C. Learning Materials
A. Facts
In everyday life, of course humans can not be separated from the emergence the main
problems of the economy. Problems that arise in its division is divided into two namely the
main problems of classical economics and the main problems of modern economics. To solve
the main problem the economy then blaze the economic system in society. Economic system
itself is the way a country regulates its economic life in order to prosperity. Implementation
of a country's economic system reflected in the overall economic institutions that are used for
achieve the goals set.
B. Concepts
Theoretically, the understanding of the economic system can be said as a combination of
rules or ways that become a unity and used to achieve goals in the economy. Meanwhile
according to Gilarso (1992: 486) the economic system is a whole way to coordinate behavior
society (consumers, producers, governments, banks and others) in keep economic activities
(production, distribution, consumption, investment, and part of it) so that it becomes a regular
and dynamic entity, and chaos can be avoided. Then according to McEachren, the economic
system can be interpreted as a set of mechanisms and institutions for answering what
questions, how and for whom goods and services are produced.
C. Principle
The economic system is the way a country regulates its economic life in order to achieve
prosperity. Implementation of a country's economic system reflected in the overall economic
institutions that are used for achieve the goals set. The country's economic system is affected
by several factors, including ideology / philosophy of national life, nature and identity nation,
as well as economic structure.

Various economic systems


1. Liberal / Capitalist / Market Economic System
Liberal economic system is an economic system where the economy is governed by power
market (demand and supply). The liberal economic system requires it
individual freedom to carry out economic activities. Many liberal economic systems
adopted by European countries and the United States.
a. The characteristics of a liberal economic system:
1) There is recognition of individual rights
2) Consumer sovereignty and freedom in consumption
3) Implement a free competition system
4) The role of capital is very important
5) The role of the government is limited
6) The motive for seeking profit is centered on individual interests
b. Strengths of the liberal economic system:
1) Every individual is free to determine their own economy
2) Every individual is free to have his own means of production
3) Economic activity is advancing faster because of competition
4) Production is based on community needs
5) The quality of goods is guaranteed
6) Quality of service is guaranteed
c. Weaknesses of the liberal economic system:
1) Cause monopoly
2) There is a gap
3) Vulnerable to the economic crisis
4) There is exploitation
5) Unhealthy actions in competition

2. Socialist / Command / Centralized Economic System


The socialist economic system is the economic system in which the economy is governed by
the state. In this system, the course of the economy is entirely the responsibility of the state or
Central government. The socialist economic system is widely applied in countries Eastern
Europe which in general adheres to communism.
a. The characteristics of the socialist economic system:
1) Individual property rights are not recognized
2) All resources are controlled by the state
3) The course of economic activities is entirely the responsibility of the government
4) Economic activities are planned and regulated by the government
5) Production is done for community needs
6) Economic policies are prepared and implemented by the government
b. Strengths of the socialist economic system:
1) The government is fully responsible for the economy
2) The government is free to determine production according to community needs
3) The government regulates distribution
4) Implementation of development is faster
5) Community needs can be met equally
c. Weaknesses of the socialist economic system:
1) Individual property rights are not recognized
2) Individuals do not have freedom in business
3) Community potential and creativity do not develop
4) Long bureaucratic path

3. Mixed Economic System


Mixed economic system is a combination or a mixture of systems liberal and socialist
economics. In this system the government cooperates with the private sector in carrying out
economic activities. This system is many applied in developing countries.
a. The characteristics of a mixed economic system:
1) Economic activities are carried out by the government and the private sector
2) Economic transactions occur through market mechanisms but there is still mixed
government hands
3) There is competition, but there is still government control
b. The advantages of a mixed economic system:
1) Guaranteed economic stability
2) The government can focus attention to advance the business sector medium and small
3) The freedom to try can encourage individual creativity
4) Individual property rights over sources of production are recognized despite
restrictions
5) Prioritizes the public interest rather than personal interests
c. The disadvantages of a mixed economic system:
1) It is difficult to determine the boundary between economic activities that should be
government and private sector
2) Difficult to determine the boundary between the sources of production that can be
controlled by government and private sector
INDONESIA ECONOMIC SYSTEM
The economic system implemented in Indonesia is the Pancasila Economic System
which contained economic democracy. Economic democracy means that
economic activities carried out from, by and for the people under supervision
government.
The main characteristics of the Indonesian economic system:
1. The basic foundation of the Indonesian economy is article 33 of the 1945 Constitution.
2. Economic democracy becomes the basis of Indonesian economic life with
positive characteristics as follows:
a. The economy is structured as a joint effort on the principle of kinship.
b. Branches of production which are important for the country and which govern the
interests people's lives are controlled by the state.
c. The earth, water and natural resources contained therein are controlled by the state
and is used for the maximum prosperity of the people.
d. The national economy is based on democracy with the principle of togetherness,
efficiency, fairness, sustainable, insightful environment, independence as well as by
maintaining a balance of progress and national economic unity.
e. The sources of wealth and state finances are used for agreement on representative
institutions.
f. There is freedom for the people to choose the desired work and decent livelihood.
g. Recognition of individual property rights as long as their use is not interfere with the
interests of many people.
h. The potential, initiative, and creativity of every citizen are developed in boundaries
that do not harm the public interest.
i. The poor and neglected children are nurtured by the state.
3. In practice, economic democracy in Indonesia must avoid the characteristics
negative characteristics as follows:
a. The system of free fight liberalism is freedom that can cause exploitation of humans
and other nations.
b. System etatisme yaitunegara is dominant and urged on and off the potential and
creative power of economic units outside the state sector.
Monopoly is the concentration of economic power in a group that harming the community.
Based on the description above it can be concluded that there are five main features of the
system Pancasila economics namely:
1. The dominant role of cooperatives together with state companies and private
companies.
2. Humans are seen as a whole, not merely economic creatures but also social beings.
3. The existence of a strong social will towards egalitarianism or equality social.
4. The main priority for the creation of a national economy that
5. tough.
6. The implementation of the decentralized system is balanced with strong planning as a
direction for economic development.
Since the reformation of 1998, the system has begun to be developed in Indonesia democratic
economy, where the people play the role of the main actors however, economic activity is
based more heavily on market mechanisms. The government has the right to make
corrections to imperfections and market imbalances. Popular economic characteristics include
as follows :
1. Fair with the principle of fair competition
2. Paying attention to economic growth, social interests, and the value of justice and
quality of life
3. Achieve sustainable development and environmentally sound
4. Guaranteeing work and business opportunities
5. Treat all people fairly
THE ROLE OF THE GOVERNMENT IN INDONESIA'S ECONOMIC SYSTEM
In the Indonesian economic system the government has a sufficient role
that is, as a perpetrator as well as a regulator of economic activity. Accordingly
An outline of the role of government in the economy is as follows:
1. The government has a role in allocating economic resources in a manner
efficient.
2. The government plays a role in the distribution of income from the privileged class to
disadvantaged groups.
3. The government has a role in stabilizing the economy
D. Procedure
1. Read a book and observe the subject matter of the main economics and economic
system
2. Students are given the opportunity to ask questions about subject matter pokook
economy and economic system
3. The teacher gives questions to students
4. Division of groups, each group consists of 5-6 students
5. Group discussion about the economic system when there are still difficulties in
material deepening.
6. The teacher presents a power point regarding the subject matter of the main economy
and economic system
