Aquinas stated “the light of reason is placed by nature [and thus by God] in every man to guide him in his acts”
Therefore, human beings, alone among God’s creatures, use reason to lead their lives. This is natural law.

Among all creations, man alone has the capability to

ponder and search for the answer behind the question
“how am I supposed to live”, hence it is him alone who
has been given the light of reason. By reasoning, man is
able to see things in nature and deduce what is right and
wrong by carefully studying the nature where he lives. By
observing nature within reason, man is able to see the
natural laws that are established in it which eventually
leads him to the discovery of the higher law, which are
those established by the maker of the nature he observes.

Through reason man is able to see the difference

between which is just and unjust. And he naturally sees
them as well hence reason is naturally a part of him.

Law established in nature are laws established by God

hence he is the maker of them all. Therefore, what is
natural is moral that’s why those natural laws reflect a
more higher laws given by God. And man being part of
nature, through reason, is capable is seeing those laws.
When man is doing things that are not contradictory to
what and how must nature works. He is doing what is
morally good. Like killing, is it natural for man to kill

another human being? Is it part of his nature? If that is not

How it seems to work, by light of reason, and the natural law is that man is not supposed to kill another human being,
therefore the natural law is like man should not kill another human being, which reflects a higher law.

In conclusion, man, being the only rational being, has given by God the ability to reason. Choosing right or
wrong, just and unjust, it is all guided by nature. What comes natural is what we consider as good and right. Ad what
contradicts to what we consider as natural is immoral. Man, as a conscious being, is responsible of his actions because
natural law is his guidance.
