1. Weapons
=========================================================
Weapons are quite varied in their effects, range and suitable use. But there's
one thing to keep in mind - there is a stat in the game that isn't represented
here because there's no good way to measure it: bullet groupings. Some guns
are very good about putting their bullets into tight groupings which makes
them
a bit more useful than you might think otherwise while some good guns are made
somewhat less useful thanks to bad grouping. Even with Dead Eye bad grouping
can cause your shots to go a bit wild.

Due to this stat one of the best guns in the game is the Bolt Action Rifle.
The
shots almost always go exactly where you aim them even if they do so a bit on
the slow side since you don't have much in the ways of rate of fire with it.

=========================================================
2. Main Story
=========================================================
Exodus in America
===================
After the opening cutscene it's up to you to do what any good self-respecting
cowboy will be doing, head to the Saloon. Jake will be helping you out for a
bit and the first order of business is to get you a horse. Once you two saddle
up you're in for a bit of a ride to reach Fort Mercer where a gang has holed
themselves up. More dialogue ensues until John recieves a firm no from Bill.

===================
New Friends, Old Problems
===================
Giver: Bonnie
-------------------
Marston wakes up a bit later on all fixed up. This is yet another tutorial on
how to ride your horse around, one you will need as horse riding isn't easy.
When it ends time will skip to night and you will be out on patrol with
Bonnie.
This is your combat tutorial - you get to kill some rabbits first and then you
are taught to use your Dead Eye power to hunt some fast moving coyote. It's
all
pretty simple so do it and then follow Bonnie to your first safe house.

===================
Obstacles in our Path
===================
Giver: Bonnie
-------------------
Now for your very first horse race - it's tough since you don't really have
much experience dealing with the horses just yet. It's hard to give much
advice
as to how to approach this mission since it's really all about learning how to
handle the horses. The only real tip that can be given is to learn to watch
the
horses' stamina meter. When it's more than half full feel free to mash on the
A button to force it to speed up and be careful NOT to do this when it's down
to less than half of its stamina.

From here you can either start doing missions for the Marshal or continue on
with Bonnie. This guide will follow Bonnie first.

===================
This is Armadillo, USA
===================
Giver: Bonnie
-------------------
Yet another tutorial mission, this one will teach you how to drive a carriage
as well as opening up the Doctor's Office for purchases. In addition once you
buy the medicine that Bonnie tells you to get the town of Armadillo will fully
open up to you, all of the stores selling goods you can now purchase.

You can also buy another safehouse or get into a duel with the schmuck in
town.
Lastly stagecoaches can now be used to automatically travel to other locations
but it's heavily suggested you only use these on rare occasions. You can get a
lot of stuff to sell, as well as run across people to interact with, in the
wilds and you're missing out on it if you use the stagecoach.

===================
Women and Cattle
===================
Giver: Bonnie
-------------------
You're still in tutorial town as far as Ms. Bonnie is concerned. This teaches
you how to herd cattle and once you're done with that, that's it. To drive the
cattle most efficiently try to keep pace with the herd and wave back and forth
behind them to keep them moving. The faster you go, the faster they go so be
careful with how fast you move. Eventually they will start to wander off so go
to the sides and keep pace, forcing them to turn away from you. Eventually you
will reach the tree and that's it!

===================
Wild Horses, Tamed Passions
===================
Giver: Bonnie
-------------------
Bonnie is pretty good for these simple missions apparently. However this one
is
just a bit trickier since the game doesn't fully explain what it wants you to
do. You'll have to lasso them in a fairly complicated manner so be prepared to
have some fancy finger work going on.

To catch the horses you will want to race towards them, slow down enough so
you
are matching their movement speed and then bring up the lasso with the aim
button. Lead the horse a bit and toss the lasso but once you've let go of the
be sure to keep holding down the aim button. Now get off of your horse, walk
over to the wild one and get on. Follow the on-screen instructions to break
the horse.

You will have to do this three times before this mission ends.

===================
A Tempest Looms
===================
Giver: Bonnie
-------------------
It's time for some more cow wranglin! This is basically just a more
complicated
version of Women and Cattle so there aren't too many surprises. If a cow
starts
to wander off then ride near it to chase it back to the herd. Honestly it's
not
that difficult especially since you have enough space to effectively herd them
and you should know what you're doing now.

The only tough part is when the cows run for the cliff. Take out your lasso
and
try to get in front of them. Cut off as many cows as you can by weaving
between
them as you ride. If you're finding that any of them don't want to stop then
lasso them before they reach the cliff to avoid them going overboard.
Bonnie's final mission can't be done just now so it's time to visit the
Marshall.

===================
Political Realities in Armadillo
===================
Giver: Marshal Johnson
-------------------
It seems that the Marshal would like to help you out more but his own problems
are interfering with his desire to assist you. You can help out with this by
aiding him in dealing with some toughs in the saloon. Walk towards the saloon
with the Marshal and you will see a man riding off. The Marshal takes off in
pursuit so call your horse to do the same. When you corner him at his gangs
hideout you will get a combat tutorial on using cover. Whittle down the
enemies
until the boss steps out of the house. Now you have two choices:

1. Shoot Walton to death. This costs you some money and honor since there's an
active bounty on the man and they need information he has.
2. Either shoot him in the legs or simply lasso him. By taking him down
without
killing him you will gain honor and money.

The Sheriff leaves you now so search the house for some money, loot the bodies
and then head back to town.

===================
Justice in Pike's Basin
===================
Giver: Marshal Johnson
-------------------
It seems that the Bollard Twins and some Mexicans are rustling up some cattle.
This is another combat mission although it's not very hard. The trick here is
to stay behind freaking cover. If you stay out of cover for too long the
bandits will gladly take you down since they're actually quite accurate. This
is especially troublesome when dealing with bandits who are using rifles while
hiding across the canyon from yourself.

If you haven't been using it all that much yet now is the time to get very
well
acquainted with Dead Eye. This makes it very easy to lean out of cover, line
up
a head shot and only take a minimal amount of hits. Just don't use it too much
in one go. Try to give it time to replenish itself by using it in small bursts
to take out one enemy at a time.

When the mission is over you will have a new person marked on your map, the
snake oil salesman Nigel West Dickens. You can't proceed any further with the
Sheriff until you visit Dickens.

===================
Old Swindler Blues
===================
Giver: Nigel West Dickens
-------------------
This is a pretty interesting mission. When you find Mr. West Dickens you will
see him lying about in the dirt. It seems that the old swindler has been shot
and desperately needs you to get him back to town. Initially this plays out
just like when you were escorting Bonnie to Armadillo but enemies quickly come
to make the poor swindlers life even more miserable.

You're on a timer here - you only have until that blue bar drains to get him
to
a doctor. If he gets hurt gunshots the bar goes down a good bit so you'll be
trying to rush back to town while killing the bandits as fast as you can. It's
best if you just use Dead Eye to ensure you kill the enemies as they come at
you, not even bothering with trying to shoot regularly.

After you fight your way past two individual groups of bandits you will
finally
reach town. Bring him to the docs to end this mission. The path splits again
here: Either visit Dickens or the Marshal for your next mission.

===================
Spare the Rod, Spoil the Bandit
===================
Giver: Marshal Johnson
-------------------
You're in for a fun time with this one, although a horribly depressing one at
the same time. Follow the Marshal and his men along the road to reach a farm
that is being slaughtered by bandits. Along the way you will find a pair of
campsites that have been wiped out so keep moving until you reach the farm. If
you haven't purchased the Winchester Rifle you will get it for free here.

Search the outhouse and shack before gathering by the barn with the others.
Use
your pistol to open the door by shooting the four boards off to be greeted
with
a pretty brutal sight. Get your rifle out and head back to the farmhouse to
handle this gang.

They're pretty stupid at first, running out the door like video game lemmings
off a cliff, so youc an shoot them down easily. To make it even easier they
will often try to take cover behind the porch railing... the very easy to
shoot
through porch railings.

After killing enough of them you can head inside of the house to clean up the
last of them. The men on the first floor are easily killed but the two holed
up
upstairs with two women are more difficult. The first one, closest to the
staircase, has a woman on her knees in front of him. Shoot him fast or he will
turn to shoot you. The second one has a woman held hostage - quickly enter
Dead Eye and shoot him in the face to free her.

Gather up by the shack, listen to the woman whine that you didn't help her and
then make your way with the posse down the roads. Eventually you are ambushed
by your dear old pal Bill who sends his men after you. Your men will take
cover
in a broken down shack that you use for cover from the attacking waves.

Honestly this is pretty simple to complete. There are two waves of about six
or
seven enemies. All you need to do to survive is take cover when you start to
get hurt, popping out to take shots when your health is in good shape. Use any
Dead Eye you may have when you see a chance to take out two enemies and this
will end before you know it. The house shoot out was tougher than this.

We have to stop with the Marshal for a moment but Miss Bonnie is available for
another mission. Her last one at that.

===================
The Burning
===================
Giver: Bonnie
-------------------
Make your way to the quest marker to be approached by Bonnie. It seems that
her
father is missing and nobody can find him. Ride out with Bonnie and you will
find her father standing around in the wilderness near dead animals and men.
He
tells you to go back to the farm to get the carriage so you can pick him up.

Head back to the farm alongside Bonnie where you'll see that the barn has
caught on fire. Follow the quest markers to find your way up the side of the
building, climbing up and over the ledges to get on top of the barn. Drop down
into the barn, climbing down the ladders until you reach the ground level.
Open
the door by walking over and pressing the Y / Triangle button to remove the
pitchfork holding the door closed.

The horses won't come out yet and nobody else is coming in so run over to the
first two horses. You will get a prompt to slap them in the rear so that they
will run out of the burning building. That won't work with the last one though
due to the doorway collapsing a bit - jump onto the horse and leap over the
debris yourself. All that's left is to meet up with Bonnie and finish the job.

===================
Hanging Bonnie MacFarlane
===================
Giver: Marshal Johnson
-------------------
Wanna walk about ingrates? Here's Drew MacFarlane for you! Of course he blames
you for his daughters disappearance. It seems that the gang has captured her
and are holding her hostage in exchange for the guy you captured. Get ready
for
a nice long ride to Tumbleweed, it's going to take quite a bit to reach it.

When you finally arrive you'll find that the men have no plans on giving her
over to you. You'll have to fight off quite the ambush to rescue the poor
woman
from the gang. It starts off with three men in front of you and one on the
church roof to your right. Then there's four more past the entrance to town
and
a good five more beyond that.
While the Sheriff's men will be helping you out you have to rush forward to
reach Bonnie. This is a great time to use a Moonshine and use Dead Eye to
snipe
down as many enemies as you can. After you see them kick out the stool from
under the poor abused woman you really have to move it or you will fail the
mission. If you feel like you're taking too long rush over and cut her free,
you will heal up during the cutscene of him cutting her free.

When that's done just clear out the rest of them and then untie her to finish
the mission.

There's only one mission left with the Marshal but it's going to take a bit
more time to unlock so we're back to only having West Dickents to work with.

===================
You Shall Not Give False Testimony, Except for Profit
===================
Giver: Nigel West Dickens
-------------------
West Dickens wants you to ride with him to Ridgewood Farm to meet another
prospective customer so climb up into the carriage and ride. Nigel drops you
off outside of town and asks that you make your way on foot into town. Walk on
into town, right into the midst of the crowd to start up the cutscene.

You will have to complete a couple of tasks here to complete the mission:
- Shoot the skull off the poarch. This is a simple one that only requires you
to aim for the glinting skull hanging on the porch.
- Shoot a hat out of the air. You're introduced to Dead Eye lock-ons here so
just use Dead Eye and fill that thing full of holes.
- A fistfight with Aquila. If you've done these before this will be no big
deal but the game instructs you anyways. Fight him off, blocking if you get
too hurt to move this to the final stage.
- The man will pull a gun and you need to get that out of his hands. This is
very easily accomplished by using Dead Eye, don't even sweat it.

This ends the mission. Nigel will send you to his friend Seth telling you that
he can help you out.

===================
Exhuming and Other Fine Hobbies
===================
Giver: Seth
-------------------
Mr. Seth here is quite a fine customer isn't he? Can't imagine why he isn't
married. Well anymore. It seems that you need to help Seth get to his friend
Moses who is being held by some deputies. To do so you're going to need to do
something to distract those deputies.

