఉత తనమ స హ థ ః.

కృ శం శం య ఇ చ ః৷৷5.64.22৷৷

స all, హ థ ః vanara troops, య ః stones shattered by machines, అచ ః mountain,

ఇవ like, ఆ శ sky, శ as if there is no sky, కృ did, ఉత తన rising up, అ ః
sprang up.

All the vanara troops sprang up into the air as though there was no sky, like stones shattered by machines
from the mountains rise up.
మ రం సహ త త గవనః పవఙ ః.

నద మ దం ఘ య ৷৷5.64.23৷৷

గవనః swift, పవఙ ః those monkeys, మ ద roared aloud, నదనః noise, ః driven
by the Wind, ఘ ః య like heavy clouds, సహ at once, అమ ర to the sky, ఉత త went up.

The swift monkeys roared aloud as though they went up the sky like thundering clouds driven by the wind.
అఙ హ న న పః.

ఉ చ పహతం మం కమల చన ৷৷5.64.24৷৷

అఙ Angada, అన before he came, న పః lord of the vanaras, వః Sugriva,

పహత stricken with grief, కమల చన lotus eyed, మ Rama, ఉ చ said.

Seeing the grief-stricken, lotus-eyed Rama, the lord of the vanaras Sugriva said this before the arrival of
Angada:
స శ భ దం దృ న సంశయః.

గ హ శక ం ర సమ నః৷৷5.64.25৷৷

స శ trust me, to you, భ ద auspicious, queen, దృ have seen, సంశయః doubt, న not,
నః us, సమ time, అ exceeded, ః they, ఇహ here, ఆగ to come, న శక not possible.

"Trust me, Rama. Be blessed. The vanaras have seen the divine lady. There is no doubt. It is not possible for
them to come here after exceeding the time limit (in their search for Sita).
న మత శ గ త ృ .

వ మ ః పవ ం పవ ఙదః৷৷5.64.26৷৷

వ జః heir apparent, మ ః strong-armed one, పవ leaping, పవరః endowed with good

virtues, అఙదః Angada, కృ mission, has failed, మత శ near me, గ will not
come.

"My heir apparent, the strong-armed Angada, and the best of the monkeys is endowed
with virtues. He would not come near me if his mission had failed.
యద ప కృతకృ దృశ ప కమః.

భ త నవద న త నసః৷৷5.64.27৷৷

అకృతకృ in case they have not accomplished, ఉప కమః return, ఈదృశః this way, యద
acted that way, సః he, నవదనః pathetic face, న త నసః perplexed and unsteady in
mind, భ would be.

"In case the vanaras have returned without accomplishing the task, Angada would have assumed a pathetic
face, perplexed and unsteady in mind.
తృ మహం త ర ర ర త .

న మ వనం హ దహృషః పవ శ రః৷৷5.64.28৷৷

స ప మస శ వత.

పవ శ రః lord of monkeys, అహృషః not been happy, తృ మహ father and grandfather's time,
ర ః ancestors, అ ర త protected, మ వన my Madhuvanam, న హ not destroy,
స ప ః Kausalya's son, వత one who pracitces good traditions, మ Rama, స శ
trust me.

"If Angada, lord of the vanaras had not been happy, he would not have destroyed the Madhuvanam of my
father's and my grandfather's time. O Rama, follower of righteous practices, Kausalya has an excellent son in
you. Trust me.
దృ నస న న హ మ ৷৷5.64.29৷৷

న హ న ః కర ధ స హ మతః.

కర this task, ధ స the reason for accomplishing, Sita, దృ saw, స హః doubt, న

not, అ న not others, న not, హ మ Hanuman.

"Hanuman is the one who has accomplished this task. Who else can? No doubt, he has seen Sita.
హ మ శ మ శ మ సతమః৷৷5.64.30৷৷

వ వ యశ ర ంచ జ ఇవ వ .

