Answer each of the following case incidents.

Case study #1

Rona enjoys working on the assembly line. However, she seems to repeatedly forget the
instructions you have given her about safe lifting practices. 

What are some techniques you would use to help Rona work more safely?

In the case of Rona, it is better for the management to increase the amount of items such as
visual aids and posters that show proper lifting practices inside the production area to keep the
employees reminded of what are the proper lifting procedures to increase safety inside the
workplace because we don’t know if its only Rona who is currently having a difficult time on
exercising these practices. At the same time, training are very vital. Maybe we can establish
some programs that help employees to understand how important safe lifting practices are and
what are the possible effects if they don’t follow.

Case study #2

Daniel is required to wear ear-plugs when he works near loud machinery. He is very good at
inserting the ear-plugs correctly, but you have noticed that he sometimes arrives at work
wearing his ear-plugs. You suspect he is not removing them when he finishes work.

How would you address this issue?

For Daniel, it is clearly that he is forgetting to take off his ear plugs every time he went off from
work. First we should asses why he keeps on doing this? Is it intentional or there is something
lacking inside the workplace area that pushes him to do such things and forgot to wear off his
ear plugs. Proper equipment storage helps alot to entice the workers to use them and to be
keep reminded on what is supposed to be inside these storages. When we have a proper
equipment storage it serves as a reminder of some sort to employees that these particular items
should here or should be there. Giving the environment a sense of reminder of what is right and
what are the things to be done. Another thing i can see about this situation is i think it is better
for the employees to have a frequent reminder about their gears and proper storage after them
using it are the illustrations that can be seen around the work area that shows proper
equipment, tools and items storage.
Case study #3

Nicola frequently leaves her gloves on the conveyor belt. This causes problems on the assembly
line when they become caught.

What would you do to help solve this problem?

Address this issue first to Nicola , it is very important that the person who is directly involve in
the incident knew what is going on and tell them the possible problems and threats that it
impose inside the production line particularly in the conveyor belt. Let them be reminded of the
dos and donts by giving them proper instruction and make violations susceptible to disciplinary
action if it happens too frequent. Giving right knowledge to all operators inside the production
line on how to store their equipments after their shift is important because themselves act as a
reminder on what are the things to be done inside the production line. They can remind their
fellow employees that these particular actions are intolerable and can lead to disciplinary
actions at the same time it poses a threat inside the work area.

Case study #4

Milan can’t reach to put the rolls of paper towel away on the top shelf. Instead of getting the
safety step, he sometimes throws the rolls up onto the shelf. Yesterday one rolled off and hit
Jane who was walking past carrying a tray of glasses.

How would you address this issue?

In the case of Milan it is clearly shown that she isn’t fit so well on her work area. Clearly there is
a fault on design because employees should exert too much effort in terms of storage when it
comes to work. Reaching out thing that are too high or too far can pose a great threat in safety
of the workers inside the workplace. My first recommendation is to transfer Milan to a more
suitable working area that fits on her height and reach for us to reduce or eliminate this
incident. Second , if we don’t have that leisure to transfer her into another workstation. It is very
important that we should redesign her workplace so it should fit her needs and she can perform
her tasks well. On the other hand giving her a proper seminar and lesson on what are the dos
and donts inside the workarea. And giving her a proper knowledge on how to safely store goods
or items inside her particular workplace.
