teristic ester odour. It is miscible with all common solvents, e. g. alcohols,
ketones, aldehydes, ethers, glycols, glycol ethers, and aromatic and
aliphatic hydrocarbons. Its miscibility with water, however, is limited.

Applications

-Ethylhexyl acetate is a hydrophobic yet comparatively polar high boiler

with good solvent power for cellulose nitrate and many natural and synthetic
resins. It is therefore useful in paint and coating formulations, e. g. for cellu
lose nitrate paints. Its properties can also be exploited in coatings for brush
ing on, dip-coating and spraying, and for stove enamels. The main purpose
of adding 2-ethylhexyl acetate is to improve flow and film formation. The
product is also a good coalescing aid for emulsion paints.

Another application for 2-ethylhexyl acetate is as an additive in cleaners and
paint removers.
