Scenario: You have been hired as the IT intern for a startup management consulting company.
The company needs to automate their office. The company currently has five employees. These
employees are: one secretary, three consultants, and the owner of the company. Software
required for the company includes Microsoft Office Professional, Peachtree Accounting
Software, Microsoft Project, and others One of the consultants will require training in MS
Project, and another in Peachtree. You are tasked to find the best computers for the lowest cost
that will meet the requirements for the five employees that use this office. Assume you will
select the same computer for all five employees. Don't forget the software in the cost; also, the
printer(s), scanner(s), and other peripheral components that may be required. You can network
the computers if you so desire. Assume you will have DSL. Compute individual cost for each
system, and the cost for the entire office, and the total cost of ownership (TCO) for all systems in
this company. The owner of the company wants three separate prospects to choose from. He has
suggested you look at Dell, HP, and a local company in town for the systems. He has requested
you use Excel to do your comparisons.

Requirements for software:


1. Microsoft Office Professional
 For PC, you will need a 1GHz processor of any make; For Mac, Intel processor is
recommended.
 PC would require 2GB RAM while Mac will require 4GB
 Hard disk space should be 3GB for PC while Mac would require 6GB; Again, the
format of HDD in Mac should be Extended Mac OS or HFC Plus
 Operating system should be the latest as far as possible

 Min Operating System. Microsoft Windows (32 bit), Microsoft Windows (64 bit)
 Processor Speed. 1.6 Hz.
 Min RAM Size. 2 GB, 4 GB.
 Min Hard Drive Space. 4 GB.
3. Peachtree Accounting
 Processor operating frequency:
o Pro and Premium Edition: 1.0 GHz or higher (2.0 GHz recommended)
o Quantum and Accountant Edition: 2.0 GHz or higher (Multiple-core
processor operating at 2.33 GHz recommended)
 4 GB RAM. Recommended 6 GB RAM
 4 GB hard disk space (additional 1 GB needed for installation)

Conclusion:
According to comparison of prices on excel we concluded that laptops with network printers,
scanner and DSL cost the least to the company and the best price for laptops is using Lenovo
laptops on whatprice platform.