Get up onto one of their horses and ride off with it to become wanted. This
will cause them to chase after you. Just ride off and try to lose your Wanted
level. Once you do so you'll find that the men have left Moses undefended.
Seth
gets knocked over as Moses runs for it. Chase after him and lasso him, hogtie
him and then return him to Seth.
To help clear the bounty off of your head you can either use the Pardon Letter
that Seth gave you or pay it off. It's best to pay the thing off on your own
as
the Pardon letter is worth far more than $20. Simply pay off your debt and the
mission will finish.

You can now either do another mission for Seth or another for Mr. West
Dickens.

===================
Liars, Cheats and Other Proud Americans
===================
Giver: West Dickens
-------------------
Don't accept this mission until you're interested in a race. It's not even a
cool horse race but a wagon race. When you arrive at Gaptooth Breach hop down
off of the cart and get onto the cart that's indicated by the blue dot. You'll
get a minor tutorial on how to handle the cart as well as the rules to for the
race. Basically it boils down to don't shoot anyone but feel free to run them
right the hell off the road with your cart.

You will have to go past 18 smoke signals to complete the race. Completing it
isn't all that easy but it's not terribly hard either. The trick is to try and
whip the hell out of your horses on the straightaways and then playing it as
safe as you can on the more dangerous terrain. This should allow you to keep a
good lead on the others without taking too many risks. Go for a serious lead
as
soon as the race starts by whipping the horses like mad.

There's nothing much else to say about the race. Be mindful of the bridge you
cross after the ninth smoke signal as if a single wheel goes over the edge of
the thing you're tumbling to your doom. Just respawn and try to regain your
position if you should happen to fall prey to this.

With that done ride back to civiliation with West Dickens to end the mission.
This also opens up a new quest giver, a gun dealer by the name of Irish. There
are only a few missions left for West Dickens so we will continue those for
the
time being.

===================
Can A Swindler Change His Spots?
===================
Giver: West Dickens
-------------------
Walk into the midst of the crowd to run the same scheme as you ran in
Ridgewood
Farm. Dickens tries to go through the same spiel he went through in the last
location but he's interrupted by two men who ride up and accuse Dickens of
being a charlatan. It's time to get the hell out of dodge.

Run to the cart and climb into the passenger seat. You'll now have to defend
the wagon and Nigel from plenty of incoming angry men. They're going to be
coming at you from the back so start shooting once you see them. This is a
good
deal easier if you're using Expert targeting since if you can aim even
remotely
well most of your shots will dismount the riders. When they get a bit closer
then switch to using Dead Eye to take out one or two of them.

A ways down the road you will find your path blocked by a blockade. Try to get
the two snipers with one use of Dead Eye and then shoot the boxes of TNT to
blow the thing out of your way so that Nigel can continue.

From this point on enemies will come from the front and behind. When they come
from the front area it's likely to be a cart driven by two armed men. Use Dead
Eye when possible to get them both from a distance before turning to watch
your
backs again. If you run low on rifle ammo then he will give you ten more so
don't skimp on shooting everything that moves.

Eventually you will fight off the last man leaving you and Nigel safely at
Cueva Seca. There's only one last mission to do for him so let's do that next.

===================
The Sport of Kings, and Liars
===================
Giver: West Dickens
-------------------
Make sure you're good at horse riding before starting up on this one. It's
going to take a good bit of handling to make sure that you end up in first
place during this race. Offensive driving isn't quite as effective here so you
will want to make sure that you know how to ride the horse properly before you
even attempt this.

There are no real particularly difficult spots here but the other riders are
frustrating to deal with. They're very aggressive, capable of pushing you off
road and slowing you down mightily, and their horses are incredibly fast. It
actually almost feels like their animals are going at top speed (when you mash
the "speed up" button) at all times.

However you can replicate this and make the race easier by a mile simply by
feeding your horse some horse pills just as the race starts. Get into 6th
place
and give him the pills. Once he has those you can just cram on the button so
it
goes at full tilt for quite some time. With two of these on hand you should be
able to take first easily without any chance of losing the position at any
time
during the race.

Finishing in first finishes of Nigels quests so it's time to pay Seth another
visit.

A Gentle Drive with Friends
===================
Giver: Seth
-------------------
Ugh. Time to get on the road with Seth while he searches some dead bodies. All
starts off fairly well with you simply driving the wagon down the road while
he
does his grisly work. Unfortunately after a bit some treasure hunters will
start to assault your wagon rather aggressively.

You're going to have to be very careful here. The road you must take is very
twisty so you need to watch the map. But then the enemies are attacking in
fair
sized groups (four to six), some of the men are rather large men that take
several shots to kill and there are guys throwing molotov cocktails. So you
are
going to have to watch the road while gunning down enemies as quick as you
can.

The first group of enemies aren't that bad but the second ones are huge pains
in the rear since you need to make a rather sharp turn while they're attacking
and bumping into your cart. Make judicious use of Dead Eye to handle this and
get to Tumbleweed as quickly as possible to end this one.

===================
Let the Dead Bury Their Dead
===================
Giver: Seth
-------------------
It seems that Seth is feeling a bit nervous about actually going for the
treasure. However Marston convinces him to go with him to the actual location
of the stuff within the abandoned settlement. This entails a bit of walking
through Tumbleweed although the peacefulness of your walk is interrupted by
some rather unfriendly treasure hunters.

You'll have to fight them through the town all the way to the mansion. It's a
pretty simple trip all things considered mostly because the enemies aren't all
that aggressive nor are they wielding very strong weapons. The hard part comes
when you actually go into the mansion through the basement entrance.

As you round the corner two men will enter the basement to attack. Go upstairs
into the house to find two men in the living room, one of whom you can shoot
from the room at the top of the basement stairs. Then there's even more men
when you go upstairs, three more standing between you and the treasure.
There's
a final guy guarding the chest but he's easy at this point. The problem is
that
in the close quarters if you're facing the wrong direction you will very
likely
die to the enemy gunfire so be very, very careful.

Once you kill the last enemy approach the chest. Thus ends Seth's questline.

===================
A French Man, A Welshman and an Irishman
===================
Giver: Irish
-------------------
When you enter the Livery you will find Irish being dunked by two men. You'll
have to kill them to even be able to talk to the man so do so. Now's a good
time to use a shotgun if you've bought one already (if you haven't then you
get
one for free during this mission). When the two of them are killed Irish will
offer to ride you to the location of a machine gun you're looking for.

Upon arrival you will see a camp of bandits guarding a cabin that contains the
machine gun. They're all pretty vulnerable when you arrive at the camp so if
you have a good rifle, preferably a repeater, and just take headshots you can
get rid of most of them in one swift attack.

When they're disposed of go to the cabin but be ready. A man bursts outside
with a double barrel shotgun in hand so take him out quickly. Go inside to
search the cabin to find out that Irish was lying. It's time to... speak to
the
little rat fink.

===================
Man is Born Unto Trouble
===================
Giver: Irish
-------------------
Irish claims that some miners up in the mountains have found a heavy machine
gun that they're holding. Follow him up to mine and he will leave you there to
siege the camp. You will be instructed to use your Dead Eye skills to take out
the two men who confront you before the game instructs you to assault the
camp.

Don't do it just straight up though. If you charge up the middle enemies can
shoot you from all sides. Instead turn to the right and follow that stone
wall.
It goes around and then turns into a hill you can climb. This path will take
you to the top of the mining area directly but more importantly it makes most
of the enemies come to you. The guys from the lower level will come from a
path
to the left to assail you so just shoot them down as quick as they come.

Near the top you will fight three more men before you can do anything else.
Use
the winch in the small building to lower a mine cart and quickly get onto it,
riding it down into the mine.

The mine shaft is pretty freaking thick with enemies but they almost all
attack
in pairs. This will let you cut through most of the enemies with ridiculous
ease until you reach the main room. If you have any problems at all they can
be
pretty easily solved by simply shooting at the explosive crates and barrels of
TNT they have strewn about the mine. When you near the main room, the area
with
your destination marker, you will be attacked by a whole load of enemies. Use
any explosives you can to thin the herd and Dead Eye will do the rest.

Grab onto the mine cart and bring it back the way you came get it out of the
mine. Up here under the fresh air you will have to push the cart into the
middle of the enemy camp but only a few enemies are in your way. Gun down
those
that attack you but be ready for a surprise. A cutscene shows a big man
putting
an explosive barrel on the track - shoot it to kill him and remove it from the
track or you die. Simple as that.

When you reach Irish with the rail car you will end the mission, him taking it
off to be stored.

===================
On Shaky's Ground
===================
Giver: Irish
-------------------
When you find Irish he's sunk to a new low, trying to rob some poor nuns at
gun
point. Marston shows him the error of his ways as gently as he possibly can...
by throwing him around. Irish will walk you over to the warehouse and then
around to the back when he finds the front door locked.

It turns out that Irish's friend Shaky is being used as a punching bag for
trying to steal from the warehouse. John gets to go in there to rescue the
poor
blighter while Irish runs off to grab a carriage. Follow the destination
marker
and climb up the ladders onto the roof of the building and make your way to
the
left. Go down the stairs built into the roof and then into the window to get
inside of the warehouse.

If one of the guards hasn't been alerted to you yet then you should be able to
just knife him. Should he be aware of you then just shoot him and use Dead Eye
to snipe the three guys inside the room. Run over, free Shaky and it's time to
get him out of here.

Once you've freed Shaky you'll have to help get out of the warehouse. To start
with stay in the room you rescued Shaky in and take cover by a window. Punch
out the glass and start shooting the enemies from here. Across from you on a
balcony is an explosive - shoot it to take out a few guys over there. When
they
are all cleaned up Shaky urges you to get outside where more enemies wait.
Take
them out as you move through the crates to reach the ammo, ending this part of
the mission.

Since you're getting on a cart and it's not cutting to a cutscene you know
what
that means... time to guard the wagon again! This one isn't that bad so long
as
you have plenty of Dead Eye. There aren't too many cowboys coming to attack so
if you time your shots carefully you can kill them without ever having to
manually shoot. This is ideal since the road is very twisty and bumpy making
any sort of accurate shooting nigh unto impossible.

When you reach the MacFarlane Ranch the mission ends. But that's not the last
mission for Irish... But for now it's time to show Bill Williamson who'se
boss.
===================
The Assault on Fort Mercer
===================
Giver: Marshal Johnson
-------------------
It seems that everything has finally come together and everyone is ready to
take out Fort Mercer. You might be surprised to hear this but you'll find this
to be one of the easiest missions you've dealt with thus far. You have men to
help you out, a big ol' gun and plenty of ammunition to help you get through
this in one piece.

To start with you are hiding in Nigel West Dickens wagon, popping out to use a
freaking gatling gun against the enemies. Start gunning down everything that
moves, shooting until your hearts content. This doesn't take very long if you
are even remotely accurate and all of the enemies can be cut down pretty fast.

Once you're done with that you will move with the Marshall and his deputies as
they move along the upper level, clearing out the enemies. You can hang out
behind the deputies, taking pot shots at the enemies while they're distracted
by your human shiel... er, allies. Sweep the upper floor as well as the lower
level before reuniting with the Marshal.

This leads to another section with you manning the gatling gun and firing on
yet more bandits. Watch out for the guys on the carts - they have machine guns
that can tear you a new one. If you aim for the gunner the whole cart blows
up,
taking out the gunners and drivers. The hardest part of this is the men riding
on horses since they can close in on you really fast. Try to lead them a bit
so you can shoot them, or their horse, dead.

When this brawl finally ends so does the mission. All that's left is for Irish
to get you to Mexico.

===================
We Shall Be Together in Paradise
===================
Giver: Irish
-------------------
Irish makes this sound so easy... you know it's going to be hell. Take note
that there is a Springfield Rifle hidden on the raft, so grab that as it will
come in handy during this trip. There's also an ammo box with rifle ammo in it
and this too will come in quite handy on your trip.

Sure as day bandits will open fire on you, the only question is whether
they're
here for you or Irish. With the Springfield in hand this section is very easy.
All it takes is a glancing shot on their arm, leg or body and these men are
almost guaranteed to go down in one hit. This is a pretty simple part until
the dynamite throwers enter the picture.

These guys sit up high on the hills throwing TNT into your raft. Their first
toss will often miss due to you being too far away but after that all bets are
off. Try to take them out as quickly as possible, either by shooting them dead
or shooting the TNT crates that often sit nearby them.
After a good long trip you will reach the far beach where you can get onto
some horses and ride around on dry land.

