Conduct of Examinations
● STARTING TIMES OF EXAMINATIONS: Each examination must be taken on the day and at the time as shown on the timetable. The published starting time of all examinations is
either 9.00 a.m. or 1.30 p.m. Candidates with more than one examination in a session should take these consecutively. A supervised break may be given between consecutive
examinations.
● Centres may start an examination earlier than, or later than, the published starting time for the session without prior approval from Edexcel. However, in order to maintain the
security of the examination all candidates must start examinations scheduled for a morning session no earlier than 8.30 a.m. and by 9.30 a.m. and for an afternoon session no
earlier than 1.00 p.m. and by 2.00 p.m., except where arrangements have been made for dealing with timetable clashes. Examination centres should refer to the JCQ publication
‘Instructions for Conducting Examinations’ in the first instance.
● Candidates who take an examination earlier than the published starting time shown on the timetable must remain under centre supervision until one hour after the published
starting time for that examination.
● Candidates who take an examination later than the published starting time shown on the timetable must remain under centre supervision from 30 minutes after the published
starting time for the paper concerned until the time when those candidates begin their examination.
● When a change is made to the published starting time for an examination it is the responsibility of the centre to inform all candidates affected by the alteration.
Subject Specific Notes (IGCSE Examinations)
● Certain tests and assessments are not shown on the timetable and should be arranged as follows:
Art and Design
4FA0/01 Art and Design: (Fine Art)
4GD0/01 Art and Design: (Graphic Design)
4PY0/01 Art and Design: (Photography)
4TE0/01 Art and Design: (Textiles)
Question papers and Instructions for the Superintendent for IGCSE Art and Design specifications are not despatched to centres as
hard copies. The question paper and Instructions for the Superintendent are made available from the IGCSE Art and Design page on the
Edexcel website from March in the year of the given May-June examination series. Centres which are entering candidates for an IGCSE Art and Design examination should frequently
check the IGCSE Art and Design page on the Edexcel website, as the question paper and instructions for the Superintendent will be available to download from March.
Candidates have a six week period, prior to the timed test, in which to prepare preparatory supporting studies. At the beginning of the
six week period the teacher should download the question paper and print copies to distribute to the candidates.
The date of the 10 hour test can be at any time after the six week preparatory period. The final deadline for the submission of work to
Edexcel for external assessment is Friday 27 May 2011.
