1-Introduction:

The water absorption, being the average of three units, when determined
shall not be more than 10 percent by mass , put it in oven and make it
dry, determine the weight and then put it in water and then and after a
sometime determine it again, the different between the weight will use in
water absorption, and this will let to know about the Quality of Block.

6-Procedures:.
Figure 3: peace of tested block (in group C1)

1. Select 5 pieces of concrete blocks.

2. Dry the test specimens in a ventilated oven at (100 to 115°C) for not
less than 24 h and until two successive weightings at intervals of 2 h
show an increment of loss not greater than 0.2 % of the last previously
determined weight of the specimen.
3. Cool the specimens in a drying room maintained at a temperature of
(24 ± 8°C), with a relative humidity between 30 and 70 % and weigh
each one.
4. Immerse the specimens in water at a temperature of 15ºC to 26ºC for
24 hours.
5. Remove the specimen, wipe off the surface water with a damp cloth

and weigh the specimen. Complete weighing of each specimen within 5
min after removing the specimen from the bath.

7- Calculation and Results:

(Wd) = Weight of the dry specimen.

(Ws) = Weight of the saturated specimen after submersion in cold water
for 24hr.

w s−w d
𝐴𝑏𝑠𝑜𝑝𝑟𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛(%) = [ ] × 100
wd

Wd = 900 gm Ws = 1030gm

1030−990
𝐴𝑏𝑠𝑜𝑝𝑟𝑡(%) = [ ] × 100 = 4.04
990

𝐴𝑏𝑠𝑜𝑝𝑟𝑡(%) = 4.04

3 3185 3340 4.86

4 960 1010 5.21

5 625 675 8

8-Discussion and Conclusions:

Discussion:

In this test we ( group C1 ) get 4.04 and that’s absolutely what we want
and conform with the Iraqi standard specification (ISS) of (Type-A) , the
only problem was the temperature of the laboratory that didn't match
with a requests but it was a big problem and not effected too much on the
test , and the all test in group (C) was conform with (ISS) (Type-A) (Less
than 15).

Solid A 15

Conclusion:

The Block was from (Type-A) in water absorption property and we can
use it easily In terms of this feature without any problem.