===================
The Gunslingers Tragedy
===================
Giver: Enter Chuparosa
-------------------
This ends up being a tutorial, a very oddly placed tutorial. This also causes
you to level up your Dead Eye to level 3. This allows you to choose when you
mark someone so it's not just automatic when you wave over them anymore which
is either a good thing or really bad thing depending on how you play. To test
this out there are a few trials for you.
1. Shoot the three bottles. If you can't do this... just stop playing now.
2. He will scare up some vultures and you must shoot them. Simply wait for the
birds to fly overhead, lock on to at least two of them and fire.
3. Now you must stop the bandits holding up the bank wagon. Ride with Landon
out to where the wagon is and you will see three bandits, one who is holding a
hostage. From a distance use your Dead Eye to lock on to the first two and
then
lock onto the head of the one holding a hostage. Pop off all three of them and
you will be able stop this immediately.
4. Now you have to escort the wagon back to town. When you encounter the
bandit
bunch with the cart shoot the lamp to make the whole thing go up in flames.
Once you pick off any stragglers you can bring the cart into town to end this.

===================
Landon Ricketts Rides Again
===================
Giver: Landon Ricketts
-------------------
When you enter the poker room of the saloon Landon will start up a diaogue
with
you. It seems that Emilio, a local, has had his sister taken by some bandits.
Landon wants you to go with him to rescue her. You can either do so by getting
on the train or just riding to the destination. Obviously the train is the
quicker method, especially if you skip to the destination.

When you arrive you head in with Landon to speak to Carlos, a butcher. He will
help distract the guards so you can sneak in with Landon. Follow the two men,
taking cover when told to do so while you wait for the distraction to ensue.
Carlos will eventually lure the men off with insults which allows you to sneak
in with Landon.

Clearing the cave is a simple matter, especially with Landon at your side. He
basically just charges his way through the enemies, gunning down everybody
that
he sees. Just follow behind him and clean up after him until you get to the
cell they're holding Luisa in. While he sets up the dynamite it's up to you to
guard him. Take out the four men who rush you and he will rescue Luisa from
the
cell with a whole lot of dynamite.
Help him get her outside, fighting through the enemies, but try to save up
your
Dead Eye meter as you'll need it in this next section.

Now you must ride down the canyon, blasting a route through the enemies for
Landon and Luisa. This is what you wanted the Dead Eye for. It can be very
hard
to hit the enemies before they get too close to you or do too much damage from
a far distance. Shoot enemies as soon as you can from as far as you can so
they
don't accidentally hit Luisa and you will get through this just fine.

Missions for de Santa are open now but lets stick with Landon for a bit before
moving on.

===================
Lucky in Love
===================
Giver: Landon Ricketts
-------------------
This is a pretty simple yet tricky mission. You have to play some Texas
Hold'Em
that you will almost always win, or at least tie, and then get into some
duels.
If you're not too good at duels you will get something of a tutorial on it
from
Ricketts before all hell breaks loose but you're mostly on your own here. Make
sure you've saved before doing this.

When you speak to Landon he invites you to join them for a game of poker. You
really can't lose so try to vote high and see if you can rake in some money.
It
is possible to get the High Roller achievement / trophy here. After the second
game you will be called out to duel Mueller.

Try waiting for Mueller to draw first, place your cursor over his head or hand
and wait for the cursor to turn white. When it does use RB / R1 to mark the
target and once your blue bar is full pull the RT / R2 to finish painting. You
will shoot him dead easily.

After this one of Muellers friends pulls a knife on a woman and is holding her
hostage, wanting to duel you like that. You can either shoot him in the head
from the duel or use Dead Eye to do it if you miss. When he dies you will have
to take out four more men before all is finally clear.

===================
The Mexican Wagon Train
===================
Giver: Landon Ricketts
-------------------
Now they're trying to murder people who are simply late for putting out their
taxes? Wow, yeah, they're going off the deep end here folks. To make it even
worse rescuing men for such simple crimes is actually a huge pain in the butt.
This is a very tough mission and it may take a few tries to actually finish
the
bloody thing in one piece.

To begin with you have ten armed men, eight of which are riding horses. Landon
tells you to take out the men on the front carriage but he's just trying to
get
you killed. Ride up behind the men in the rear, activate Dead Eye and take
them
all down. Now you can start working on the first five guys although they will
begin shooting at you. Once they're all dead you can get onto the first prison
cart and start driving it along the yellow line.

As you drive the cart you will find a bridge that is being guarded by a bunch
of enemies. Take out those who rush towards you but the guys in front of the
bridge can be killed easily by sniping the TNT crate near him. There's another
TNT crate that can be blown up to kill the guy on the other side of the
bridge.
Even the boat in the middle of the river can be handled quickly by sniping the
man firing from the turret. You could also just ignore him and speed towards
the mission objective to end the thing.

This finishes off Rickett's quests and opens up missions from Luisa.

===================
Civilization At Any Price
===================
Giver: De Santa
-------------------
Trying to get in to speak to the President you will come across de Santa. He
will give you your missions from here. If you're going to get any information
from de Santa you'll need to help him out with this rebel problem they have
been having. They're trying to lure out a man named Reyes and, if you help,
they will ask the Coronel to help you.

Either climb aboard to ride shotgun with de Santa or get on your own horse. It
is much easier to just climb aboard the wagon and let him bring you to
Chuparosa. If you don't feel like listening to his propaganda then just skip
to
the destination. Upon arrival get on your horse and be ready to escort a train
to its destination in Casa Madruga.

Enemies come from both sides here and they spawn based upon where you are, not
the train, so the easiest way to protect it is to ride a bit ahead of it. This
lets you mvoe to both sides to go after enemies. For the most part this is a
pretty simple task. If you're having problems use Snake Oil or Chewing Tobacco
to keep your Dead Eye up high enough to get them.

Having done one of his quests Luisa's quest line will finally open up.

===================
The Demon Drink
===================
Giver: De Santa
-------------------
When you arrive at the destination marker you will find Vincente being torn a
new one by the Coronel. Instead of actually getting a mission from Vincente
you
will get one from the big man himself. It seems that there are some problems
at
a location known as Tesoro Azul.

On the way there you will be challenged to a race but it doesn't matter who
the
winner is. When you arrive you will be trying to flush out the rebels but they
come out rather quickly to play hide and go shoot you in the face. Many of the
are in the church to your right, along with a sniper on the roof, but more
will
come from the buildings to the left as you move forward. You will have to keep
up the gunfighting for a bit but this is all rather simple.

After the last of the rebels is dead and you learn of the "bonuses" for this
mission you will have to burn the three rebel houses. Grab the molotovs and
follow the onscreen instructions to finish this dirty affair up.

===================
Empty Promises
===================
Giver: De Santa
-------------------
Things are in a furor when you arrive at the fort this time. It seems that
some
rebels have taken over at a fort called Torquemada. You can sleep on this ride
as nothing important is going to occur.

It sounds like all hell has broken loose by the time you arrive. Grab the
sniper rifle from the table, crouch down near it and start taking out the men
up on the ridge. It's very easy to kill them with this powerful weapon so
don't
worry about headshots. Just aim for center mass and blow them away.

After they're all defeated you will have to push up through a valley filled
with enemies. You can use fire bottles to take out a bunch of them if they
group up but otherwise use your repeater or pistol to thin them out before you
even try to get closer to them. When it's down to only a few people you can
feel free to move on in.

When you reach the ruins with the men you will see another sniper rifle
leaning
on a wall. Take that as a hint - get behind that wall and snipe off all of the
enemies you can see. Some of them have very high powered rifles that can kill
you in three shots. Stay back, snipe them off and let the troops move in first
since they're just there to be shot anyways.

Soon you will reach the fort itself and if you still have ammo for your sniper
rifle this is cake. Get behind one of the rocks and focus on shooting the guys
inside of the fort as they're harder for the soldiers to reach. If you leave
the regular enemies to the soldiers while you blow away the snipers this will
end remarkably fast.

Finally they will all be dead and you're told to speak to De Santa. Do so to
see how they treat rebel prisoners, male or female.
===================
Mexican Caesar
===================
Giver: De Santa
-------------------
There's a bunch of guys in this town that need to be shot in the face. Since
you can't do too for it at the moment just climb up into the cart with the
Captain. The captain who doesn't seem to have much respect for Vincente and
his
waiter lover. At this point though it's pretty hard to argue with his opinion
on those ones even if his beliefs aren't similar to yours.

As you near Chuparosa you will be attacked by two groups of three rebels on
horseback. This is pretty difficult if you don't have plenty of Dead Eye since
it's incredibly difficult to hit guys moving this fast without the aid of your
abilities. Use something that fires rapidly if you find yourself needing to do
it without Dead Eye.

A bit further one some men try to shoot down on you from the ridge above but
this is pretty easy to fend off. Shortly after you arrive in Chuparosa you
will
be placed on a gatling gun on the train. You're going to be defending the
train
from rebel attacks so be ready for it.

What follows is just total madness. Enemies will be coming almost constantly
from all sides at all times with only the smallest breaks in between. You'll
need to keep on cranking that gn, blowing away every enemy that attacks. The
only really difficult part is when the enemies start to board the train from
the rear. While they're doing this others will be riding alongside, shooting
at
you in point blank range with shotguns. Try to focus on those guys running by
the sides of the train before dealing with the boarders.

After this you will have a mostly straight path to the army camp and the end
of
this mission.

My Sister's Keeper
===================
Giver: Luisa Fortuna
-------------------
Ride out into the middle of nowhere to find Luisa loading up a cart to help
her
sister get out of Mexico so as to protect her. You'll not find this to be a
very hard mission although it's still quite possible to fail it more than once
due to how hard it is to control the carriage. There aren't a whole lot of
tips
to give for this mission other than to slow down when making hard turns and
don't go off the road at all if you can help it.

===================
Must a Savior Die?
===================
Giver: Luisa Fortuna
-------------------
So it seems that Reyes has been captured and Luisa's home burned down. Now we
get to go to where he's being held with Luisa and try to free him so that she
doesn't do anything stupid like get herself shot trying to rescue him. You get
to sit shotgun for this ride which is a good thing. He's being held in El
Presidio and you need to get inside through a broken down wall.

Climb over the wall and get into the sniping position. From here shoot the
executioner in the back and then start shooting the others. Don't worry about
headshots since all it takes is a body shot for most enemies with the sniper
rifle. Once you've killed the lot of them head down to Reyes and cut him free.
Call for your horse instead of using the nags there, get him on and ride out
of the fort.

A guide approaches you from the right as enemies come from the left. Dispatch
them and then follow him. What you have ahead of you is a short ride with a
few
enemies coming to attack every now and again. It's no biggie.

When he leaves with Luisa (not Laura you idiot) her missions are over but you
can now do missions for Reyes after doing one last mission for De Santa.

===================
Cowards Die Many Times
===================
Giver: De Santa
-------------------
The Coronel is claiming that he has captured the two men you're seeking. He
wishes for you to go to Chuparosa with De Santa to collect them. Supposedly
they were captured and placed in the church until you kill them. During the
ride you will have the opportunity to earn $25 three times by shooting the
most
birds in five shots. But this is just a time killer really.

Ater the incident in the church run towards the home where Reyes is calling to
you from and go up the back stairs. He will free you from your ropes, telling
you to go get your weapons. Run towards the town "square" area to find your
things inside of a chest, get them out and join the gunfight.

Kill enough of the soldiers and Captain Espinoza will become the next target.
Once all the soldiers outside are dead head into the house. A man comes
running
down the stairs with a shotgun so shoot him dead before he tears you a new
one.
Go up the stairs carefully as a guy with a rapid fire pistol is up there in a
great position to wreck you while you try to head upstairs. When he's dead
open
the door to the room, kill the soldier and then kill the Captain.

With them dead a celebration ensues. This is the end of De Santa's quests but
you can now see Luisa or Reyes for more. Follow Luisa if you'd like to get
revenge on De Santa as quickly as possible.

===================
Father Abraham
===================
Giver: Luisa Fortuna
-------------------
Luisa guilt trips you into helping her once again so you get to ride shotgun
with the mouthy broad. After a long, long ride of listening to her preach the
greatness of Reyes you will finally arrive at the destination. She expects you
to tell the men where to plan explosives to destroy the convoy as well as
using
the detonator to blow them all to hell.

Don't anguish over where to place the explosives. About fourty paces from the
bridge start placing the explosives along the road, the way you came. Try to
space them out about ten paces each from each other so that you can blow them
up in sequence, taking out the enemies with ease. Place them farthest first
and closest last to maximize ease of use.

