CHAPTER-1

INTRODUCTION:
The growth of technology is witnessed everywhere and the use of technology in medical fields
increased in recent times. The process is that, when the determined output value from the
sensors is different from the predefined value, the computer acknowledges it as an abnormal
value or a disease and offers treatment (i.e.) it prescribes medicines. Here the computer acts as
the medical practitioner which is capable of finding out disease. The controller is used to
process the data, various bio medical sensors like Blood pressure sensor, and temperature sensor
are used to gather the sample from the patients. A software program using visual basic and C
program to print the medicines prescribed.
Would you allow a medical robot with artificial intelligence(AI)to examine, diagnose and
prescribe a treatment plan for you or a member of your family with cancer. would you accept
robot as your primary surgeon. And if you were to Do so, what would the human clinical do.
AI and robots have long been a theme in fiction. Just imagine that you had a hand-held scanner
the size of your smartphone that could’ sense, compute and record your daily health status just
like the star trek medical ‘tricorder’. what if it could make recommendations so that you could
achieve and maintain your ‘optimal’ physical or mental condition or detect anomalies early.
Robots and tricorder scanners are not science fiction.AI and robots that support, diagnose and
treat people are already in homes, workplaces and clinical environments all over the world. And
how we embrace AI and robotics to complement and how we enhance current healthcare
services over the next ten years will define our ability to deliver a more responsive health
service with improved health outcomes, While at the same time enabling people to take more
control over their day-to-day health needs

LITERATURE SURVEY
Object Detection and Recognition For a Pick and Place Robot, IEEE 2014:
21st century is the area of modern engineering and one of the emerging technologies of
engineering is robotics and its applications in comfort of human being. Robotics is the combine
techniques of mechatronics and mechanical used to make complex work simpler. robot is a
reprogrammable, multifunctional manipulator designed to move material, parts, tools, or
specialized devices through variable programmed motions for the performance of a variety of
tasks. The purpose of the present review article is to summarize and collect all the major
information about robot systematic performance on a common platform.

A Voice Controlled Robot Arm Brandi House,USA:

Project is developing a robot doctor to allow medical professionals to examine patients over
huge distances. Through a specially designed surface mounted on a robotic arm, stiffness data of
the patient’s abdomen is displayed to the human, allowing the doctor to feel what the remote
robot feels. This is made possible thanks to a tool called a haptic device, which has a soft
surface reminiscent of skin that can recreate the sense of touch through force and changing its
shape.
During the examination, the doctor sits at a desk facing three screens, one showing the doctor’s
hand on the faraway patient and a second for teleconferencing with the patient, which will
remain an essential part of the patient the exchange.
The third screen displays a special capability of the-ultrasonography. This is a medical
technique that sends a sound pulses into a patient’s body to create a window into the patient. It
reveals areas of different densities in the body and is often used to examine pregnant women.
Ultra sonography is also important for flagging injuries or disease in organs such as the heart,
liver ,kidneys or spleen and can find indication for some type of cancer too .
The system allows a doctor from remote location to do a first assessment of patient and make a
decision about what should be done, whether to transfer them to hospital undergoes certain
treatment said professor peer.

Robot currently resides in a hospital in Poland scientist have shown a prototype at medical
conference around the world an they have already been approached by doctors from Australia
and Canada. Where it can take several hours to transfer rural patient to a doctors office or
hospital

Vital Signs Monitoring and patient Tracking Over a Wireless Network, IEEE Engineering in
Medical and Biology 27th Annual conference:
In this world every operations performed by human are getting simple, in order to make it
simpler. The system presents an innovation which makes use of the human gesture, the very as a
Definition of being human. This work is based on hand gestures which will be useful for squad a
Communication. The transceiver will be able to detect several gestures of human using MEMS.
This system design will cover both of the hardware implementation and software interface of the
wireless system. the hardware part is mainly based on RSSI, text to speech converter,
Accelerometer and transceiver to receive and send information.
In the current era robots which are controlled through commands are mainly used in military
applications.
Gesture controlled robots are on ascent for military purpose, which is called as un maned ground
vehicles. These robots are utilized to increase the capacity in open territory.
In the last few years tremendous research is going on in various paths of the world to develop
robots for military applications. The current hand signal system for soldiers has some shortages,
such as unavailability in the darkness and some times hard to keep stealth.

CHAPTER-3

PROBLEM STATEMENT
This project is to bring fully automated device to diagnose the patient for certain common
diseases and dispense the medicines through Robotic arm automatically. A current scenario in
self-testing is like BP monitoring, and temperature monitoring. Moreover the medical facility is
very less for those who live in remote areas and most of the experts and advanced facilities are
available in urban areas. The scope of this project is to design and implement a reliable, cheap,
low powered, non-intrusive, and accurate system that can reduce human effort in measuring
vital signs and diagnose with required medications in case of abnormality.
This project specifically deals with the signal conditioning and data acquisition of vital signs:
heart rate, blood pressure, body temperature and also prescribe medicines including diarrhea and
cough. Initially a microphone is placed on opposite of Automatic virtual robot Doctor and the
patient to say their age and cause for the disease in code format i.e. eg. FEVER-01, BP-02 and
dispense corresponding medicines automatically.
OBJECTIVES
 SMS Integration with virtual doctor and Human beings
 By using Navy based algorithm to predict the diseases with the use of Symptoms
 ECG sensor can detect the cardiac values and stored in the database.
 Using cough sensor can also detect the patient who is having an cause the value send to
the consulted doctor through internet gateway.

