Pues tengo una powerpc imac G3 que de un dia para otro no encendio. Alguien me ayuda y me dice que caliche77
elementos debo medir?
Tengo conocimientos básicos de electronica.

Si la computadora no da alguna señal de vida y al conectarla al enchufe no detectas consumo de corriente,

entonces debes reemplazar el FET KA5S1265. Este integrado se encarga del encendido de la iMac y cuenta
con una protección contra sobrevoltaje (hasta 600v). Se encuentra en la tarjeta analogica del iMac.

reemplazar este integrado representa el 5% de lo que costaría reemplazar toda la tarjeta.

He resusitado un par de imacs por esta causa.

en que parte de la tarjeta exactamente se encuentra ese integrdo? quiero resucitar mi imac g3 Portisheadx

No es un FET sino el controlador de potencia principal de la máquina. Y dime donde sale $5 que compro 100

es la fuente , esta tronado y mira q le se a las MAC , he reparado como 7 iMaca de esa y tengo como 4
desarmadas en casa con elmismo problema, la feunte es cara, si existe un crack para concetarle uan fuente
convencional, por q esta aliemnta VIDEO y MOTHER, si lo encuentro de nuevo t lo envio pero si se puede,
es mas estas iMac se pueden dar un UPGRADE a G3 a 800 y hasta ponerle AIRPORT elals

How to do it?

Can i just take the case with the mainboard out and "short" the pins Power on (pin 8) with GND
and check the voltages on the connector that comes out of the monitor case?

I know that the pin 8 is the power from articles about imac>atx case conversion. And i know
that you can power up a normal ATX power supply by shortening two pins, and want to know if i
can do the same with iMAc power supply. I don't want to fry anything.

The power supply in a tray-loader iMac is a "board." I don't know the answer to your specfic
question, but...

Why are you doing this check? If you have a symptom of the iMac not starting or shutting down
unexpectedly after running a few minutes, it may be the analog video board that is the problem
instead. Disconnecting the internal video connector and starting up is a way to check for this
problem.

As I have written earlier a topic about main board in an iMac G3 tray-loading , and about
freezing i will write more know.

After the imac freezes there is no way to shut it down (reset doesn't work, and the power
button also doesn't work)I have to pul out the power cord. After putting back the plug the
iMac doesn' want to start up. It turns on without the chime and the power button flashes
orange and the monitor is black.I can also hear a strange noise (squeak or peep) from the
iMac's monitor and surrounding power board and analog board ( it'hard to say what
makes that noise). I must again pull out the power cord and wait for a few and then it
starts up. It works for a few minutes and freezes again.And the story repeats again.
I've checked ram,sgram,hdd,reseted pram all you can do,it happens on OSX but also on
OS9.That is why i wanted to check the power supply ,if the voltages are correct. If it is ok
then the main board is the problem ( maybe i'm right)
I,ve tried pulling out the monitor connector and it doesn't work either.

Sounds like you have eliminated most of the possibilities, other than power supply board
or motherboard. But it may also be the CPU daughter card that is faulty. I had one (233
MHz) that would run Mac OS 9 just fine, but it was unable to run Mac OS X reliably
(crashes and freezes after a few minutes). I replaced it first with a 333 MHz G3 card off of
eBay and later with a 467 MHz G4 card from the Fastmac booth at MacWorld San
Francisco two years ago.

If you are comfortable disassembling the iMac to the point of removing the power supply
board, you can layout the PS board and the carrier assembly (the thing you pull out with
the motherboard, CPU card, and drives) on a table top. Then connect the power supply
board to the carrier assembly, and connect the external power cord plug to the power
supply board, and connect a keyboard with a power button to the carrier.

To measure the voltages, you can disconnect the 4-pin connector to the hard
drive. If you turn it on using the power button on the keyboard, it will not start
up with the hard drive not powered up (unless you use a bootable CD), but the
system should be powered so that you can take your measurements.

Hope that works. Be careful with the exposed back end of the CRT. Keep any curious cats
out of the room while you do this...

(This is my first guide, so please tell me how I did, thanks!)

Having problems with your CRT monitor? I have been spending the past few weeks gathering as much
information personally, as possible, for this.

NUMBER ONE RULE: ALWAYS DISCHARGE THE CRT! I will not be held responsible, if you are
not taking proper CRT measures. A CRT is like a big capacitor, it will hold a charge even after the
CRT has been off. This charge can be around 50 thousand volts, and it is a very painful experience to
mess with.

Monitor Dark
1. Check the brightness/contrast controls.
2. Open up monitor and look for "SCREEN" on flyback transformer, turn up the POT to make the CRT
brighter. Note: If you have to do this, either the POT moved from heat, or the transformer is on it's way
out.

Monitor Out of Focus.

This can be a tricky one, as most newer CRT's have TWO focus POTs on the flyback transformer. The
second POT helps keep the picture in focus at the edge of the screen. So both POTs are to be used
together, to try and make a clear image.

Image Not Centered

1. Refer to the OSD controls, or knobs on the monitor. If there is non, there might be POTs on the
chassis of the monitor/TV. They are most likely called "H-Phase", and "V-POS"

Image Distorted
1. Refer to the OSD controls, or knobs on the monitor. There might be some POTs on the chassis, but
this most likely will need to be fixed by messing with the magnets on the back of the CRT. These look
like notched "rings".

Color Distorted
This depends on the type of distortion there is in the color. If there are "spots", you will need to degauss
the screen with either the built in degaussing coil, or an external solution.

If the color distortion is a lack of a color, or two much of a color (Red, Green, or Blue), then you will
need to adjust the DRIVE and CUT on the back of the CRT's neck circuit. Do NOT ever touch green,
this is the base color, and all other POTs are to be adjusted to green. While a personal preference,
movies and TV shows are produced with a 6500k picture in mind. This is the same calibration
professional TV calibrators will set your TV too.
CRT "Flat Lines" or Gives A Vertical Stripe
This is most likely a problem with the yoke. First make sure the connections from the chassis to the
yoke is secure. If they are, clean the yoke via compressed air.

CRT is Scratched
Sorry, you are SOL on this one. If it's a anti-glare coating, the best you can do is damage the rest of it
to get rid of it. But mind you, is it really worth that much trouble? It will also make the picture brighter
and mess up color calibration.

Hearing Pops
That's the flyback transformer. Time to get it replaced.

And the finale, which is JUST for old iMac G3 (CRT) users: Is your iMac not turning on, or does it
turn on, only to pop, or have the picture "flash", then turn off? The flyback transformer in these
iMacs can overheat, and actually have an internal short. Get it replaced immediately, and when it's
replaced, add another fan to the upper part of the iMac, to prevent this damage again.