Make your way up onto the hill with the detonator and be patient. Wait until
the first horses reach the first detonator and then blow them in sequence. If
you do it right the first one will take out the first horses, the second one
will get the cart and the last ones will get the horses guarding the second
wagon as they ride forward. Then just shoot everyone that's managed to survive
that whole mess to finish the mission.

===================
Captain De Santa's Downfall
===================
Giver: Luisa Fortuna
-------------------
It seems that we finally get the chance to put down that bastard De Santa
after
his repeated betrayals. Ride with the men all the way to El Sepulcro where he
is supposed to be holding a massacre. Were you expecting another betrayal or
something? Well don't because he's right there begging for a bullet right to
his face for all the crap he's put you through.

When you arrive you'll find De Santa in the middle of making people dig their
own graves, literally. Charge in there with the rebels oldiers and you will
see
De Santa is guarded by six men. Take them out quickly and charge De Santa. Use
your lasso to tangle him up so you can hog tie him. Bring him back to the
cemetary entrancewhere you will be given a decision - kill him and lose honor
or let the rebels do it and keep your honor.

Now you will have to ride to Casa Madrugada to find Escuella. Unfortunately he
isn't waiting for you there, the Mexican Army is. Take cover behind the crates
to the left and take your shots when you see an opening. Be careful of the
whores running around, you don't want to waste ammo on them accidentally. Keep
gunning down the enemies until the last man falls.

John finds out that Escuella hasn't been there for months meaning this was yet
another dead end. it is however the last of Luisa's missions.

===================
The Great Mexican Train Robbery
===================
Giver: Abraham Reyes
-------------------
Reyes wants you to help him rob a train that is carrying valuable supplies as
well as a bucketload of military. This is one of the first missions that can
be
approached from a stealthy viewpoint and it's heavily suggested that you do
so.
If you can sneak around carefully enough this mission is almost laughably
easy.

Ride with Reyes to Chuparosa and wait for him to distract the guards. Sneak
forward towards the train platform, crouching to avoid getting any attention
from the guards. Use the throwing knives Reyes gave you to take out the first
two guards easily. Move around the train station to the right and get the two
that are hanging out on the train before boarding it. Now get the guy on the
roof and the one on the train. With those two down you've mostly taken over
the
train so disconnect the army cars.

Creep forward, using your knives to kill the man on the gatling gun. Get onto
the gun, turn to the left and you will see an enemy camp. It's time to light
them up. First shoot at the man with the gatling gun in the camp. With him
dead
turn to the left and shoot the red TNT crate, this will get rid of most of the
enemies making clean up a breeze. Reinforcements attack from the same
direction
so cut them down as well.

When they're dead red blips appear on the train so we need to be creative.
Jump
off the train, into the enemy camp and get onto their gatling gun which you
can
now use to kill the enemies on the train. Get onto the train now and finish
off
any remaining enemies. You get an update to pull the brake lever so as to
steal
the train so do it. This allows Marston to steal the train itself.

When the train stops head on top of the armored car and plant the dynamite to
blow the hatch. Climb down inside and crack the safe to find $200, a double-
action revolver if you don't already have one and a pardon letter. Return to
Reyes to end the mission.

===================
The Gates of El Presidio
===================
Giver: Abraham Reyes
-------------------
Well that was... an interesting cutscene. Slightly traumatic too but okay
then.
Reyes wants you to ride with him to El Presidio, obviously, as he wants to
bust
back into the prison. This will net you Escuella as well as paving the way for
Reyes to move on to taking over Escalera. This is the best of both worlds.
When you reach El Presidio Reyes informs you that you're going to drive your
wagon into the front door of the fort, jumping out at the last second. The TNT
in the back will blow the door to holy hell which will allow the rebels entry.
This is fairly easy to do all things considered; just keep up the wagons speed
and jump out when the game tells you to.

From here John will have to search the fort while the rebels fight the army.
You will find yourself having to kill the enemies that get in your path but
try
not to bother fighting any more enemies than you have to. You're going to have
to make your way to the barracks which are to the left of the fort entrance,
right there smack in the middle of the enemy kill zone. Be very careful
getting
there, taking out enemies who have the high ground on you.

Once inside you will find Escuella hiding in one of the rooms. Marston
attempts
to confront him but he leaps out through a window to escape. From here you
have
two options - you can either kill him to end that problem or you can use your
lasso to bring him back alive.

Chase him down, using your lasso to pull him off his horse and to the ground.
Hogtie him so you can bring him back to El Presidio. When you bring him back
put him in the jail cell for storage as you're going to have to defend the
fort
from army reinforcements.

Defending the fort is actually really easy. Get onto the cannon with the green
marker on it and use that to blow the hell out of any enemies who come for
you.
It's honestly not that difficult so long as you remember to lead the target
and
that the cannon ball explodes a bit after you fire it so don't expect the shot
to hit automatically.

When that's over you turn over Escuella or his body to the federal agents and
get to hunt Bill Williamson next.

An Appointed Time
===================
Giver: Abraham Reyes
-------------------
For this mission Reyes is hanging out in Escalera. It's time for things to get
down and dirty here in the last mission located in Mexico. Things start fairly
bad with the Mexican Army executing people in the streets of the city. Soon
the
Rebels come in, attacking the soldiers and all hell breaks loose. And it gets
someone really stupid really killed.

Marston will duel the Captain who shot at her. It might seem obvious but don't
try to shoot his gun or you will just get murdered. Go for a headshot on the
bastard and take him down. Cut Reyes free when he's dead. You're informed that
there are prisoners who will fight alongside you so it's time to free them. As
John heads towards the jail more enemies will attack but they're not really
hostiles yet so they're not showing up on your radar. Blindside one of them as
killing them will put the others on your radar.

At the jail three men will run out at you with rifles. It's imperative that
you
kill them with Dead Eye so that they don't take you down in record time. Once
you're in the clear head inside and blast the locks on the cells ot free the
men being held prisoner. Follow them to rejoin Reyes.

What comes next is really hard to give tips for. This vicious uphill battle
against Reyes' men is more about knowing when to take cover and when to take a
shot than it is about anything else. Be as careful as possible with the first
group near the blockade as the soldiers and them get really close on top of
eachother and you don't want to take out friendlies.

Keep going up the hill but take cover as soon as you get near the sand bags.
An
enemy at the top of the hill is on a gatling gun and if you kill him others go
over to man it. You'll need to use your sniper rifle to keep them off of that
while also plucking off other enemies when you get the chance. It won't take
long to clear this but there will likely be many close calls with death.

Clearing the hill means Reyes can set TNT by the gate while you man the
gatling
gun. Use it to blow open the TNT when the men are clear and then fire on the
hapless troops who come running outside. When they retreat inside follow the
rebels into the courtyard so you can continue the killing. There aren't too
many of them here considering how many allies you have so don't stress over
it.
Just take it slow, picking them off whenever there's an easy shot.

Once the courtyard is taken speak to Reyes to find out that reinforcements are
on their way. But with you having the mansion it's possible to run back to man
the gatling gun against them and get some revenge. Kill off the enemies and
return to Reyes. The lot of you rush into the house, chasing after an escaping
Williamson and Allende.

Follow them outside and take out the enemies in the rear coutyard. Call your
horse, taking off after the coach with Reyes. The coach has a trio of men on
horseback, a man on the gatling gun in the back and two men up front to deal
with. It's best to just pop some Moonshine so you can use Dead Eye to wipe out
the lot of them in one or two sweeps. When the last of them die a cutscene
starts up.

You have the choice to kill Allende and Williamson now or not. If you wait for
enough time to pass then he will take the shot on Allende himself. Or if you
shoot Allende Williamson will shoot you. Either way someone is getting shot
and
it's better them than you.

With that done it's time to head north, to Blackwater, where you can find the
Agents that have your family. It's time to go after Dutch.

===================
Bear One Another's Burdens
===================
Giver: Agent Ross
-------------------
Gotta love how casually the clerk lets a heavily armed man up into a
government
building without much questioning. From the get go you can see that this man
Ross is just a real slimeball. He does give you one of the best guns in the
game as a gift so that's really helpful in the least. In the least he lets Mr.
West Dickens go free so that's at least not a total jerk move.

After a nice long ride with these two jerks you will reach the Wreck of the
Serendipity. When you arrive make your way to the upper level of the ship by
going to the far side and then the rear of the boat. Here you will find the
government informant tied to a chair. It's up to Marston to carry him back to
the car as well as fighting off the enemy reinforcements. The Agent is
actually
kind of helpful as he will run forward for a bit but after that it's all up to
you more or less.

If you don't have the Mauser then use the High Power Pistol to cut through the
enemies here. They're not terribly strong and will go down to a pair of shots
to center mass. When you get to the first level look on the docks for a crate
of TNT you can use to take out an enemy or two and then use Dead Eye to take
out the last of them.

Get him back to the car to start the ride back to town. Part way there though
the car breaks down, the motor giving out. Enemies will ride towards the car
as
you and Ross try to hold them off. This section is pretty bad since the gang
will rush your position on horseback. The easiest way to do this is to take
out
your rifle, preferably the one that holds the most ammo, down some moonshine
and be ready. Activate Dead Eye so you can lean out from behind the rock, mark
all of the enemies or their horses and fire away. With the horses out of the
way you can focus on cutting down the guys on foot.

This shouldn't take too long before you're done. You'll ride on back to town
where you can take the injured native to a man named MacDougal. Meeting this
man opens up his quests. For now it's best to set aside Agent Ross' missions
and focus on MacDougal so that you can do his three, then the rest of Ross'
missions to finish this part of the game off.

===================
At Home With Dutch
===================
Giver: Professor MacDougal
-------------------
This guy might seem kind of out of it but once he offers you that syringe you
get a good idea of what you're dealing with. His attempts to speak to Nastas
are pretty damn funny especially considering how Nastas is actually a very
intelligent person. Up ahead you have a bit of a ride so be ready to listen to
the professor ramble.

When the group reaches their destination it will be up to Marston and Nastas
to
climb the cliffs. Run up to him to climb the first cliff - Marston will pull
him up when he reaches the top. Unfortunately when he climbs the next ledge
the
wood collapses, forcing Marston to go around the hard way.

Head left, climbing up the rocks, and then shimmy along the rock wall to reach
the far ledge. Make your way to Nastas so the pair of you can start heading
into the caves. Near the end of the caves the two of you encounter a dead end
blocking your path. As you try to leave some treasure hunters will jump out to
attack Nastas leading to an ambush.

You are told to get out of the caves before the TNT cart rolling your way
blows
up but if you use Dead Eye you can blow it up before it reaches you, sparing
yourself the danger of rushing out into the open. Blow away the three hunters
once you're outside before continuing on your way. Head towards the yellow X
to find the next cliffs to climb.

As you climb the sounds of an animal roaring can be heard. The source is soon
revealed to be a Grizzly on the upper cliffs. He is standing over his Bighorn
kill, growling to keep you away. Take out your Buffalo rifle if you have it
and
a single shot to head will kill it. Climb up the ledges yet more but be
careful
as you go across the mountains since the path is narrow and slippery.

Look carefully when you reach the far end to see another dead Bighorn. The
animal that killed it, a Cougar, is waiting for you to drop down before it
comes out to attack you. It won't appear until you drop down though so you're
going to have to put yourself in harms way. Just watch along the train tracks
so that when it pops its head out you can shoot it off.

Finish climbing the mountain to find a lone scout watching the fortress. You
can either sneak up on him and murder him with your knife or, the better way
to
do this, kill him with a throwing knife. If you throw a knife at him you can
actually use Dead Eye to lock onto his head, making your shot a guaranteed
hit.
With him dead pick up his binoculars and use them to survey the camp. The uber
awesome cowboy gets slapped down again, waking up at the professors.

===================
For Purely Scientific Purposes
===================
Giver: Professor MacDougal
-------------------
Aaaand MacDougal has gone off the deep end. Okay then. The old Professor wants
you and Nastas to bring him to some Natives who have agreed to listen to what
the crazy coot has to say. This... doesn't sound like a good idea in any way
shape and / or form but we have to do so anyways.

The only thing that interrupts your trip is a bear that the idiot MacDougal
startles into attacking you by shooting it. Take out a rifle and give it a
head
shot or two to put the poor beast down and continue on your way.

