Performance Notes
A search for composer Lud Worsham was fruitless as was the search for information about A Son of the Sea. The song was
popular among Barbershoppers back in the 1950s and an arrangement was published in "Songs for Men Book #7" in 1954. It
indicates Lud Worsham as the composer and the arrangement as "Adapted from the Traditional" and copyrighted by
SPEBSQSA. Later, in the late 70s, it was included in "Barbershop Potpourri," a songbook with music for just about every
occasion.

Renowned barbershop arranger Ed Waesche created this new version and the 1997 international quartet champion from the
Johnny Appleseed District, Yesteryear, wowed the audience and judges with a great performance. Yesteryear was blessed
with a booming, resonant bass singer, Randy Baughman, for whom this song/arrangement fit like a glove. Dan Trakas sang
tenor, Mark Blake sang lead and Rod Nixon completed the foursome with baritone.

It is recommended that the arrangement be sung with heart-felt passion, not adhering constantly to a strict meter. Dramatize
the lyric and express the message and key words. Use your imagination as if you are A Son of the Sea.