మ సతమ best one among the wise, హ మ Hanuman, Sun, జః ఇవ like the luminosity,
శ capacity to succeed, మ శ intelligence, వ వ యశ effort, ర ం చ and even courage,
వ steadfast.

"O Rama, the best among the wise! just like the luminosity that abides in the Sun, capacity to succeed,
energy, intelligence, even courage and steadfastness reside in Hanuman.
మ న త దఙదశ బ శ రః.

హ ం ప న తస గ రన ৷৷5.64.31৷৷

య త there, మ Jambavan, leader, remains, మ బలః commander of army అఙదశ

and Angada, హ ంశ and Hanuman, అ the guiding force, తస that, గ ః end result, అన

"Where Jambavan is the leader, Angada the commander of the army and Hanuman the guiding force, the end
result will not be otherwise.
స కస మ త త కమః৷৷5.64.32৷৷

తతః ల శ బం సన మమ .

హ మత ర దృ ం ర ం న క ৷৷5.64.33৷৷

ప ం ం కథయ వ.

అ త కమః extremely valiant, స మ at this time, స కః anxious, ః do not, తతః

at that time, హ మత ర దృ in the pride of Hanuman's success, ర roaring,
successfully completed the work, కథయ వ talking, in Kishkinda, ఉప have
reached, న క forest-dwellers, vanaras, అమ in the sky, ఆసన have arrived, ల శబ
chatterings, వ was heard.

"You are extremely valiant and it is unbecoming of you to be anxious at this time Rama. Just then chatterings
of the monkeys were heard from the sky as they roared in pride talking of Hanuman's achievement. Having
successfully completed the errand, they have arrived at Kishkinda.
తత దం తం క ం క సతమః৷৷5.64.34৷৷

ఆయ త ల భవదృష నసః.

తతః then, సః క సతమః that great monkey, Sugriva, క of the monkeys, తం ద that roar,
having heard, ఆయ త లః lifting and shaking the long tail, హృష నసః extremely
happy, అభవ remained.

The great Sugriva heard the roar of the monkeys and was extremely happy. He kept raising and shaking his
long tail in joy.
ఆజ హర మదర న ం ణః৷৷5.64.35৷৷

అఙదం రతః కృ హ మ నం చ నర .

హరయః those joyful monkeys, క ః monkeys, అఙద Angada, నర vanaras, హ మన

Hanuman, రతః in front, కృ having, మదర న ం ణః eager to have a look at Rama, ఆజ ః
reached.

The joyful monkeys with Angada and Hanuman leading them descended with eagerness to have a close look
at Rama.
ఙద ప ః పహృ శ ః৷৷5.64.36৷৷

ర జస స ఘవస చ.

అఙద ప ః Angada, the chief of the army of monkeys, ః the heroes, పహృ శ very joyfully,

Angada the chief along with the heroic monkeys very joyfully and exuberantly descended close to Sugriva,

య మ ం ం ఘ యన దయ .

తతః then, మ ః strong-armed, హ Hanuman, ర with head bowed down, పణమ

offered salutations, divine lady, య with her constant devotion, అ sound in body,
ఘ య to Rama, న దయ reported.

Then the strong-armed Hanuman with his head bowed down offered salutations and reported, 'Divine lady
Sita with her constant devotion to Sri Rama is sound in body'.
దృ హ మద ద దమృ పమ ৷৷5.64.38৷৷

ఆకర వచనం హర ప సల ణః.

సల ణః Lakshmana, మః Rama, హ మద ద only Hanuman, అమృ పమ sweet at nectar,

దృ ఇ Sita was seen, these, వచన words, ఆకర hearing, హర delighted, ఆప remained.

On hearing the nectar-like words from Hanuman that Sita was found, Rama and Lakshmana were delighted.
రం తతస వం పవ త ৷৷5.64.39৷৷

ల ణః తం బ ద త.

తతః then, ల ణః Lakshmana, త పవ త that son of the Wind-god, ర

surely, త very affectionately, వ and Sugriva, బ respectfully, అ త glanced.