When you arrive enter the cabin to start up a cutscene where the Professor
manages to really piss off a bunch of already angry Natives. So much so that
a gunfight is all that awaits after snuffing out your poor friend. The
gunfight
that ensues is pretty easy as you start right in cover and all of the enemies
can be taken out quite easily from your position.

Killing the last of them triggers the Professor to run for his life. Follow
suit and get on your horse so the two of you can book it for Blackwater. As
you
ride hard back to town keep your eyes peeled on your left side as that's where
the reinforcements will be coming from. The first group is three riders while
the second has five so be ready for a fight. Dead Eye is your friend.

After taking out the second group you're all clear to get back to Blackwater.
There's one last mission for you from MacDougal.

===================
The Prodigal Son Returns (to Yale)
===================
Giver: Professor MacDougal
-------------------
This chapter begins with a cutscene showing the Professor packing in a rather
agitated state. After having been shot at by the Indians he's more than ready
to get the hell out of the West so as to save his scrawny little neck. He's
quite obviously been abusing the drugs by the look of his arms as well. His
paranoia is well deserved seeing as how Dutch is outside taking shots at him.

Cutscenes will play for a bit until you regain control of John. Climb up onto
the roof where you will find MacDougal held hostage by a bandit. Use Dead Eye
to shoot the man dead. Run over, pick up his rifle if needed and the ammo. On
the three rooftops around you are enemy snipers so you have to take them out
with your own rifle. It's not that hard since there's no rush - just take
cover
if you get hurt and shoot when you have a solid shot. It only takes one hit to
the body to kill them.

Run across the roofs, sliding down ladders until you get into the alleyway.
Get
up on your horse so you can get the Professor out of town. Once again watch to
your left for enemies - the first group contains four of them that come in two
groups of two. The second group is a trio of enemies who come from the right.
The first two are really fast while the last one hangs back, shooting at you
from a distance. Shoot the first two immediately before even trying to deal
with the guy in the back.

Dispatching these three gives you a clear path to the train station where the
Professor bids you goodbye. Now we can return to Agent Ross and focus on
trying
to get our family back. Before returning to him it is suggested that you do
all
of the Stranger missions and buy all of the equipment that you can as it can
be
easy to forget to do so very soon.

===================
Great Men Are Not Always Wise
===================
Giver: Agent Ross
-------------------
Yay, a sniper mission! Ross wants you to hang out on the roof of the Agency
building and snipe Dutch's men when they get out into the open. There's even
sniper rifles and a bucketload of ammo for you to stock up with. Do as he
says;
set up near the wall, watching and waiting for Dutch's men.

The first part of this is exceptionally simple. All you have to do is make
sure
that none of Dutch's men get away. They will run to the left and right, trying
to break for the horses and just generally escape. While they do this some
will
be shooting at you from the windows on the first and second floor and others
will stand in the doorway shooting out at you. Worry about the ones by the
door
first as those are the ones who will try to escape before going after the guys
in the windows.

After this ends you will be on foot running at the bank. Shoot the doors open
by shooting the handle and then barge in. There are three enemies of note here
- two behind the counter and one to the left near the stairs - as well as a
man
holding a hostage in the vault. You need to kill the guy on the left as quick
as you can, get behind the counter through the door, take out the two men and
then use Dead Eye to headshot the man holding the hostage. And you need to do
this very fast as he will kill her eventually.

Thankfully upstairs is far, far simpler. There are three guys hiding up here
behind some desks. They're very easily dispatched so shoot them down and head
on over to the door that the men indicate. A cutscene that plays out rather
tragically but there's nothing you can do about it.

Get on your horse and ride off with Ross and his men, chasing after Dutch.
When
you see the burning car prepare for an ambush. Ross and his men scatter all
about the place while the bandits are hiding in the woods. This part is quite
annoying as the enemies can all see you but finding them in the brush is
really
frigging hard.

As you fight your way up the hill be careful of the Agents who are running all
over the place. If you shoot or bump into one of them with your horse you fail
the mission for assaulting a Sheriff which is a real pain. Stick to cover and
take out the enemies with Dead Eye when the chance presents itself. If you
have
the Carcano rifle you can hang out near the bottom of the hill while sniping
off a bunch of enemies near the top.

At the top of the hill you will have to fight a good six bandits spread out
over the area. Get behind cover and pick them off, using the trees to make
sure
that only one or two can shoot at you at once to avoid being overwhelmed. As
soon as the last of them falls you can head over to speak to the Agents and
finally end this mission.
===================
And You Will Know the Truth
===================
Giver: Agent Ross
-------------------
Ross gives a pretty interesting speech about law and order before starting up
this mission. It's a pretty intruiging thing to listen to especially since he
makes no real apologies for his own dark actions. He's clearly a man who is
a foot in both worlds - law and lawlessness. But he's still a complete jerk.

This is a fairly straightforward mission, simple but yet still managing to be

fairly difficult. There are a few parts in this mission where you can just get
killed in really short order with very little in the ways of warning so you'll
need to be very careful... and expect to die once or twice until you get used
to what's going on.

When you reach the army camp they will set you up to gun down the bandits with
ease. Wait until you see the bandits charging in and just open fire on them.
It's very likely you will need to use some medicine during this fight as the
enemies have very good accuracy and are coming from all sides. Keep shooting
at
them until they start to retreat. This is where the hard part begins.

As you're chasing down the gang enemies will begin attacking you. The basic
ones aren't too dangerous but some of them have TNT. It is imperative you kill
these guys before they get too close or you will find yourself dead before you
know what happened. Each group of enemies that pops up in the field will
likely
have at least one guy with explosives so shoot fast.

Things will quiet down just in time for them to send a cart filled with TNT
folling at you. Use the "Look at Wagon" button to face it and shoot it with
the
gatling gun to blow it up, saving you from a messy death. This segues into the
next, and last, mission in Ross' quest line.

===================
And The Truth Will Set You Free
===================
Giver: Starts immediately after the previous mission
-------------------
You've got a long ride full of talking ahead of you so I hope you enjoy the
sound of hooves and lots of talky talky. This is a pretty straightforward job
once you freaking get there - get into the fort, find Dutch and kill everyone
between you and him. It's actually not even all that hard.

After the gate has been blown run in with the army troops. This hill in front
of you is guarded by a solid twenty men, ten near the bottom and ten more that
come out near the top. Stay behind cover so you don't get torn apart while you
use one of two methods of attack - either shoot them with a sniper rifle from
as far back as you can or get in close and use Dead Eye with a good repeater
to
take them down.
Clearing the second group allows you access to the village. Upon entering you
are told to man the gatling gun so climb onto it and start shooting. Much like
when you were on the truck this is a very simple, direct task. All you will
need is some medicine to heal up and you can pass this part easily. If you're
getting overwhelmed there's some TNT near the rocks and the tent right in
front
of you that you can blow up to dispatch some enemies.

Run over to meet the captain. You'll need to guard two men with the captain,
providing cover fire while they try to blow open the gate. This is pretty easy
to do so long as you have a system for doing it. The enemies will come from
the
two platforms above the gate on either side (or often both). What you will
want
to do is use Dead Eye to kill all three on one side before turning to the
other
side and getting those enemies dead fast enough that you can return to the
first side, getting those enemies. Keep swapping back and forth with a good
rifle to finish this quickly.

Now it's just you, Dutch, his two personal guards and a huge gun. This is a
whole lot easier than it sounds. Take cover behind the boxes near you as soon
as the cutscene ends. Lean up and use Dead Eye to shoot them dead quickly.
When
the second one falls you will get a cutscene that shows what you need to do
next - shoot the lanterns to set the platform on fire.

This chases Dutch off the gatling gun and leaves the two of you to have a last
conversation. He runs off and you will have to give chase. There's no danger
here so just chase after him, through the wooden structure and the mines until
you two have a final, dramatic confrontation on the edge of a cliff.

After the cutscene with Dutch there's nothing left to be said. You're allowed
to go back to your family back at Beecher's Hope. Thus ends this chapter.

===================
The Outlaw's Return
===================
Giver: Abigail
-------------------
When John Marston arrives back at Beecher's Hope his wife doesn't seem all too
happy to see him at first. But things get back to one big happy family after a
bit of talking. It's a big old family reunion although Marton's gruff nature
shows through pretty tellingly when it omes to this supposed Uncle. John sends
his son Jack off to pack because in the morning they're off to Hennigans
Stead.

Ride your silly self all the way back to MacFarlane's Ranch, talking to your
son all the while. Be careful as he loves to ram into you, riding his horse
all
up in your junk. It's a long leisurely ride to the ranch with not a whole lot
to get in your way.

After a pleasant reunion with Ms. Bonnie you will be herding cattle back to
your home. There's nothing difficult about this as these cows are very well
behaved, not like the little snots from the earlier missions. Bring them back
to your home, stopping only to kill the six cattle rustlers who attack you.

Returning them home gives you access to your Rancher's Clothing as well as the
ability to save at your house. If you search the attic, gotten to by going up
the ladder in the pantry, you will find a chest. Open it to unlock an Avatar
Award, a T-shirt with the Rockstar emblem on it. Now you have missions you can
do for everyone in the family so we will go through them in order.

===================
Pestilence
===================
Giver: Abigail
-------------------
Trying this mission for the first time can be really annoying. You like won't
have any idea what you're really trying to do and when you finally manage to
figure out what needs to be done you fail the bloody thing. So don't get too
worked up if this one manages to be something of a nuisance.

Shoot at the crows to chase them off of the silo. Now enter Dead Eye with the
Evans Repeater and mark as many of the birds as you possibly can before the
ability ends. You need to kill about twelve or thirteen of them quickly to get
them to leave. While you're doing that they will try to fly into the entrance
of the silo so you'll need to make sure you stop that from happening.

Do this enough and the crows will fly off rather quickly.

===================
Old Friends, New Problems
===================
Giver: Abigail
-------------------
Abigail gets a little pissy over you getting a letter from Bonnie MacFarlane.
She asks that you get her some Corn sacks due to emergency in the area so you
will have to get those sacks to her in a rush. After talking to your wife some
more she decides to come along.

You're going to have to get to MacFarlane's Ranch in a time limit. However

said
limit is actually really generous and gives you more than enough time to get
to
the Ranch even if you end up going off road accidetnally. Just don't rush too
much and wind up horribly off the road you need to take and you can get there
with more than enough time left ont he clock.

After the cutscenes end you have a nice leisurely ride back to your farm with
the wife ahead of you. That's also the last of her missions.

===================
John Marston & Son
===================
Giver: Jack
-------------------
Now it's time to take the boy elk hunting! This is a very simple mission that
doesn't require very much effort from you. All you will be doing is following
the dog as it leads you to elk and then taking them out with your sons help.
The only thing that bears note is that you have to let him take out one of
them
and then skin it. Otherwise this is all stuff you've done many times before.

Kill the elk, skin the things and sell the meat at Manzanita before going
home.
Simple as that.

===================
Wolves, Dogs, and Sons
===================
Giver: Jack
-------------------
Yet another really simple mission - all you're doing this time is killing two
packs of wolves with the boy. That's it. There's no real need to tell you what
to do here as it should all be second nature by now. Kill the wolves, follow
Rufus to the second pack, kill them and then return home.

===================
Spare the Love, Spoil the Child
===================
Giver: Jack
-------------------
While trying to smoke peacefully John is interrupted by Uncle. It seems that
Jack has run off to try handling a grizzly all by himself! The fool is going
to
be in desperate need of a rescue by this point so you're going to have to hoof
it over there as quickliy as you can to protect him from himself.

Follow Rufus up onto the top of Nekoti Rock along the trail. At the top John
will dismount and see the bear shortly before it charges him. If you've got
the
Buffalo Rifle take aim at his face and one shot can drop it. Otherwise you're
going to have to use Dead Eye to fill the pecker up with a whole bunch of
ammo,
taking him down before he gets to you and mauls you too.

John pulls Jack up onto the horse and you get to ride the two of them back to
the farm. Get him back to the farm to tie up the last of his missions.

===================
By Sweat and Toil
===================
Giver: Uncle
-------------------
John and Uncle are going to take the cows out to pasture. This is a pretty
simple one, like when you and your son get the herd to begin with, but he's
not
quite as good at leading them as Jack was. Expect to round up stragglers as
you
go along due to this.

The only thing that complicates this is that part way along the herding some
bandits will attack a train. This causes your herd to stamped so speed in
front
of them, firing your gun to prevent them from getting run over by the train.

