Final evaluation

Our idea was to follow the storyline of a boy being bullied within school and it follows the
storyline of the process of bullying then, it shows the boy being bullied finding out
something about the bullies that the bullies doesn't want to be exposed to his school mates.
This then leads to the boy being exposed to being kidnapped so he cannot stop the boy who
was being bullied from exposing him.
The genre we chose to create was a thriller film, we chose this because the target audience
for a thriller film is very large and it interests a large audience. We also chose this genre
because it excites people and puts them on the edge of their seat, and we felt that theses
conventions would be easy to implement within the film and to show to the audience. I did
not focus on the genre for a.4a as it wasn’t a genre I had originally thought to do so I
researched into thriller films and what the conventions were. This was needed to fit the
criteria and hit the grades I wanted to if I was to film. This was a key part of the planning
understanding the conventions of the genre that I was going to film. I found out the
conventions of a thriller film through the internet using multiple sources to ensure that the
details we have found are the best that we could find. We were graded on how clear the
genre was, and this meant that we had to make conventions clear and we found this easy
with the genre of a thriller. We met many conventions within the film we created but
possibly not as many conventions as we could have met to hit the top grade because we
only managed to film about 15 seconds of our film because of the school closing, otherwise I
believe our group would have been able to hit more conventions within the film if give the
right amount of time. My work from my A section really helped meant that I was able to
learn about film conventions and what conventions where from each genre. Also, I found
out that some conventions of certain genres into our film to try and add a different aspect
to the thriller genre. I learn this from my a4a and a4b work and made sure I used some of
this information to help us with filming our film. In addition, my a1-a3 work will helped me
as well because I found key information about budgeting and laws within filming that we
couldn't break and how to ensure that are budget was planned out correctly to ensure that
we met the criteria. The law that I ensured that I didn’t break is the ukcss which is the
copyright law to ensure that my film was correct and I didn’t break any laws. I learnt from a1
that for a small-scale film a budget can be simple and effective. Also, from the small scaled
films budget I learn that they have spent more money on pre productions to ensure that the
fil was perfectly planned and layed out.
During our pre-production film we created many tasks to help us with the filming, we
created many pieces of pre-production such as a storyboard to ensure when filming we
knew what the plan was and what actors where needed for each scene, this is to ensure
that the filming ran smoothly. When filming my film, I took the storyboard to it to ensure
everyone knew what the film was going to look like, and when filming everything was in
place so that nothing went wrong.
In addition, we also created a risk assessment which was essential to lower the risk of injury
of filming and knowing what to do if something did go wrong and the precautions that
would need to be made to ensure no one is at risk, we identified many risks such as tripping
over loose cables when filming, the solution to this was taping loose cables down and
ensuring that no one would have tripped over them . If we had not of carried out a risk
assessment and there was a in jury this would of pushed back our deadline meaning not
meeting the criteria.
Furthermore, we created a 8 shot sequence to ensure that everyone knew the keys shots
that we were going to use and that were important to ensure that everyone knew what was
going on. This was important to the crew because this meant that when. filming the filming
flowed.
Also we created a script to ensure that the actors that were acting out the film knew what
to say and the tone to say t in instead of not knowing what to say making the film not flow
and not appealing to the audience. Also, if there was pauses in the film because the crew
don’t know what to say the audience won't find this attractive.
In addition, we created an equipment list which we needed because if a piece of equipment
was missing this would of slowed down the process of filming. For their filming we used an
iphone 11 which has a fantastic camera and we used this to lower our budget because one
of our crew already had one of these already. our production schedule helped with filming it
gave us enough time to create each part of the production to ensure that no piece of
production was missing, and everyone followed the production timeline. The corona virus
pushed us back because this meant we couldn't have meetings to discuss plans and what
was going to happen when filming. We had to resort to doing group calls to ensure that we
met our deadline.
Also, we created a budget this ensured that we made sure that we needed the equipment
to film and we knew what the cost of this was which allowed us to tweak the budget
depending on what we needed to film. When we created our budget, we made sure that we
spent less than our budget to ensure if anything went wrong during filming we had the
money to ensure we could use this if anything went wrong it wouldn't stop our production.
. We also created a crew roles sheet to ensure that the roles needed wouldn't get confused
when doing these roles, this meant there was no confusion when filming and the crew knew
what they were doing to ensure that the filming would have run smoothly.
One of the most important pieces of pre production was creating an idea mind map at the
very start of pre production mean that we knew that we had the right idea and that our idea
would work and the film would flow We did this as a group to plan out our ideas to ensure
that our idea was perfect, we shared our ideas to interlink our ideas and get the best idea
we could. We also had a client meeting and then created a client note which meant that we
were able to check if we were on track with the client and the client was happy with
everything and then we took notes to ensure that we knew what feedback we needed to
improve. The feedback we was giving to ensure that the casting was perfect and that we
would choose the right people to have acting the film. These pre-production tasks as well as
many others benefited our production because it ensured everyone knew what they were
doing, and that the production ran smoothly.
If I was to edit my film if I finished it, I would of edited in a creative way and used lot of
different types of editing such as a change of lighting, we would change the lighting when
the tension needs to be built up we would make the lighting darker, change of music for
example when it shows the boy being bullied, we will add in dramatic music to make sure
that we built up tension. Also, we would have different cuts and transitions, for example we
would use short cuts which means that certain parts of the film can be action packed
making it exciting for the audience. In addition we would make the film creative and look
appealing to the audience While making the edit creative I would of made sure that I had
used the right conventions when editing so I met the criteria .A convention that can be used
when editing is to slow down the pace of the filming when tensions is building which is a
known convention used in a thriller film. Th reason we have built tensions is this is because
it is a main convention of s thriller film building tension
If I was to film I would of ensured that the costumes where conventions of a thriller film, I
would ensure that the costumes were realistic and they were mainly dark costumes to again
create that mysteriousness and tension. And the acting was as real as possible, because all
though we didn’t have real actors we wanted to ensure that the acting out was as real as
possible. We chose the actors by choosing the most confident actors we trailed them to see
who were the most confident in front of the camera.
Also, when researching the conventions, I found out that when editing sound and lighting
was very important when making conventions clear. I found out that dramatic music will
cause a build-up of suspense which is a key convention of a thriller film. When creating the
pre production tasks we made sure that everything was in place and each piece of pre
production was created to the high level and that it was at the level needed to ensure that it
would of made the filming much easier. We had a timetable created to use as a checklist to
ensure everything ran smoothly. We also had a group chat which we could communicate on
what pieces of work we were working on and helping each other. We also had a memory
stick where all the work was kept, it was also saved to a desktop to ensure that we always
had a backup and made sure that we could not lose the work.
We couldn't film a lot because of the school closing and us being in lockdown this meant we
were only able to film around 15 seconds of our film. The 15 seconds that we film was acted
out well and we had no issues with the camera work the camera was held steady through a
gimble which we rented out from the school, we booked tis in advance to esnure we had it,
there was no issues because we planned it carefully.. When filming the most challenging
part of filming a little bit was getting the correct angles of the shots, we were taking. So, I
cannot analysis the production because we didn’t finish the film and was far from it. We
didn’t edit anything because of the little amount of filming we only managed to do.