Sugriva and Lakshmana glanced at Hanuman respectfully with affection thinking surely Hanuman alone has
succeeded.
చ రమ థ ఘవః పర ర ৷৷5.64.40৷৷

బ న మహ హ మనమ త.

పర ర slayer of heroic enemies, ఘవః Rama, రమ ణః extremely delighted, ఉ తః became,

మహ great, బ న with unbounded affection, హ మన at Hanuman, అ త glanced.

Rama, the slayer of heroic enemies was extremely delighted and glanced at Hanuman with unbounded
affection.

having heard, వ కసః forest dwellers, పహృషమనః glad at heart, ఇద these, ఊ ః said.

On hearing Angada's valuable words said in that way, the vanaras repled:
ఏవం వ జ ప స నరరభ.

ఐశ ర మదమ స హ మన ৷৷5.64.17৷৷

నరరభ bull among vanaras, జ O king, ప ః స who is lord, కః who, ఏవ in that way, వ
said so, సర ః all others, ఐశ ర మదమతః arrogant on account of prosperity, అహ I, ఇ thus, మన
think .

"O king! O bull among monkeys! we think you are an exception to those to whom prosperity brings
arrogance.
తవ దం సదృశం క ం న స కస .

సన త భ ష భ గ ৷৷5.64.18৷৷

ఇదం క these words, తవ చ you alone would have said, సదృశ your humility, అన స in
others, కస you only, న not, తవ your, సన ః humble, భ ష భ గ fit for a bright
future, ఆ speaks of.

"You alone could speak such words. Your humility speaks of your fitness for a bright future.
స వయమ స త గ ం కృత ః.

సయతహ ం వః ప రవ యః৷৷5.64.19৷৷

ః come here, వయ us, స all of us, హ vanara heroes, ప ః lord, అవ యః one

who is immortal, సః వః that Sugriva, య త to him, త త there, గ to go, కృత ః ready at any
moment.

త హ ర
ౖ వ శక ం ప త ద .

క ద ంహ ష మః సత దం ৷৷5.64.20৷৷

హ ష best of the vanaras, Angada, త your, అ :ౖ order, హ ః vanaras, ప on

foot, పద one step, క not even, గ to go, న శక not possible, సత it is true, ఇద this,
to you, మః appealed.

"O Angada! the best of vanaras! without your command none will find it possible to put forward even a
single step."
ఏవం వద ం మఙదః ప చ హ.

ఢం గ మఇ ఖ ర బ ః৷৷5.64.21৷৷

those vanaras, ఏవ that way, వద spoken, అఙదః Angada, ఢ very good, గ మ let
us go, ప చ హ replied, ఇ thus, ఉ having spoken, మ బ ః powerful vanaras, ఖ to the
sky, ఉ ః rose up.

Thus addressed by all the vanaras, Angada said 'Well, let us go'. Then the powerful vanaras rose up the sky.
ఉత తనమ స హ థ ః.

కృ శం శం య ఇ చ ః৷৷5.64.22৷৷

స all, హ థ ః vanara troops, య ః stones shattered by machines, అచ ః mountain,

ఇవ like, ఆ శ sky, శ as if there is no sky, కృ did, ఉత తన rising up, అ ః
sprang up.

All the vanara troops sprang up into the air as though there was no sky, like stones shattered by machines
from the mountains rise up.
మ రం సహ త త గవనః పవఙ ః.

నద మ దం ఘ య ৷৷5.64.23৷৷

గవనః swift, పవఙ ః those monkeys, మ ద roared aloud, నదనః noise, ః driven
by the Wind, ఘ ః య like heavy clouds, సహ at once, అమ ర to the sky, ఉత త went up.

The swift monkeys roared aloud as though they went up the sky like thundering clouds driven by the wind.
అఙ హ న న పః.