Now you have two options. John can either round up the herd, ignoring the
attack on the train, or he can go after those bandits. In the end the only
main
difference between the two options is that if you help them out on the train
you can speak to the engineer and listen to the thanks of the passengers which
nets you a small honor award.

Whichever decision you make head back to the herd, round everyone up and keep
driving them out to pasture.

===================
A Continual Feast
===================
Giver: Uncle
-------------------
Uncle has spotted some mustangs up on the ridge and he's thinking that the two
of you should go round them up. It'll help with the farms money problems in
the
least so you need to get a couple of them. Ride out with Uncle and do the same
thing you did with Bonnie all the way back yonder, capturing a trio of horses
to bring back to the farm.

===================
The Last Enemy That Shall Be Destroyed
===================
Giver: Jack (Game Finale)
-------------------
Well this is it - this is what the games been building up to.

Jack is working in the little barn, using his tools to smooth out a piece of
wood. They're enjoying something of a father-son moment, talking about hunting
and the future. As they're talking you can see Uncle outside using his scope
to
look at something in the distance. Things are about to get really bad.

To start with a large group of U.S. Soldiers attacking you. Take cover behind
the wagon and start shooting at them. Get the guys on the sides first as they
can flank you pretty easily then go after the ones who are further away. This
part is pretty easy so don't worry about it too much.

When the last of them falls return to the house for a short cutscene. After it
ends take cover on the porch, watching the enemies as they come. The first
pass
takes the enemies around the house and they will circle you in with more
coming
to replace some of those who fall. This is tough since it's easy to find
bullets hitting you from all directions. Try to take cover against the porch
near the crates, leaning there so that your protected from two sides at least.
You can use TNT or molotovs if they group together but Dead Eye serves just as
well for getting rid of them.
Another cutscene will play, leaving you outside behind a rock with Abigail and
Jack. Take out your Carcano so you can snipe the soldiers as they come over
the
hill, guns blazing. Killing enough of them triggers the next stage - you have
to protect the two of them as they run for the barn.

Now the game suggests you stay on foot or climb the silo but climbing the silo
is essentially a death sentence for your family. There are too many spots you
can't hit enemies from and sniping the soldiers is too slow. Get out your best
repeater and stand your ground. Keep popping snake oil, tonics and all of your
chewing tobacoo to keep up with the enemies as they come. Gun them down until
you're told to get into the barn.

All that's left is the end. Walk out the door, use your Dead Eye to kill as
many enemies as you can before the invevitable occurs.

The story doesn't end here though. See the "Remember my Family" Stranger
mission for the epilogue quest that actually gets the credits rolling.

=========================================================
3. Side Missions
=========================================================
Night Watch
===================
Locations: MacFarlane Ranch, Chuparosa, Blackwater
-------------------
At night you can entertain yourself by patrolling a location with a dog. These
jobs are indicated by the crescent moon icon on your map. They're pretty
simple
in reality - walk around with the doggy and get rid of any undesirables the
two
of you come across. The main difference is what you run across and how you
decide to handle it. There are various crimes:

- A fist fight.
- Horse theif.
- An attempted break-in.
- A robbery.
- A hold-up.
- A gang harassing a lone woman.

If you choose to subdue the men by beating them up or shooting your gun in the
air above them then they will often run off and you gain honor. Of course if
you take the quick way through this and just shoot them you still complete the
mission but you gain no honor for it. You'll also earn a good bit less money
for your efforts so keep that in mind.

You only need to do this once for each location to get credit towards 100%

===================
Horse Breaking Jobs
===================
Location: Ridgewood Farm, Chuparosa
-------------------
These require almost no effort to actually complete. Go to the location and
just break-in one of the horses. You'll be taught how to do this doing
missions
for Miss Bonnie early in the game so just keep your balance and ride the pony!
Uh, I mean ride the horsey. You only need to complete one in each location to
gain credit towards 100%

===================
Gang Hideouts
===================
Started: Clear the hideout as part of the main story and then wait 24 hours.
-------------------
When you complete a gang hideout during the storyline you will be able to come
back after 24 hours to find a new mission that can be undertaken there. These
are all pretty simple - speak to the person indicated on your map, kill all of
the bandits and complete the objective. There are seven hideouts, five in the
United States and two in Mexico.

United States Hideouts

- Pike's Basin
- Twin Rocks
- Tumbleweed
- Gaptooth Breach
- Fort Mercer

Mexico Hideouts
- Nosalida
- Tesoro Azul

None of these are terribly hard to complete and don't really call for any sort
of special strategies to clear. After completing the main game you wil be able
to unlock an outfit, the U.S. Marshall's Uniform, by clearing the five U.S.
hideouts within 24 in-game hours.

Master Hunter Challenge
===================
Started: Kill and skin a coyote.
-------------------
For the most part these Master Hunter Challenges are easy but made difficult
by how damn frustrating it can be to find the animal you're looking for. Try
your best to use the map that came with the game, or the one in the menus, to
find them. They're clearly labeled on them and those are the general areas to
located them although sometimes you will run across them outside of the area
that they're supposed to roam. Listed below are the more troublesome legs of
this journey along with tips on how to clear them.

MH 5: Kill 2 cougars with your melee knife and collect 2 cougar pelts.
Animal Locations: Try going north of MacFarlane Ranch and searching around.
This is one of the harder challenges in the game and requires some very quick
actions on your part. People have succeed with various strategies:
- Lasso the cougar and then rush in to stab it twice.
- Wait for it to charge, roll out of the way and then chase after it. As
they turn slowly you can try to stay behind them stabbing their flank.
- Ride around on your horse and try to chase after them. This will often
cause them to miss their attack on your horse and get stuck partially
under it. Quickly take your knife and stab them.
- NOTE: Regardless of how you do it bring along medicine, just in case.

MH 8: Kill a bear with your melee knife.

Animal Locations: Look at your map, they're located in Tall Trees.
This is actually surprisingly easy. The hard part is finding just the one bear
since they usually move in pairs, in the least. When you do locate it shoot it
once in the face with the Henry Repeater and then stab him. All it will take
is
those two hits to put the big boy down. Just remember to bring medicine and be
ready to use it from the ground as he knocks you around.

MH 9: Search Ojo Del Diablo for "Khan", the legendary jaguar and collect his
pelt.
Animal Location: Ojo Del Diablo
Killing Khan is actually pretty simple as jaguars are basically just a bit
faster than your average cougar. Finding the pecker is actually the hard part.
Look at your map for Ojo Del Diablo and make a marker to the left of the
words,
on the other side of the road. In this area Khan will often spawn after you
run
around for a little bit. Shoot him down, skin him and move on with your day.

MH 10: Search Aurora Basin, Stillwater Creek and Nekoti Rock for "Lobo", the
legendary wolf, "Gordo", the legendary boar and "Brumas", the legendary
bear and collect their pelts.
Animal Locations: All over the place.
For this one you're going to have some fun trying to track these three down so
we will cover them one at a time.
- Gordo: Found in Stillwater Creek. He's most often hanging out just south
of
the words Mason's Bridge on your map. He's a tough thing and takes
a
few shots to bring down. Get his hide and get out of there before a
cougar or Gordo's boar buddies turn you into paste.
- Lobo: Found in Aurora Basin. Look on your map for the words Aurora Basin -
just north of them is a crossroads. Search around that area to find
Lobo but stay alert. He's really freaking fast and if you don't
shoot
him quickly he can kill you with ease. One shot of the Bolt Action
will handle him.
- Brumas: Found atop Nekoti Rock. Head over to the words Nekoti Rock on your
map and head up the trail there. Here you will find the bear
moving
around, waiting for you to show up as dinner. One shot to the head
with the Buffalo Rifle will end this as well as wrapping up the
final stage of your Master Hunter Challenge.

===================
Survivalist Challenge
===================
Started: Pick your first Wild Feverfew
-------------------
All you need to do is pick a varying number of a particular type of plant in
the wilds. Listed below are all of the locations of each of the types of plant
so that you can find them easily.
*NOTE: To make this easier buy a Survivalist Map and use it only when you're
about to dedicate yourself to finding these plants. The map lasts ten
minutes, twenty when you reach Survivalist level 5 so you should be
able
to finish one, possibly two challenges per map.

- Wild Feverfew: Hennigan's Stead, Cholla Springs

- Desert Sage: Gaptooth Ridge, Northern Cholla Springs
- Red Sage: Gaptooth Ridge, Rio Bravo
- Prickly Pears: Punta Orgulla
- Wolly Blue Curls: Perdido
- Butterfly Weeds: Diez Coronoas
- Hummingbird Sage: Tall Trees
- Prairie Poppies: Great Plains
- Golden Currants: Beecher's Hope, Great Plains
- Violet Snowdrops: Snowy areas of Tall Trees

===================
Sharpshooter Challenge
===================
Started: Kill a flying bird
-------------------
Most people will start this when someone challenges them to shoot some birds
on a bet, a random event in the wilderness, but you can start it by shooting
at
any flying bird. By and large these are all incredibly simple but some tips
can
be given to help make these a bit easier otherwise some of them can become all
too time consuming to complete.

SS 3: To make this one a good deal easier just ride around the wildnerness and
shoot at the Coyote's from horseback. This prevents them from getting to
you. If you keep moving they won't be able to kill your horse either.

SS 4: Don't even try to get into the train. Simply wait for it to head to a
location you can get to it from, like Armadillo, and then climb on top
of
the train by going up one of the ladders. Stand on the raised middle on
top of the train car, crouch down and wait to see some birds. As you
ride
around on the train start shooting at any birds you see with Dead Eye,
taking out the five of them as you go to finish this.

SS 6: While this can easily be done by just shooting at random people the best
way to get this is to go to Mexico. A sombrero is so much easier to
shoot
off of the head of enemies - either shoot at random people on the street
or do it in a duel. Don't lock on with Dead Eye though, just free aim it
with Dead Eye and shoot the side of their sombrero to pop it off.

SS 8: This is pretty difficult to do since it's not very clear. It almost

makes
it sound like you need to do it at the same time or something. To do
this
go to Chuparosa in Mexico and climb to the top of the Alcalde, going up
the ladder to the balcony. Shoot one of the random people on the street
to prompt the guards to come after you. Now slow down time with Dead Eye
and take the gun out of someones hand with a weak but accurate pistol
before shooting his hat off. Do this twice to complete this challenge.

SS 9: The easiest way to do this is to just go bird hunting. Head out into the
middle of nowhere and take out your gun. Be sure to hold down the button
to aim your gun so he doesn't put it away (this reloads your weapon) and
just start shooting every bird or animal that runs by.

SS 10: It might sound hard but it's actually really easy. Go to one of the
gang hideouts, take out an accurate but weak pistol and shoot pistols
out of enemy hands. Shoot the gun out of their hand, let them pick the
thing up and then do it again. Make sure he doesn't put the weapon away
though or it will void your progress.

===================
Treasure Hunter Challenge
===================
Started: Find a Treasure Hunter being harassed by bandits and help him. This
is
a random event so simply ride around to trigger it.
-------------------
Once you've gotten the treasure map all you need to do is find the treasure.
It
is much harder than you might think since the clues are all pretty vague. This
will attempt to guide you to each treasure.

Hidden Treasure 1: Your tip points towards the hanging rock so head on over
that way. Go to the north side of the rocks and look for the largest boulder,
the treasure is hidden in its shadow through a narrow path. When you find the
pile of rocks examine them to find Rhodes Gold.

Hidden Treasure 2: This one is very hard to get to even when you know what you
are looking for. Open your map and look for Rio Bravo. Now zoom out and look
to
the southeast for a cliffside trail east of Fort Mercer that goes towards the
water. Follow that path until you reach the top of the hills where you find a
camp near Del Lobo Rock (south-west of Rio Del Lobo). From the camp go to the
right, towards the cliff and look over and to the left. The treasure is under
the overhanging rock, on a ledge between it and the shoreline. Make your way
over to the hanging rock and slide down towards the circular pile of stones to
find your treasure.

Hidden Treasure 3: Compared to that last one this one is a breeze. You need to
go to Tumbleweed. Head on over there, clear out the Gang Hideout and then go
into the mansions basement. Here you will find the treasure chest against a
wall across from the entrance.

Hidden Treasure 4: This requires you to reach Mexico before it can be done.
When you arrive look at the map near Chuparosa and you will see a goat. To the
northeast of that, along the small trail that runs near the river, is a tree
with skulls adorning it. Look to the north where a stone wall right by the
river sits - on the side that faces the river you can find the stone pile.

