Assignment Title: Hydrostatic Forces on Submerged Plane Surfaces

Question# 01: (CLO-1, PLO-2, C-3) [10]

Panel ABC in the slanted side of a water tank is an isosceles triangle with the vertex at A and the base BC
= 2 m, as in figure. Apply the concept of hydrostatic forces on submerged plane surfaces and determine
the water force on the panel and its line of action.

Question# 02: (CLO-1, PLO-1, C-3) [10]

Gate AB in figure is semicircular, hinged at B, and held by a horizontal force P at A. What force P is
required for equilibrium?

Question# 03: (CLO-1, PLO-1, C-3) [10]
A room in the lower level of a cruise ship has a 30-cm-diameter circular window. If the midpoint of the
window is 4 m below the water surface, determine the hydrostatic force acting on the window, and the
pressure centre by applying the concept of hydrostatic forces on submerged plane surfaces.

Question# 04: (CLO-1, PLO-1, C-3) [10]

Isosceles triangle gate AB in Fig. P2.68 is hinged at A and weighs 1500 N. Apply the concept of hydrostatic
forces on submerged plane surfaces and determine horizontal force P required at point B for equilibrium?
