Subject: 21st Century Literature from the Philippines and the World

I. OBJECTIVE
Content Standard:
The learner will be able to understand and appreciate literary texts in various genres
across national literature and cultures.

Performance Standard:
The learner will be able to demonstrate understanding and appreciation of 21st century
literature of the world through:
1. written close analysis and critical interpretation of a literary text in terms of form
and theme, with a description of its context derived from research.
2. critical paper that analyzes literary texts relation to the context of the reader and the
writer or a critical paper that interprets literary texts using any of the critical
approaches: and
3. an adaptation of a text into other creative forms using multimedia.

Learning Competency:
Writing a close analysis and critical interpretation of literary texts, applying a reading
approach, and doing an adaptation of these, require from the learner the ability to:
1. Identify representative texts and authors from Asia, North America, Europe, Latin
America, and Africa (EN12Lit-IIa-22)
Specific Objectives:
At the end of this lesson, the learners will be able to:
1. Identify representative texts and authors from Japan.
2. To situate the texts in the context of the region, the nation and the world.
3. Write a critical analysis of an excerpt “The Silk” by Alessandro Baricco.

II. CONTENT
Literary genres, traditions and forms from different national literature and cultures, namely,
Asian, Anglo-American, European, Latin American, and African

Instruction:
1. The students will be group into four.
2. The teacher will provide a printed copy of an excerpt “The Silk”
3. Each group will analyze the excerpt and answer the given questions for analysis

 Analysis
1. What is the Silk by Alessandro Baricco all about?
2. Who is Herve Joncour in the story of silk?
3.
 Abstraction
 Discussion of the Topic: Literary Genre of Japanese literature
Popular Japanese author and their literary works

At the end of discussion, the students will be asked about their learnings on the
discussion.
What are the different literary genre originated in Japan?
Who are the popular Japanese author that give a big influence on World literature
because of their literary works?

 Application
1. The students will be group into four.
2. Each group will demonstrate the Japanese culture and tradition in a form of skit
