Invitation for

Honorary Publicity Staff of Gangnam-gu

Gangnam-gu recruits volunteers who will promote the attractive Gangnam-gu. Members
of honorary publicity staff will carry out promotional activities, introducing Gangnam-gu
via personal SNS, Twitter, Facebook, blog and e-mail to their home countries.

In addition, they will have opportunities to publish their personal essays on Gangnam
Ggachi, a monthly newsletter of Gangnam-gu, about their experiences in the Gangnam
area. Volunteers who will offer interpretation services at international events which are
hosted by Gangnam-gu are always welcome as well.

High-performance staff members will be selected twice a year and awarded with free
sightseeing around tourist attractions in Gangnam-gu. The members can also attend
performances, events and exhibitions organized by Gangnam-gu for free. Any
foreigners who live in Korea and love life in Gangnam can apply.

Korean Traditional Lamp Making

Korea has a great number of traditional cultural heritages. Korean traditional lamps are
one of the important national heritages with a deep-rooted history and origin of
Buddhism.

The culture of making a lamp is especially common in the countries with Buddhist
culture including China and Japan. These countries usually host big events with lamps
every year just like the ones in Korea.

The Yeoksam Global Village Center is organizing an event where you can make a
Korean traditional lamp. It will be a meaningful experience for you and the lamp you
make will be a perfect item to decorate your room or house.

Volunteer at St. Mary’s Hospital

Volunteer at St. Mary’s Hospital with Yeoksam Global Village Center!

On Saturday, January 15 from 10:00 to12:00, the volunteer group will pay its eleventh
visit to St. Mary’s Hospital in Gangnam to help with the preparation of medical kits, to
clean the facilities and to spend time with young patients.

Those of you who have interest in music, magic, arts or different recreation to share
with children are welcome to join us!! (No prior experience required.)

Please join us and get involved in your local community. Those who would like to
participate in this activity need to send an email to yeoksam@sba.seoul.kr with your
name, nationality, contact number and your hobby.

Making Tteokguk & Haemulpajeon

The Yeoksam Global Village Center will host a Korean cooking class on Wednesday,
January 19th.

Tteokguk is a Korean dish which is traditionally eaten during Korean New Year. The
dish consists of a broth (guk) and thinly sliced rice cakes (tteok). It is a tradition to eat
tteokguk on New Year's Day because it is believed to grant good luck for the
forthcoming year and gain an additional year of life.

Pajeon is one kind of jeon (Korean pancake) with green onions as its prominent
ingredient. It is a pancake-like Korean dish made from a batter of eggs, flour, rice flour,
green onions and seafood.
