IDEA StatiCa tutorial – Footing with diagonal (EN)

Welcome to IDEA StatiCa tutorial. This tutorial shows how to use software IDEA StatiCa to model, design and check a
structural steel joint.

1 New project
Let’s launch IDEA StatiCa and select application Connection. We create a new project by selecting a starting template
closest to the desired design, filling the name and choose design code and default material properties – S 235.

2 Geometry
One beam and base plate with anchors were automatically added.

3 Load effects
One load effect was automatically added. We input the values of internal forces into the chart. More load cases can be
added.

4 Design
Manufacturing operation Base plate was added by the wizard. We just need to update some of its properties.

We can go on and add next Manufacturing operation. Now, we select the End Plate.

We can proceed and change the properties of the operation EP1.

Let´s cut the gusset plate corner of connecting plate CPL1. For this operation, we need to go into Editor, Gusset and add a
Chamfer with 70 mm size at corner number 2.

We finish our design by input of a Stiffener.

5 Check
We start the analysis based on CBFEM by clicking Calculate in the ribbon. Analysis model is automatically generated,
calculation is performed and we can see the Overall check displayed together with basic values of check results.

We go to the display tab Check and there we activate Stress in concrete and Mesh from the ribbon to get a full picture of
what is happening in the joint. We open the tab Concrete block to see the results for this item.

6 Report
At last we go to the tab Report. IDEA StatiCa offers fully customizable report to print out or save in editable format.

We have designed, optimized and code-checked a joint according to Eurocode.
