DESCRIBTION AND NOTES

- Good quality granular piling platform material type 6F2 is required.
- Piling platform material to be well graded, free draining and is to consist a maximum of 10% fine
- Piling platform material to be placed and compacted in accordance with table 6/4 of MCDHW series 600 in maximum
150mm layers of equal thickness, to an overall thickness as shown in the design calculation.
- In-situ testing (e.g. by analysing data from plate loading test to ultimate failure or other methods) is recommended
suitable in order to confirm as field internal peak angle of friction within the platform 45 degrees is achieved
material in accordance with the design.
- Platform is to be maintained continuously and repaired and rerolled regularity by competent contractor. At no time
should the platform thickness at any one location be allowed to be more than 50mm less that the design value
(note; better tolerance may be required for other purposes). Regular (e.g. weekly) platform level surveys should be
conducted, and records kept, it is recommended not to exceed a 5m x 5m grid when surveying.
- Plate load tested (typically 1 per 150m²) are required at each platform location to ensure compaction and performance
of working platform in accordance with this design. The plate diameter shall be a minimum 600mm unless otherwise \specified.
The permitted settlement at target pressure shall be 25mm and the test shall be taken to a target pressure equivalent
to 150% of the maximum (in increments) and ideally to failure.
- If the target pressure cannot be achieved the test shall be stopped when the penetration reaches 15% of the plate diameter.
The unloading curve shall be recorder for all tests.
