The Little House

DIRECTIONS: Read the story. Put the events of the story in the correct order.

No one new where it had come from. The funny little house just appeared
one day in the alley between the butcher’s and the grocer’s. It was made of
stone, with a log roof, and the cutest little green door. On the day that
Amanda found the house, there was smoke swirling up out of the chimney,
clearly indicating that someone was at home.
Amanda got down on her knees to examine the little house. How was one
to knock on such a tiny door? She tapped it with the tip of her fingernail.
Then she tapped again. There was a rustling sound, and then to Amanda’s
surprise, the door was flung open, and there stood before her a tiny little
fairy.
“You’re late!” the fairy said.
“I am?” Amanda replied.
“Lunch is getting cold!” The fairy reached for Amanda’s hand and when
they touched, Amanda got a funny sensation in her belly, like she sometimes
got when going over a dip in the road, or when standing in an elevator when
it makes its first, downward lurch. The next thing she knew, she was as tiny as
the fairy, and she was being led into a sweetly furnished house that was as
neat as a pin.

Amanda kneels to examine the house.

A fairy opens the door.