Arduino UNIT:
The Arduino Uno is a microcontroller board based on the ATmega328
datasheet). It has 14 digital input/output pins (of which 6 can be used as PWM outputs), 6
analog inputs, a 16 MHz crystal oscillator, a USB connection, a power jack, an ICSP header,
and a reset button. It contains everything needed to support the microcontroller; simply connect
it to a computer with a USB cable or power it with a AC-to-DC adapter or battery to get started.
The Uno differs from all preceding boards in that it does not use the FTDI USB-to-serial driver
chip. Instead, it features the Atmega8U2 programmed as a USB-to-serial converter.

Blood Pressure Meter:

Blood pressure is a common disorder now a day. To measure the blood pressure a
method called Pulse aximeter is used. The process is that it consists of a LED and a Photodiode,
the LED is placed above the skin of the finger and the photo detector is placed below the finger.
When the LED is on the light from the LED travels to the skin and is received by the photo
detector, the changes in light absorption is measured by the photo diode. The light absorbed is
directly proportional to the voltage. This voltage signal is conditioned and converted to digital
and values are displayed.

The range is of few Micro volts and the frequency is 0.1 Hz to 10Hz .Then using PWTT (Pulse
Width Transit Time) a regression equation is formed and the values are calibrated Linear
Regression = -0.6881 * PWTT +228.59.

Heart Rate Meter:

The electrical activity of the heart (i.e.), the blood flowing from articles to ventricles, from
ventricles to aorta and from aorta to the all the other parts of the body, the cycle repeats itself
until the whole blood is pumped out. When the cycle is occurring Trans membrane potential
is produced, which is the internal and external spaces of cell membrane changes at each
stage. Using surface electrodes the voltage can be measured and processed. Here gold cup
electrodes in Lead 1, Lead 2 and Lead 3 configurations are placed in various parts of the
body and voltages are captured. The output voltage ranges from 0.1mV to 0.5mV and
frequency about 0.05Hz to 60Hz.
.

Robotic Arm:

The mobile pick and place robotic system can be represented by basic subsystems as;

Rotational manipulator.

The rotational robotic arm consists of a stepper motor that moves in step angles to 3600 by

giving logic through controller. A stepper motor drive circuit drives the motor. The manipulator

is one joint and has one degree of freedom.

GSM (Global System for Mobile Communication):

GSM is a digital mobile telephone system that is widely used in Europe and other parts
of the world. GSM uses a variation of Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) and is the most
widely used of the three digital wireless telephone technologies (TDMA, GSM, and CDMA).
GSM digitizes and compresses data, then sends it down a channel with two other streams of user
data, each in its own time slot. It operates at either the 900 MHz or 1,800 MHz frequency band.
GSM is the de facto wireless telephone standard in Europe. GSM has over one billion
users worldwide and is available in 190 countries. Since many GSM network operators have
roaming agreements with foreign operators, users can often continue to use their mobile phones
when they travel to other countries.
Thermometer:
In our day to day life the use of thermometer is increasing. Instead of going to a
medical expert the digital thermometer serves as a self-testing device for measuring body
temperature. The device consists of a thermistor which picks up the body temperature and
converts in to equal voltage. The voltage being analog is sent to the ADC and corresponding
digital voltage is seen.
Output Voltage: -2.5 to +2.5V
Temperature Measured: 0 to 50 degree Celsius

LCD (Liquid Crystal Display):

LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) screen is an electronic display module and find a wide
range of applications. A 16x2 LCD display is very basic module and is very commonly used in
various devices and circuits. These modules are preferred over seven segments and other multi
segment LEDs.
5 x 8 dots with cursor
Built-in controller (KS 0066 or Equivalent)
+ 5V power supply (Also available for + 3V)
1/16 duty cycle
Regulated Power Supply:
A regulated power supply is an embedded circuit or standalone unit, the function of
which is to supply a stable voltage, to circuit or device that must operated with in certain power
supply limits. The output from the regulated power supply may be alternating or unidirectional.

RS-232 Serial Port:

Information being transferred between data processing equipment and peripherals is in
the form of digital data which is transmitted in either a serial or parallel mode. Parallel
communications are used mainly for connections between test instruments or computers and
printers, while serial is often used between computers and other peripherals. Serial trans-mission
involves the sending of data one bit at a time, over a single communications line. In contrast,
parallel communications require at least as many lines as there are bits in a word being
transmitted (for an 8-bit word, a minimum of 8 lines are needed).Serial transmission is
beneficial for long distance communications, whereas parallel is designed for short distances or
when very high transmission rates are required.
Chapter 5
Possible outcome:
 The sensors interfaced with the microcontroller used to detect the diseases.
 The robotic arm rotates to the 360 degree and picks the medicines and dispense to the patient
according to their diseases. Moreover the process continues in case of emergency the details
of the patient are sent as a message to the nearby Govt. Hospital’s Doctor through GSM
module .
 Our country has a great history in providing medical facility at low cost.
 This can be extended to remote areas also by our innovative technology VIRTUAL-
DOCTOR and it creates a great impact on the society and the health industry will drastically
depend on bio-medical electronics like the proposed one which shall be implemented in
every remote village across the state and country.
 The lives of people is changing every day and expecting a technological innovation to help
them solving their issues.
 This project is unique and will surely help the poor people who are not aware of the current
medical hazards. As per the words of Neil Armstrong “That's one small step for a man, one
giant leap for mankind”. This project will set in future as humanoid robotsand assist the
patient and treat the patients.
