Schluter®-DITRA and Schluter®-DITRA-XL uncouple the tile or stone covering from the sub-
strate, allowing independent movement to occur. This eliminates the transfer of stresses from
the substrate to the finished surface and, thus, eliminates cracking. When a waterproof instal-
lation is required, use in conjunction with Schluter®-KERDI-BAND. For more information,

Schluter®-DITRA is 1/8" (3 mm) thick, which minimizes tile assembly thickness and reduces transi-
tions to lower surface coverings (e.g., carpet, engineered wood, and vinyl). DITRA allows for ceramic
tile application over single layer plywood or OSB subfloors on joists spaced up to 19.2" (488 mm) o.c.
Schluter®-DITRA-XL is 5/16" (7 mm) thick, which permits even transitions between tile and
3/4"-thick hardwood flooring. DITRA-XL allows for ceramic tile application over single layer ply-
wood/OSB subfloors on joists spaced up to 24" (610 mm) o.c.

Finishing tiled edges
Ceramic and stone tiles need protection at outside corners. Often, however, ceramic trim pieces do not match the color of the
field tile or are altogether unavailable. Schluter®-Systems profiles come in a variety of colors and finishes to protect outside
corners and to create a clean look on walls and countertops. Choose straight-edge, rounded-edge, or square-edge protection
(Schluter®-JOLLY, -RONDEC, or -QUADEC).

CORNER JOINTS
Areas prone to cracking
Similar to a large sheet of glass, an installed ceramic floor or wall is rigid by nature. Therefore, it is important to install movement
joints at inside corners, perimeters, and within large surfaces, creating a soft zone that will absorb movement and prevent tiles
or grout from cracking. Traditionally, this has been accomplished using silicone sealant (caulking). However, caulking can be
difficult to apply and will dry out over time, resulting in re-caulking at a later date.
Schluter®-Systems offers a complete line of permanent prefabricated movement and corner profiles: Schluter®-DILEX. These
profiles are designed to protect your floor or wall while creating a straight, uniform joint appearance. In addition, Schluter®
-DILEX profiles prevent the penetration of surface water and the subsequent need to re-caulk at a later date. The final result is
a maintenance-free, long-lasting, professional installation.
