2007; and Los Angeles, which began
services on 26th October 2008.
The additional U.S. services come during a
busy summer for the airline. Aside from the
Boeing 777 order, FIFA World Cup

launches, Emirates further expanded its
fleet with an order for 32 additional A380s
at the Berlin Air Show in June. This order,
valued at US$11.5 billion, adds to the 58
A380 aircraft previously ordered, 11 of
which are currently in service.
Emirates currently flies nonstop to four
U.S. cities: New York, Houston, Los
Angeles and San Francisco. The airline
will reinstate its flagship A380 aircraft on
one of its double-daily JFK services from
31st October.

the competition. The use of colour,
graphic design and creativity in the
submissions was truly impressive,
and so many could have been

The winning artwork on the new
cards will replace designs from
famous artists such as Damien
Hirst. The winners will receive a
commission of US$ 5,000, enjoy
global exposure and recognition for
their work and will be flown to
Dubai, where their winning design
artwork (and other art in their
portfolios) will be displayed at the
Art Dubai fair in March 2011. Art
Dubai is the leading contemporary
art fair in the Middle East, North
Africa and South Asia, attended by
art critics, collectors and gallery
owners from around the world.

used on the Skywards membership
cards, as well as all supporting

Animex, which has established a division in Hollywood,
California, isalso collaborating with Mexican-American
actor and director Edward James Olmos in his first
animated Mexican feature entitled ―Il Americano‖ - a
hilarious tale about a flock of birds migrating from
Mexico to the United States.
On the other hand, Cutting Edge is composed of local
animators and producers behind ―DayoSa Mundo Ng
Elementalia‖, the Philippines‘ first full-length 2D digital
animated film, which premiered at the annual Metro
Manila Film Festival two years ago. Multi-awarded film
composer and musical arranger Jessie Lasaten sits as
the company‘s president and chief executive officer.
―Animex and Cutting Edge certainly share common

For the cultural exchange program, we are selecting the
best candidates from both our teams. We could have
animators from Mexico and the Philippines switch

started co-producing their first 3D animated short film

A new dawn has come to the City of Malolos. The
very rich historical and cultural heritage has come to
the fore as one of the development agenda of the
City.
Having stated the city‘s cultural and tourism vision:
―Malolos... the cradle of democracy; the sanctuary
of Excellent Artists; the paradise of Golden
Heritage; the heart of Filipino Culture....The
Renaissance City of the Philippines!‖, the City
Mayor‘s Office- City Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth &

a ten (10)-year program to realize the rebirth of the
Golden Era of Malolos. Dubbed as ―The
Renaissance City of Malolos‖, we commit to pursue
the revival and full- flowering of the city‘s historical
and cultural heritage, thus seeing all these as an
advantage for economic and tourism development of
the city.
Cradle of Democracy. Historically, Malolos is the
site of the first democratic constitution in Asia and
Africa. It boasts of having the Barasoain Church as
the venue of the 1898 Malolos Congress which gave
birth to the first Philippine Republic in 1899 and
Basilica Minore Church (formerly Malolos Cathedral)
as the ‗official residence‘ of the first President Emilio
Aguinaldo. Also, the cluster of old houses in the
Poblacion served as revolutionary offices during the
Republic. Moreover, the city was home to many
heroic sons and daughters who fought during the
1896 Philippine Revolution in the likes of Gen.
Isidoro Torres, Mariano Crisostomo, and Ramon

A Paradise of Golden Heritage. The city takes
pride on the abundance of its century- old houses
that display unique architectural structures and
designs. Religious traditions like Senaculo,
Salubong, Desposorio and Panunuluyan are still
being practiced in major churches and in the
barangays. Traditional arts like Inukit (wood carves),
Borlas de Pastillas (paper-cuts), Palaspas and Puni
(decorative crafts) has been revived by Puni de
Malolos, a group who specializes on the
preservation of Malolos artistic heritage. Old cuisine
like Lechon de Leche, Estofadong Pabo,
Hamonadong Malolos, Pochero, Adobo and other
historical dishes are being revived and promoted by
culinary guru Tita Mila Enriquez’ protégées.
Pastries and delicacies like Enseimada de Malolos,
Empanada de Kaliskis, Pilipit and Pastillas de
Leche are still the favorites in local bakeshops and
food stores. The traditional Sarswela musicale is
being revived by BKFI who envisions Malolos City
as the Sarswela capital of the country.
Certainly, in all these cultural conditions, anybody
who pays a visit at the historic Malolos will not only
experience history but renewal… not only learning
but appreciation… not only pleasure but
bewilderment…. It is the rebirth of our heart and
spirit as Filipino.

THE PROVINCE OF ORIENTAL MINDORO
In the early 17th century,
the island of Mindoro was
separated from bonbon
(now Batangas) and
organized into a was grouped together with

of Mindoro dates back to
pre-Spanish times. Due to
its favorable geographic
location, it served as an
important trading center of
Chinese goods. As early
as 872 A.D., Mindoro
traded with Canton
because of their proximity
to each other. A Chinese
chronicle of 1225 A.D.
gave the first documented
evidence concerning the
island of Mindoro.
Following the existing sea
routes during the ancient
time, the ships sailed to
Mindoro's north and west
coasts, which were then
the densely populated
urban centers. For local
products like beeswax,
pearl, sandalwood and
tortoise shells, the
Chinese traders bartered
porcelain, silk and tea.
In the 14th century, the
Madjapahit Empire
controlled a domain
extending from Borneo to

Antique passed through
several historic periods namely:
Pre-Spanish Period, Spanish
Occupation, Philippine

History reveals that in the early
time, ten datus from Borneo with

Miag-ao,

Antique immediately after they
established themselves in Oton,
Iloilo. The Antiquenos resisted
the invasion but in the end
accepted Spanish rule,
Christianity, the Spanish
Colonial System and at the
same time absorbed the social,
cultural and educational system
of the Spaniards. Antique then
was created into a politico-
military province in 1780 with the
town of Hamtik as its first
capital. In 1796, Antique, then
known as Provincia de Bugason
was given an independent
status as a province. Later, the
provincial government was
established in Bugasong but

passed by the United States
Congress which provided for a
ten-year transition period under
the Commonwealth of the
Philippines. Hence, a
constitutional convention was
called to draft the constitution of
the
Philippines. Antiquenos elected
the late Ramon Maza and the
late Angel Salazar Sr. as their

authority to that of Parliament was

critical time in the constitutional history of
Canada, and the ability of the two

many years. Each side produced great
public men. Prominent were Robert
Baldwin from Canada West and Louis
Hippolyte Lafontaine from Canada East
(see Baldwin, Robert). Both men had
taken part in the agitation preceding the
rebellions of 1837, but they had stood
apart from the extreme measures that led
to armed insurrection. Both had grasped
the meaning of responsible government.

rebellion of 1837 in Lower Canada. It was
violently opposed by many of the Tories,
who felt that tax money was being turned
over to former rebels.
There was some question as to whether
or not Elgin would sign the bill as his
ministers advised him to do. When Elgin
decided that he must sign into law
whatever bill was recommended to him
by his Cabinet, he was made the object
of a torrent of abuse from the Tories.
Elgin's carriage was attacked, and his
house was stoned. Furthermore, rioting
broke out, and the Parliament Buildings
in Montreal were razed by fire. Out of the
ashes of the government buildings,
however, was born true colonial self-
government that embodied the principle
of responsible cabinet rule.