Hidden Treasure 5: Well this one is really easy to get... almost disappointing
in how easy it is to get. Go to Irish's cabin along the Rio to start. Look at
the map and you will see a three prong cacti to the south, head over that way.
You will see a pair of strange rock structures here. Climb the larger one all
the way to the top to find a pile of rocks. There's also a treasure chest in
the base of this pile so that helps identify it.

Hidden Treasure 6: This is easy too! Head south from Chuparosa until you reach
the area called Ojo del Diablo. Look just to the left of the road, near the
dashed line, underneath the overhanging rock. On the upper level here you will
find the stones you're looking for.

Hidden Treasure 7: Your next destination is to the west of Roca de Madera and
north of Agave Viejo. Here there is a tall mountain that you can climb by
going all the way to the northeast along them,climbing to the top and then
going to the southwest along a narrow ledge. It's easy enough once you figure
out where you need to go. Find the pile of rocks at the end of the path and
it's time to move on to the next one.

Hidden Treasure 8: You will have to wait until the final area opens up before
you can get to this. When it does look on your map for Beecher's Hope. To the
right of this is a crossroads and beyond that the words "Broken Tree". Set a
marker to the northwest, just a bit off the road. Here you will find a tree
that looks to be split by lightning. Look in between the two low stone walls
nearby to find this treasure.

Hidden Treasure 9: The last one is surprisingly easy to find once you figure
out where to even look. Open your map and look at the words Tall Trees on it.
Directly to the north of that you will see a road that goes across the map,
east to west. There's a small, narrow road that goes north into the mountains
off of this path. You need to head up along that path to find a small cave you
can duck into. Inside you will find a chest and the final rock pile.

Getting to level ten nets you the Treasure Hunter's Satchel. This carries
twice
the amount of consumables which, considering how strong enemies are, means you
can carry a whole lot of medicine.

===================
Bounty Hunting
===================
Locations: Most cities and settlements
-------------------
Anyone going for 100% in this game will be going after the bounties. There are
numerous targets to be captured, some of whom don't have their identity shown
to you when you accept the bounty. To attain 100% you don't actually have to
capture every single bounty target. No, you just have to capture one person in
each of the twenty locations that they hide in. A list of all of the locations
is found below - check off each one as you capture someone there and you will
be well on your way to 100% completion.

- The Hanging Rock

- Rattlesnake Hollow
- Mercer Station
- Rio Del Lobo
- Silent Stead
- Repentence Rock
- Brittlebrush Trawl
- Mescalero
- Planta Grande
- Sepulcro
- Barranca
- Ojo Del Diablo
- Rancho Polvo
- Primera Quebrada
- Laguna Borrego
- Hendidura Grande
- Aurora Basin
- Tanner's Reach
- Bearclaw Camp
- Nekoti Rock

When hunting down the bounties you will have two ways you can proceed, either
trying to bring them in dead or alive. Regardless of what you plan to do with
your target you're going to have to get through his gang to handle him. Be
very
careful when dealing with them as it's quite easy to get overwhelmed.

One of the best ways to handle the gang is to get your rifle ready, sneak in
as
close as you can and use Dead Eye to pick off a bunch of them before they're
even aware of you being there. Since most guys are guarded by four to six of
their cronies it will really help to thin out the herd. For the most part you
should really be able to run in shooting and take them all out before you get
into too much trouble. Sniper rifles can help make this even easier but you
don't get one of those for the longest time so that's not a viable strategy.

As the bounty target sees his posse getting wiped out he will often attempt to
run away from you. Normally he will jump onto a horse and try to speed off
away
from the area. You can solve this by either killing the horses ahead of time
or
just shooting his horse out from underneath him.

Regardless of how you stop him once he's been stopped you can choose how to
handle him. Either put a bullet in him, taking his hand for proof that you
have
killed him, or use your lasso to bring him back alive. If you're trying to
take
him back alive get him with the lasso, hogtie him and put him onto your horse
to prepare him for the long ride back home.

As you carry him to the jail indicated on your map you will face opposition
from his cronies. For the early part of the game they will only come out to
attack you if you bring the bounty back alive but later on they will come
after
you solely for revenge. It's best to not even try to outrun them - take them
down as soon as you have room to maneuver. The best way to do so is to get
your
horse up to top speed and then hold the button down. Look behind you, take out
your gun and use Dead Eye to take them down or just kill their horses so you
can outrun them.

Regardless of how you do it bringing a body back gets you more money and some
honor so make your decisions appropriately. It's almost not worth it trying to
bring them back alive in the earlier missions but later on it's a very good
idea since you get a whole lot of money from it.

4. Strangers
=========================================================
Let No Man Put Asunder
===================
Unlocked: Complete Obstacles in our Path
Location: Sitting near destroyed homes northwest of Coot's Chapel
-------------------
While riding around near Coot's Chapel you will see a woman dressed entirely
in
white clothes. Speak to her and she will tell you that she's supposed to get
married and you need to find her husband. Your only clue as to his location is
the musicians in the saloon so head on over that way and speak to the man at
the table. You can either pay him five dollars for the information or you can
go handle his wife for him.

The easiest way to handle this, and the cheapest, is to go talk to his wife.
Use your lasso to hogtie her after speaking to her. Then simply bring her back
to the musician to find out where Pete is - some place called Odd Fellows
Rest.
That's not sounding promising.

Make your way to the northwest of Armadillo to find this location. It's as you
would expect it to be, a graveyard where old Pete is buried. So much for the
poor lady getting married.

===================
I Know You
===================
Unlocked: Complete A Tempest Looms
Location: Cliffs south of the "M" in Mescalero on Map
NOTE: Must be completed before finishing the main storyline.
-------------------
This strange man seems to know a good deal about you and your previous actions
in life. He asks that you go to his friend in a saloon in Thieves' Landing and
advise him on whether or not to cheat on his wife.
1. Give him money to encourage him.
2. Discourage him from doing it.
The only difference is whether you gain or lose 20 honor.

Part 2: You have to wait until you reach Mexico to continue this one. You can
find him on a plateau southwest of El Matadero. He tells John that an old nun
is bringing a sum of money to the bank from the monastary and John can either
help her get it there safely or rob her himself. Donate $10 to her to start up
the dialogue with her where John debates about the Lord with the old nun or
you
can just rob the old biddy at gun point. Do as you like.

Part 3: You have to wait until you can make your way to the north to find this
guy again. He claims to be an accountant but that he doesn't know his name.
John tries to get rather... shooty about the issue but it doesn't work out
very
well and it's actually a bit creepy.

===================
American Appetites
===================
Unlocked: Complete Political Realities in Armadillo
Location: Just outside the Sheriff's Office
-------------------
Part 1: A grieving mother has lost her son to some hill people. She begs you
to
search out by the Hanging Rock for any traces of her boy. Simply follow the
roads until you reach an area near the big tree that looks like the one in the
Ring and then head off-road towards the purple circle. When you get there
inspect the blood stain on the ground to finish this leg of the mission.

Part 2: After a bit of time you will want to make your way to the Sheriff's
office. This time you will find a man sitting outside crying over his wife who
has gone missing by the Hanging Rock. Seeing a pattern here? Go back to
roughly
the same area and examine the blood stain. The game says it sees no clues as
to
her whereabouts but that dessicated feminine arm is a good start.

Part 3: Once again wait for some time before going back to the Sherrif's. Here
you will find a mans wife crying for her husband who has gone missing up in
the
hills. Head back to the exact same area to find an injured man this time - we
have a survivor! He explains what happened and asks you to find the man who
injured him. Grab your lasso and chase down the blue dot until you can lasso
him up. Once he's hogtied return him to the injured man to find out that the
first guy is the troublemaker. You now have two options:

1. Kill the cannibal and rescue the man to gain 50 honor.

2. Leave the cannibal to his meal and lose 50 honor.

Either way the quest is over.

===================
Water and Honesty
===================
Unlocked: Complete Political Realities in Armadillo
Location: A small campsite east out of Armadillo, up on a small cliff
-------------------
A man by the name of McAllister wants you to convince a man named Coot to sell
his property to you real cheap so that he can exploit the water underneath it.
When you find the man you'll realize he's an ornery old bastard who wants a
laughably ridiculous $200 for his rundown land. You've got three options now:

1. You can pay his $200. When you return to McAllister he will give you your
$200 back as well as your reward money.
2. Hogtie him. This lets you steal the deed but McAllister disapproves.
3. Kill the old man. You get to not have to raise the $200 but you get a bit
of
a cold reception from McAllister.

===================
Jenny's Faith
===================
Unlocked: Complete This is Armadillo, USA
Location: West of Odd Fellow's Rest
-------------------
This strange, strange girl is sitting out in the middle of nowhere likely
dying
out under the sun. Jenny isn't willing to come back to town with you but you
can't just leave her out there in the middle of the wilderness to die. You
need
to give her some medicine to help cure what ails her but don't expect any sort
of thanks for your troubles - this just affirms her insane ramblings about
God.
Poor girl. At least you gain some Fame and Honor.

Also, if you're feeling like a jerk, you can simply kill her now and get your
medicine back.

===================
Funny Man
===================
Unlocked: Complete the mission "Exhuming and Other Fine Hobbies"
Location: Inside of the Benedict Point train station
-------------------
Part 1: This doesn't require much effort on your part, just talk to the man to
meet him. That's all there is to the first part of this - listening to him
talk
about what he's doing in the area. You will meet him again though.

Part 2: Unlocks after completing "Man is Born Unto Trouble". Head back into
the
mine to find him hogtied on the ground behind some crates. After freeing him
you can leave the mine through the main entrance, there shouldn't be any more
bandits out and about.

Part 3: After the previous rescue you will have to rescue him from the Pike's
Basin, in the gang hideout. You don't actually have to complete the hideout
though; just cut him free and get out of there.

Part 4: This is doable after finishing "The Demon Drink" mission. The poor guy
is up on the second floor of the church guarded by a priest with a rather big
rifle so take them out carefuly. Once he's dead go up the ladder near the back
of the church and cut him loose. This ends the quest finally.

===================
Who Are You to Judge?
===================
Unlocked: Complte the mision "Liars, Cheats and Other Proud Americans"
Location: Rathskeller Fork stables
-------------------
Jeb is saying that some bandits stole his lost love. You'll have to make your
way to Tumbleweed, the same place where you fought to release Bonnie. It seems
that Jeb's love is... named Lucy. And it's not the woman that's standing with
the horse. Lead the lady back to Jeb to finish this mission off. And then it's
time to bust out the brain bleach.

===================
Lights, Camera, Action
===================
Unlocked: Complete the mission "The Sport of Kings, and Liars".
Location: Schoolhouse / movie theater in Armadillo
-------------------
This wannabe director, MacKenna, wants you to find a man who owns a ranch
nearby and beat him at a game of Liar's Dice in Thieves' Landing. There's also
some fool named Spatchcock who was trained as a movie gunslinger and is now
running around thinking he's the real deal. You need to attend to both of
these
problems for him.

Make your way to Thieves' Landing and enter the saloon. The man with the deed
will often be the only one sitting at the Liar's Dice table. Winning in these
is actually pretty easy - always tell the truth when possible. So long as you
do so the computer will call your bluff, lose a die and then have to try it
all
over again. Just keep that up until you win. If you play this out right this
is a good place to win the "No Dice" achievement / trophy.

Next find Spatchcock by traveling to Benedict Point and basically challenging

him to a duel. When he goes to draw shoot him in the right arm to disarm him.
With that done return to MacKenna with the good news and deed.

Part 2: This will continue after you reach the northern land. Find the Pacific
RR Camp in Tall Trees and look for Mr. MacKenna whittling away at some wood.
It
seems things didn't work out as he'd hoped but at least he has his health!

===================
Flowers for a Lady
===================
Unlocked:Complete the mission "New Friends, Old Problems"
Location: Southwest of Thieves' Landing
-------------------
A rather simple and sweet mission - Billy just wants you to bring him three
each of Wild Feverfew, Desert Sage and Red Sage. When you have the flowers in
question bring them to him and meet his wife Annabel. It's... a traumatic
meeting if I've ever had one.

===================
California
===================
Unlocked: Complete "Women and Cattle"
Location: Southeast of Gaptooth Breach, far north of the Scratching Post
-------------------
When you reach the right location you will find a man sitting in the shadow of
a rock playing a harmonica. This man, Sam Odessa, seems to be rather out of it
as he tries to reach California. John suggests that he make his way back to
Benedict Point and catch a ride instead of meandering around in Gaptooth.

