The financing of major, Mini major and small scale film

Major film – Inception

Inception has the budget -$160,000,000

They would have needed a large budget for this genre film as it involves a lot of explosions and
special effects meaning that they will have to pay councils to shut off road and pay for explosions.
This helps enhance the genre of action and helps bring suspense and danger to it. This will therefore
help create more revenue helping them make all the money back and more. As the film is also a
psychological genre it is important to make the special effects as realistic as possible; to create this
surrealism effect a large portion of the budget would have been spent.

They would have spent their budget in a variety of ways for example paying for actors and crew,
then when filming they would have to pay for location, equipment and added extras such as visual
effects and real explosions. The Paris scene is a key example of the major production explosions and
the effect it has on a film, It helps show the layers of the dreams get broken down and add
surrealism to the film by showing the perfect explosions in which you would expect in a dream. The
fact the production spent so much on these factors make the film more interesting this helps lead to
a higher revenue once it’s been realised a more people will talk about it helping it get more publicity.

suitable for the scene that will be filmed there. Then the scout will have to get permission for the
crew to film at the location and have it closed off from public which can cost a lot. The use of
location change helps us as the audience see a new layer of the dream the diverse land scapes help
do this effectively.

They use a wide range of locations through the film to create the illusion that you are in the right

MINI MAJOR – Superbad

Superbad has the budget - $20,000,000

This film had a reasonably big budget this includes well-known actors this will have cost a reasonable
amount to have in the film but as they weren’t big at the time they came cheaper. As a comedy film
the budget doesn’t need to be as good as its more about the script and actors that make it funny.
The location either being at schools or houses would have been expenisve to close off as they have
dutys to serve to the public. As the film has no big high actions scenes budget will have mostly been

to find a perfect location for each scene. The locations are used to make the film seem as realistic as
possible by creating a stereotypical town with everything in such as shops schools etc. In order to do
so they create there own town out of different towns through America. This would also make costs
lower as if it was all in one town it would cost more to shut off the town to film. The location moving
around helps create a sense of neighbourhood as you have shops, schools and friends near by letting
the audience feel familiar with surroundings.

have watched it as in past films like 21 jumpstreet its quite obvious he’s not young.

MINI – Boyz n the hood

Boyz n the hood budget was - $6,500,000

This film was a very low budget film this helped the film be portrayed as the way they lived with little
money. The fact this film was filmed in 1991 it was quite high production cost for the time but this
showed with the end result and the film being still talk about today with the unique storyline and the
great acting for such a low budget film.

The main load of the budget would’ve been spent on filming and editing as the a tors wouldn’t have
been payed a lot as they just wanted to get a point acroos about how the boyz n the hood live an
why all the violence starts. Makeup artist would’ve been a key part of the budget as to show shot
wounds and scars from previous beefs are cruital to the films story line. The film was shot in a small
radious so traveling didn’t cost much as they didn’t need to pay for everything.

Location played a key location in this film as its used to show a community and this film does this by
trying to keep it in one community . This would’ve been found by a location scout in finding a run
down community that can show people being together and also finding a location of the oppression.
The location in this film played a massive role of creating a sense of beimg in the hood as they used
more run down areas to create a sense of being deprived to show the struggle the people go
through.

There are some big named actors in the films but all are from the same background which bring
significant to the film. The biggest actor being Ice Cube who is well know for films such as Ride along,
Friday and most famously Striaght outta Compton. His past films have all be relevant to this as they
are mostly about being in the hood in general .

Equipment used in boyz n the hood was the Arriflex Camera and Lenses as this is and old film there
wasn’t many cameras to choose from that were on the level of this one for the time. This would’ve
shot every seen and then been edited example of this is the slow motion show of Ricky getting shot.
This camera wouldn’t have been able to shoot in slow-motion show this would’ve been done in the
editing part