ఉ చ పహతం మం కమల చన ৷৷5.64.24৷৷

అఙ Angada, అన before he came, న పః lord of the vanaras, వః Sugriva,

పహత stricken with grief, కమల చన lotus eyed, మ Rama, ఉ చ said.

Seeing the grief-stricken, lotus-eyed Rama, the lord of the vanaras Sugriva said this before the arrival of
Angada:
స శ భ దం దృ న సంశయః.

గ హ శక ం ర సమ నః৷৷5.64.25৷৷

స శ trust me, to you, భ ద auspicious, queen, దృ have seen, సంశయః doubt, న not,
నః us, సమ time, అ exceeded, ః they, ఇహ here, ఆగ to come, న శక not possible.

"Trust me, Rama. Be blessed. The vanaras have seen the divine lady. There is no doubt. It is not possible for
them to come here after exceeding the time limit (in their search for Sita).
న మత శ గ త ృ .

వ మ ః పవ ం పవ ఙదః৷৷5.64.26৷৷

వ జః heir apparent, మ ః strong-armed one, పవ leaping, పవరః endowed with good

virtues, అఙదః Angada, కృ mission, has failed, మత శ near me, గ will not
come.

"My heir apparent, the strong-armed Angada, and the best of the monkeys is endowed
with virtues. He would not come near me if his mission had failed.
యద ప కృతకృ దృశ ప కమః.

భ త నవద న త నసః৷৷5.64.27৷৷

అకృతకృ in case they have not accomplished, ఉప కమః return, ఈదృశః this way, యద
acted that way, సః he, నవదనః pathetic face, న త నసః perplexed and unsteady in

mind, భ would be.

"In case the vanaras have returned without accomplishing the task, Angada would have assumed a pathetic
face, perplexed and unsteady in mind.
తృ మహం త ర ర ర త .

న మ వనం హ దహృషః పవ శ రః৷৷5.64.28৷৷

స ప మస శ వత.

పవ శ రః lord of monkeys, అహృషః not been happy, తృ మహ father and grandfather's time,
ర ః ancestors, అ ర త protected, మ వన my Madhuvanam, న హ not destroy,
స ప ః Kausalya's son, వత one who pracitces good traditions, మ Rama, స శ
trust me.

"If Angada, lord of the vanaras had not been happy, he would not have destroyed the Madhuvanam of my
father's and my grandfather's time. O Rama, follower of righteous practices, Kausalya has an excellent son in
you. Trust me.
దృ నస న న హ మ ৷৷5.64.29৷৷

న హ న ః కర ధ స హ మతః.

కర this task, ధ స the reason for accomplishing, Sita, దృ saw, స హః doubt, న

not, అ న not others, న not, హ మ Hanuman.

"Hanuman is the one who has accomplished this task. Who else can? No doubt, he has seen Sita.
హ మ శ మ శ మ సతమః৷৷5.64.30৷৷

వ వ యశ ర ంచ జ ఇవ వ .

మ సతమ best one among the wise, హ మ Hanuman, Sun, జః ఇవ like the luminosity,
శ capacity to succeed, మ శ intelligence, వ వ యశ effort, ర ం చ and even courage,
వ steadfast.

"O Rama, the best among the wise! just like the luminosity that abides in the Sun, capacity to succeed,
energy, intelligence, even courage and steadfastness reside in Hanuman.
మ న త దఙదశ బ శ రః.

హ ం ప న తస గ రన ৷৷5.64.31৷৷

య త there, మ Jambavan, leader, remains, మ బలః commander of army అఙదశ

and Angada, హ ంశ and Hanuman, అ the guiding force, తస that, గ ః end result, అన
otherwise, న not be.

"Where Jambavan is the leader, Angada the commander of the army and Hanuman the guiding force, the end
result will not be otherwise.
స కస మ త త కమః৷৷5.64.32৷৷

తతః ల శ బం సన మమ .

హ మత ర దృ ం ర ం న క ৷৷5.64.33৷৷

ప ం ం కథయ వ.

