OIL&GAS FIELD

ALESSIO PIERRO

techfem.it
four case studies relative
to Oil & Gas field.
In the results are
highlighted some
potentiality of Code_Aster
for industrial application
and an initial validation of
«tuyau» element in
comparison with
commercial stress analysis
software.

These slides be a first step

for the application of
Code_Aster for transport
pipeline analysis.
Case Study 1

Straight Pipe Stress

Analysis

In this case study, the

validation of «tuyau»
element for a straight pipe
under pressure,
temperature and
concentrated force is
presented. The validation
compares Code_Aster
results with commercial
software Caesar II.
Case Study 1

Straight Pipe Stress

Analysis

Input Data:
Design Pressure:
75 barg;
Ambient Temperature:
15 °C,
Operating Temperature:
65 °C;
Concentrated Force in the
middle:
-1 kN vertical;
Pipe OD: 10in, Pipe WT:
15.9 mm.
Case Study 1
Case Study 2

Beam Structural
Simulation

In this case study, the

verification of a structure
for hoses transportation
has been carried out.

In detail the lifting phase

has been simulated.
Case Study 2

Beam Structural
Simulation

Input Data:
Beam Section:
square 60x60x3 mm;
Hoses Total Load:
15 kN;
Material:
Steel S235;
Maximum Allowable
Deflection:
15 mm.
Case Study 2
Case Study 3

3D Handler
for Structure Lifting

In this case study, the

verification of a handler for
offshore structure lifting is
carried out.

Validation through
Abaqus results shown the
potentiality of Code_Aster.
Case Study 3

3D Handler
for Structure Lifting

Input Data:
Structure Weight
(including DAF):
278 kN;
Handler Dimensions:
OD 4in x 11.13 mm.
Case Study 3
Case Study 4

Sealine on
Seabed Outcrop

In this case study, the

analysis of offshore
pipeline deformation on
seabed outcrop is carried
out.

The sealine is modelled

with 1-D element «tuyau»,
while the soil has been
modelled like a rigid
shape with 2-D element
«coque».
Case Study 4

Sealine on
Seabed Outcrop

The contact is without

friction, the edge of soil
surface are totally
restrained.

The simulation is cleraly

static non linear. At the
moment only gravitational
effect are considered, no
pressure or temperature
are taken into account.
Case Study 4

Deformed Shape:
Conclusions and
future steps

Case studies presented

highlight an innovative
industrial application of
Code_Aster software to
Oil&Gas problems, in
terms of both structural
simulation and pipe stress
analysis.
Conclusions and
future steps

Future steps will propose

the use of Code_Aster for
on-bottom roughness
analysis, crossing design
and in-service buckling,
typical problems of
offshore pipeline,
introducing also pipe-soil
interaction in terms of
friction and settlement.
