---INDIRECT OR POLITE QUESTIONS---

“I can make indirect or polite questions” with:
 Do you know …. ?
 Can you tell me…?
 Could you tell me…?
Cuando quieren algún tipo de info, uds hacen una pregunta
normal así: Where is Cabecera?
Para hacer una pregunta indirecta o cortés deben empezar con
cualquiera de las 3 expresiones arriba y luego poner la pregunta que
desean hacer en forma de oración, así:
AUX+SUBJ+VERB + Wh question + subj + verb + ?

Can you tell me where Cabecera is?

(¿Me podría decir dónde queda/es Cabecera?)

Hay dos tipos de preguntas indirectas o educadas: Para hacer preguntas

de información o para preguntas en las que se responde si o no:

WH- QUESTIONS - Preguntas de información

 Could you tell me
 Can you tell me WH question Subj verb + c ?
 Do you know
 Would you mind telling me
Normal Question: Where is Cabecera?

Polite Question: Do you know where Cabecera is?

Normal Question: What time does the train arrive?

Polite Question: Can you tell me what time the train arrives*?
*Al verbo se le pone "s" porque la pregunta original está en presente
simple.

Normal Question: Where can I buy a phone card?

Polite Question: Could you tell me where I can buy a phone card?

Para preguntas en las que uno responde SI o NO por ejemplo:

Is there class tomorrow? (¿Hay clase mañana?)
La manera de hacer una Polite OR indirect question es usando el
"if", así:
I’d like to know if there is class tomorrow
(me gustaría saber si hay clase mañana)

YES / NO QUESTIONS - Preguntas para responder si o no

 Could you tell me
 Can you tell me if Subj verb + complement ?
 Do you know
 I’d like to know
 I wonder
Normal Question: Do I need a Visa to travel to the UK?

Polite Question: Do you know if I need a visa to travel to the UK?

(¿Ud sabe si necesito visa para viajar al RU?)

Normal Question: Is there a hotel near here?

Polite Question: I'd like to know if there is a hotel near here?

(¿Quisiera saber si hay un hotel allá?)
