SmartClass+ Installation

Prerequisites
These minimum requirements apply to the SmartClass+ language lab system when equipped with a software-based
Intercom module (for audio) and a software-based KVM module (for screen sharing). For systems using either a
hardware-based Intercom module or a hardware-based KVM module, the requirements are much less demanding. For
systems that do not include a Content Management module, the requirements are also much less demanding.

Prerequisites
Sound Cards
• All sound cards must be identical
• All sound cards must use the same drivers
• Make sure that the latest sound card drivers from the manufacturer have been installed
• Sound cards must support What-U-Hear (Sound Blaster) or Stereo Mix (other manufacturers)
• If the built-in sound cards do not support What-U-Hear/Stereo Mix, you must install external USB sound cards
having this support. We recommend Sound Blaster X-Fi Go! Pro

Dual-Monitor Support for Teacher Station

• Primary monitor (teacher monitor) must support a minimum resolution of 1024 x 768. This resolution should
match those of the student stations. (Note that to run the Media Activities Dashboard (MAD) for the teacher on
the primary monitor, a minimum resolution of 1280 x 768, (or 1280 x 800 if you want to view the Windows
taskbar) is required. )
• Secondary monitor (control monitor) must support a minimum resolution of 1280 x 768. The vertical resolution
must be at least as great as the primary monitor.
• When running dual monitors on the same computer, make sure that in the Windows screen configuration the
icons for the two monitors are top-aligned, as SC+ relies on this for proper positioning of on-screen graphics.
• Make sure that the Windows text/icon size is set to 100% (and no larger) as larger sizes interfere with all Flash
based programs – including SC+.

Network Switch
• The network should use a single (or stacked) TCP/IP switch located in the classroom (or near the classroom in
wiring closet) with connections for all student stations, the teacher station, and the SC+ server.
• Student ports should be 100 Mbps
• Teacher port should be 1000 Mbps (or if 30 stations or less, can be 100 Mbps)
• The SC+ Server port should be 1000 Mbps

General Requirements
• All stations must be part of the same Workgroup or Domain
• On all stations, local firewalls should be disabled or opened up to the SmartClass + (and related) applications
(network ports 33369, 33370, 33378, and 33379).
• Anti-virus software that conflicts with the operation of SmartClass + must be disabled

Video Support & Acceleration

• All stations must be running the latest version of Adobe Flash (version 10.1.102.64 or newer) that has been
downloaded using Internet Explorer
• DirectDraw must be enabled on all stations
• The Windows Media Player “overlay” capability must be disabled