అ త కమః extremely valiant, స మ at this time, స కః anxious, ః do not, తతః

at that time, హ మత ర దృ in the pride of Hanuman's success, ర roaring,
successfully completed the work, కథయ వ talking, in Kishkinda, ఉప have
reached, న క forest-dwellers, vanaras, అమ in the sky, ఆసన have arrived, ల శబ
chatterings, వ was heard.

"You are extremely valiant and it is unbecoming of you to be anxious at this time Rama. Just then chatterings
of the monkeys were heard from the sky as they roared in pride talking of Hanuman's achievement. Having
successfully completed the errand, they have arrived at Kishkinda.
తత దం తం క ం క సతమః৷৷5.64.34৷৷

ఆయ త ల భవదృష నసః.

తతః then, సః క సతమః that great monkey, Sugriva, క of the monkeys, తం ద that roar,
having heard, ఆయ త లః lifting and shaking the long tail, హృష నసః extremely
happy, అభవ remained.

The great Sugriva heard the roar of the monkeys and was extremely happy. He kept raising and shaking his
long tail in joy.
ఆజ హర మదర న ం ణః৷৷5.64.35৷৷

అఙదం రతః కృ హ మ నం చ నర .

హరయః those joyful monkeys, క ః monkeys, అఙద Angada, నర vanaras, హ మన

Hanuman, రతః in front, కృ having, మదర న ం ణః eager to have a look at Rama, ఆజ ః
reached.

The joyful monkeys with Angada and Hanuman leading them descended with eagerness to have a close look
at Rama.
ఙద ప ః పహృ శ ః৷৷5.64.36৷৷

ర జస స ఘవస చ.

అఙద ప ః Angada, the chief of the army of monkeys, ః the heroes, పహృ శ very joyfully,
exuberant, అ ః descended, హ జస to the king of monkeys, ఘవస చ and Rama,
స near, ః landed.

Angada the chief along with the heroic monkeys very joyfully and exuberantly descended close to Sugriva,
the king of monkeys and Rama.
హ ంశ మ ః పణమ ర తతః৷৷5.64.37৷৷

య మ ం ం ఘ యన దయ .

తతః then, మ ః strong-armed, హ Hanuman, ర with head bowed down, పణమ

offered salutations, divine lady, య with her constant devotion, అ sound in body,
ఘ య to Rama, న దయ reported.

Then the strong-armed Hanuman with his head bowed down offered salutations and reported, 'Divine lady
Sita with her constant devotion to Sri Rama is sound in body'.
దృ హ మద ద దమృ పమ ৷৷5.64.38৷৷

ఆకర వచనం హర ప సల ణః.

సల ణః Lakshmana, మః Rama, హ మద ద only Hanuman, అమృ పమ sweet at nectar,

దృ ఇ Sita was seen, these, వచన words, ఆకర hearing, హర delighted, ఆప remained.

On hearing the nectar-like words from Hanuman that Sita was found, Rama and Lakshmana were delighted.
రం తతస వం పవ త ৷৷5.64.39৷৷

ల ణః తం బ ద త.

తతః then, ల ణః Lakshmana, త పవ త that son of the Wind-god, ర

surely, త very affectionately, వ and Sugriva, బ respectfully, అ త glanced.

Sugriva and Lakshmana glanced at Hanuman respectfully with affection thinking surely Hanuman alone has
succeeded.
చ రమ థ ఘవః పర ర ৷৷5.64.40৷৷

బ న మహ హ మనమ త.

పర ర slayer of heroic enemies, ఘవః Rama, రమ ణః extremely delighted, ఉ తః became,

మహ great, బ న with unbounded affection, హ మన at Hanuman, అ త glanced.

Rama, the slayer of heroic enemies was extremely delighted and glanced at Hanuman with unbounded
affection.
ఇ మ య యఆ నర చ ఃష తమస రః৷৷
Thus ends the sixtyfourth sarga of Sundarakanda of the holy Ramayana, the first epic composed by sage
Valmiki.