You can find Sam a few days later near Gaptooth Ridge, to the left of those
words on the in-game map, acting fairly strange. John tries to be helpful but
he really seems like he's in his own little world. It is almost like he's very
poorly trying to hide something. Or a really, really cracked out man on some
very powerful opiates.

The next time you need to find Sam is when he's near Gaptooth Ridge. Go there
and you will find Sam half-way to death. After a bit of talking he will run
off
after waving a gun at you. Clearly he's lost his faculties.

Finding Sam the last time reveals that he hasn't handled this whole "overly
exposed to the sun thing very well. He's to the south of Tumbleweed this time.
When you arrive search the body there to find a letter - this must be taken to
Armadillo to finish the quest. Simply deliver it to the passenger & freight
house to see that it's delivered to his family.

===================
Daedalus and Son
===================
Unlocked: Complete the mission " "
Location: Southwest of Casa Madruga
-------------------
It seems that this crazy kook actually plans on trying to fly. How insane. He
needs feathers, beaver fat and red sage. It's really easy to get the feathers
and the Red Sage simply requires a bit of searching around Rio Bravo but
trying
to get the Beaver fur can be a pain in the butt. They're most commonly found
near Tall Trees, up in the north, but that doesn't unlock until later. You CAN
find them just along the river north of MacFarlanes Ranch but it's incredibly
rare so it's not really worth it to bother.

Once you're on the far side of the river search around near the Pacific Union
R.R. Station to find these guys most reliably. If you just keep going back and
forth along that area you should find them all eventually. Now gather up the
other components so you can return to the inventor for your reward.

===================
Eva in Peril
===================
Unlocked: Complete "Unlucky in Love"
Location: Behind the whore house in Casa Madruga
-------------------
This is pretty easily noticed thanks to the sounds of a woman in distress.
Head
on over and break up the fight. When you've got $200 to spare you can buy Eva
from the scumbag, buying her freedom. She runs off to go to Las Hermanas to
seek sanctuary with the sisters of the church there. You'll need to head on
over that way after a few days have passed to check on her.

After a few days head to the church to find out that Eva left with some man
after arriving. They're going to El Sepulcro which... is bad. Head on over to
the graveyard to find him digging up poor Eva's corpse. Seems that he killed
her and is now digging up her body for Lord only knows what purpose. It's time
to put this dog down. Duel him, killing him as ruthlessly as possible, before
looting his body to get your money back.

===================
Poppycock
===================
Unlocked: Complete the mission "Civilization, At Any Price"
Location: Inside the Alcalade in Chuparosa
-------------------
The racist Brit here wants you to retrieve a pakcage from Nosalida and bring
it
to El Matadero. This sounds too simple... Of course it is. This is an enemy
hideout and you're going to have to clear it out. Refer to the Nosalida
hideout
for more information on completing this one. When it' clear go to the docks
and
open the chest to get the package.

Bring the package to the man just outside of the large house near the rear of
El Matadero. He gives you $1,000 in payment... it's enough to make you think
about whether you should give it to him or not. If you want to keep it you
will
have to kill him. Doing so causes you to lose honor and become wanted, as you
might expect, while giving it to him gives you a hefty sum of honor.

===================
Love is the Opiate
===================
Unlocked:
Location: El Matadero slaughterhouse
-------------------
This man Zhou is being held as an indentured slave so that he can return to
his
beloved and marry her back home in Shanghai. He wants a white stallion to let
the man out of his contract. This might sound like it's going to be hard but
it
really isn't. The white horse, the Hungarian Half-Bred, is actually fairly
common in the Mexico area. Search arond near where the horse markings are on
your map and you will find it eventually. Return to the slaughterhouse with it
and the man will free Zhou from his contract.

Part 2: A good bit after you finish this quest you will find Zhou at the train
platform in Chuparosa. It seems that he is something of a drunk and that he's
still in Mexico since he's too busy being wasted to go home. If he even has a
beloved anymore. Well that ends that I suppose.

===================
Aztec Gold
===================
Unlocked: Complete "Must a Saviour Die?"
Location: Northwest area of Sidewinder Gulch
-------------------
Apparently this man, Basilio, is hunting down some treasure left behind by his
great-great grandfather. He would like your help in finding the treasure in
exchange for a reward. First things first - you will have to find the missing
pieces of the map.

The first piece is right nearby where you two were speaking. Just head up the
road nearby and search along the ledge to find it. The second piece is to the
far south on the map, northeast of the words Primera Quebrada on your in-game
map. Here there is a wrecked house, the rock pile is inside of the house. Make
your way to the next piece which is located near El Matadero and Casa Madruga.

With the final piece in hand return to Basilio in El Matadero. Giving the map
over to him causes him to run into the caves you rescued Luisa from.

===================
American Lobbyist
===================
Unlocked: Complete the mission "An Appointed Time"
Location: Gazebo outside government building in Blackwater
-------------------
This is a pretty simple mission - bring someone photos of them doing naughty
things with a local prostitute and blackmail them to stop them spreading
"lies"
about the governer. Make your way to the bank and speak to the man there. The
pictures speak for themselves so return to the quest giver for your reward.

===================
The Wronged Woman
===================
Unlocked: Complete the mission "An Appointed Time"
Location: Church just northwest of Blackwater
-------------------
When you enter the church you will see a pregnant woman before the altar and
praying as she cries a bit. She has quite the sob story about how she worked
as
a nanny for the man who knocked her up and that she was kicked out when he got
her pregnant. Head on over to the Saloon to find Harold leaning on the bar.
When you speak to him he claims to have no idea who you're talking about and
he
takes exception to your comments. A duel ensues, ending with him dead. Loot
his
body for money and bring it back to Clara at the church.

After a few days head to the Blackwater cemetary, just near the church, to
look
for the funeral for this Harold. Things didn't quite turn out as you'd hope
and
it looks like Marston is the one with egg on his face for this one.

The Prohibitionist
===================
Unlocked: Complete Stranger quest "The Wronged Woman"
Location: Outside Blackwater Saloon
-------------------
Near the outdoor eatery part of the saloon you will find a man who is
preaching
that alcohol be banned, thus the name of this mission. This doofus, Abner
Forsyth, really doesn't understand why the people in this time period drank
and
even Marston mocks him for this.

Make your way into the alley over by the Tailor's shop to find a man who
wishes
to speak to you. His proposition is simple: Kill Abner Forsyth and you will
get
a reduction of costs for alcohol or renting rooms. If you warn him then you
the
costs of these go up. You get some money either way although Philips gives you
more than Abner does.

Should you choose to kill him then get onto a roof or something and snipe him
with your Rolling Block, or preferably the Carcano, and then get the heck out
of town. By now you should have plenty of Pardon Notes to pay him off with so
that's not going to be a huge deal. Just be sure to do it from as far away as
possible so that you get a head start on the invevitable police chase.

===================
Remember My Family
===================
Unlocked: Complete the mission "The Last Enemy That Shall Be Destroyed"
Location: Blackwater train station platform
-------------------
Head to the train station in Blackwater where you will meet a man who says he
knows Ross. He tells you that the man can be found near Lake Don Julio with
his
wife. It's time to get that snake. Take a wagon or ride your way to the Lake
where you can find his wife.

Speak to the woman to find out that Ross is out hunting with his brother. They
are hunting along the south side of the San Luis River. The easiest way to get
there is to set a waypoint there and hten use your camp site to fast travel to
the location. When you arrive you find Ross' brother Philip tending to his
gun.
He tells you that Ross has gone downriver to hunt some duck.

* NOTE: IF you're feeleing reallly malicious towards Ross you can kill his
wife
and his brother with little repercussion. Just use throwing knives in Dead Eye
to take them out.

Finally we can travel to Ross' location. Here you will find the bastard calmly
hunting ducks on the riverside. It's time to finish this whole thing,
finishing
off the unrepentant bastard forw hat he did. Finish Ross off with a duel to
avenge what he did to your father. For extra irony feel free to use the high
powered pistol that he gave to John during their first mission together.

Kit Items
===================
Bandana - This is purchased from the Thieves' Landing tailor. By equipping it
from the Kit Menu you will place the item on your face. While
wearing
it you will not lose any Honor for any dark actions you undertake.

Bandolier - This is purchased from any general store. When you buy one it is
automatically equipped, doubling the capacity of all rifles. This
includes single shots, sniper rifles and repeaters.

Binoculars - Given to you during the mission "At Home With Dutch". These do
exactly what you think they do when used from the menu.

Bounty Proof - When you kill a bounty their hand will be placed into your
inventory upon looting their corpses.

Campsite - You start the game with this piece of equipment. Using it in the
wilds allows you to save your game, fast travel or change outfits.
In addition you will have a very small amount of ammo refilled.

Improved Campsite - This is purchased from any general store. Its only purpose
is to restore more of your ammo whenever you visit camp.

Newspaper - Using this from the Kit menu allows you to see any newspapers you
have purchased on your travels.

Obscurid Del Santa Andres - This is given to you when your Honor and Fame get
high enough. A traveling nun will approach you,
giving you this holy relic. While you carry this
in
your kit enemy attacks are far less accurate.
Pardon Letter - These letters are gotten from chests in gang hideouts. Using
one of these at a train station automatically removes whatever
bounty you may have acquired just by handing over the paper.

Rabbit's Foot - Purchase this from any general store. Just carrying this in
the
Kit satchel increases the amount of items and money that you
loot from bodies and chests by 20% from then on.

Treasure Map - This is obtained from a random event by helping a traveling

treasure hunter. Using this from the menu allows you to look at
your current treasure map, giving you tips as to what you need
to do next to find gold.

===================
Maps
===================
Survivalist Map - These maps are integral to completing any of the Survivalist
challenges within any reasonable amount of time. For the
next
ten minutes (or twenty if you have rank 5 in Survivalist)
all
nearby herbs are highlighted on your mini-map. Buy these at
shops and use them once you're in the wild where the herb
you
are looking for is located. The maps are expended upon being
used, requiring you to buy new ones.

Territory Map - When you purchase a territory map it will reveal all locations
within that territory. This allows you to fast travel to those
locations without having to actually visit them. There is one
of these for each area of the game so pick them up ASAP. The
item is expended upon its use.

Bandito Outfit

Scrap 3: Defeat all players in a round of Liar's Dice in Casa Madruga.
- Kind of easy but you're going to have to work for this one. Try going

from. Once you see one of the Banditos come up be sure to bring him back
alive to get this scrap.

- Another self explanatory scrap.

-------------------
Reye's Rebels Outfit
-------------------

Scrap 2: Win at Arm Wrestling in the Pacific Union Railroad Camp.
- Complete the mission "We Shall Be Together in Paradise".
Scrap 3: Eliminate all other players in a game of Poker in Blackwater.
- This one is kind of a pain in the ass. The easiest way to do it is to
stick
to a simple rhythm. When you get your hand if you have a hand that seems
like a total waste fold immediately and let the computer deal with itself.
If your hand looks good then bet 150 immediately. Some of the guys will
fold while others will stay in the game. After the "Flop" bet another 150.
More often than not they will meet your first bet and then fold, giving
you
an easy win. It's tricky when they're about to run out of chips as they
are
almost always going to go all in so be careful at that point.
Scrap 4: Complete the "Lights, Camera, Action" Stranger's Task.
- Finish the mission "Sport of Kings, and Liars".
Scrap 5: Complete Nightwatch in Blackwater.
- This is unlocked after you arrive in the city itself once night comes.

- Still self explanatory.

-------------------
Gentlemen's Attire

your journal to see what's necesary to get this.

-------------------
Deadly Assassin Outfit
-------------------
Obtained: You must have preordered the game and then fulfill the following
criteria to get each piece.
Scrap 1: Find in a chest in Coot's Chapel.
- This is really easy since the chest is the only freaking thing in the
actual church. It's just to the right of the altar area.
Scrap 2: Complete the Twin Rocks Hideout.
- You will clear this as part of the main storyline. Once you've done so you
will get this scrap. If it doesn't unlock for some reason simply wait until
you can clear hideouts of your own accord and play through it once again.
Scrap 3: Capture or Kill Moe Van Barr.
- Moe is one of the first New Austin bounty hunter targets. This unlocks
Scrap 4: Win a duel in Armadillo.

looking to die pretty quickly.
Scrap 5: Complete the "American Appetites" Stranger's Mission.
- Finish the mission "Political Realities in Armadillo" to unlock this.
