RE: Direct Funding for Municipalities

Dear Members of the Palm Beach County Congressional Delegation:

I write to request your support for direct COVID-19 funding to municipalities. The funding would help
municipal governments to mitigate the current and expected losses experienced throughout the community from
the COVID-19 pandemic.

All municipalities are actively working to respond to the needs of their residents. This included coordinating
efforts among first responders, local healthcare professionals, county, and state partners as we all work together
to combat this pandemic. They are also maintaining critical infrastructure and providing essential services that
residents expect. And as these services increase and financial demands take place, the municipalities will see
substantial revenue losses, particularly from lower sales tax collections due to the dramatic and ongoing
downturn in economic activity.

The CARES Act did not contain funding to offset the drastic revenue shortfalls that state and local governments
are experiencing, nor did it provide any relief to local governments with populations under 500,000. Only one
municipality in Florida qualified for that relief.

As a State Representative representing part of Palm Beach County, I strongly urge you, as Congress works on
the next stimulus package, to please include dedicated and flexible federal funding relief for every municipality
in Florida. This funding will allow the municipalities to continue the incredible work being done to protect the
public’s health, safety, and well-being during this unprecedented time. Otherwise, they may be faced with
challenges that will affect all communities for years to come.
