OBL Progress Report

Introduction

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”
—Nelson Mandela
Education is the key to eliminate gender inequality, to reduce poverty, to create a
sustainable planet, to prevent needless deaths and illness, and to foster peace. Especially
for a country like Pakistan, a country still very much in its developing phase, and faces
these problems on a regular basis.

Education is pretty expensive in our country and considered a luxury that not many
people can afford. A number of organizations are working towards making it accessible
to the underprivileged sector of our society.

The Citizens Foundation (TCF) is a non-profit organization, and one of the largest
privately owned networks of low-cost formal schools in Pakistan. The Foundation
operates a network of 1,482 school units, educating 220,000 students through 12,000
teachers and principals, with over 17,400 employees. Approximately 94% of the
Foundation's expenditure is allocated to the Education program.

TADREES is another such organization that aims to provide quality education to the
underprivileged children of the society in order to eliminate social problems like poverty,
gender discrimination and unhealthy environment. Their team is working day in and day
out and has already been able to send 20 street children to schools, so that they can get
quality education. Their main aim is “Education for all” and for that they plan to grow
their network to help as many underprivileged street children as possible.

Progress

We have contacted Tadrees and TCF in order to gauge their requirements as to what
supplies they need and the textbooks they use. Furthermore, we have contacted former
IBA alumni to seek their contributions and donations to help serve this noble cause.
Imminently, we will be working closely with these organizations and prospective donors
and contributors to fulfil their needs.

We have also made a facebook page and are currently working on designing and
distributing pamphlets/flyers.

Execution
·We will be setting up a stall with Adamjee cafeteria, the AMAN CED lobby and the
alumni center as possible candidates for location as those areas have a lot of foot fall and
are accessed by most students.

·The stall would be promoted using pamphlets and social media. The pamphlets would
contain information regarding the schools that we are contacting and the contributions
that would serve our cause.

·We would be collecting any old books, school supplies (for example: stationary,
notebooks etc.), as well as monetary donations. All kinds of books would be accepted
including novels, dictionaries, encyclopedias as well as curriculum textbooks so that
children of all ages can benefit from them.

·We will be setting up the stall in the third week of November, tentatively.

·We will approach both teachers and students in order to educate them about our project
and would ask them to contribute to the cause along with spreading the word to their
friends and family.

·After sufficient donations have been collected, we will approach our identified schools
and divide the donations amongst them, as per their needs.

·We will be documenting the whole process and would be compiling it in a video.
