1. EFFECTIVITY

ATR72-101, ATR72-102, ATR72-201, ATR72-202, ATR72-211, ATR72-212 and ATR72-212A

aircraft models.

2. REASON

The aim of this Service Letter is to inform the airline engineering and maintenance department
about the methods and procedures to keep the environmental control system and the bleed air
system in high efficiency conditions and to improve the reliability of these systems.

This Service Letter provides the guideline to integrate and to optimize the already existing ATR
maintenance program for airlines usually operating in severe environment.

Under no circumstances should this Service Letter be a substitute or an alternative to the

approved MRBR and MPD documents.

This Service Letter has been created on the basis of the experience of several years of aircraft
operations and it has been developed to increase the air conditioning system reliability during
the summer season. Before carrying out any maintenance actions on the aircraft, ATR suggest
operators to read HONEYWELL Service Letter No. 5768C-01.

According to the aircraft utilization, we suggest that the following maintenance actions be
performed.

A. ONE TIME MAINTENANCE ACTIONS (SEE §3.A.)

- Underfloor ducts alignment.

B. EVERY 5000 FH (SEE §3.B.)

- Check of bleed duct tightness.

- Replacement of the leading edge bleed seals.

- Replacement of the handling bleed valve duct seals.

- Replacement of the underfloor bleed seals.

- Pressure loss test of the heat exchangers.

- Pressure loss test of the condensers.

3. TESTS AND MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES

A. ONE TIME MAINTENANCE ACTIONS

(1) Underfloor ducts alignment

As per AMM (JIC) 36-11-00 PRO 10000, verify the correct alignment of bleed ducts in
the underfloor zone.

B. MAINTENANCE ACTIONS TO BE PERFORMED EVERY 5000 FH

(1) Check of bleed duct tightness

As per AMM (JIC) 36-11-00 CHK 10000, perform the check of bleed tightness. Some
leaks are due to the deformation of bleed duct flanges. In this case, do no try to fix the
leak by over torque the clamps. A specific tool (P/N 6FT001-101, see §4) can be used
to restore the original flange profile.

(2) Replacement of handling bleed valve duct seals (ATD50N)

With reference to Figure 1, perform the following actions:

- Open nacelle panel to gain access to the valve.

- Remove the MARMAN clamp Item 15.

- Remove the four bolts Item 14.

- Remove the four bolts Item 17.

- Disconnect duct Item 12 from aircraft.

- Replace the O-rings according to procedure described in CMMv 36-11-45.

CAUTION: IF DAMAGED, REPLACE VALVE SEAL ITEM 16.

- Reconnect the MARMAN clamp.

- Install the four bolts.

- Close-up.

(3) Replacement of leading edge and underfloor bleed duct seals

As per AMM (JIC) 36-11-00 RAI 10010 and AMM (JIC) 36-11-00 RAI 10011, based
on the experience of the in-service behaviour of these seals installed on aircraft
operating in severe weather conditions, a preventive measure consisting in a
scheduled replacement of the seals, improves the reliability of the bleed system.

(4) Pressure loss test of the heat exchanger

Perform the test according to the CMMv 21-51-02.

(5) Pressure loss test of the condenser

Perform the test according to the CMMv 21-51-03.

(6) Pack hoses replacement

Degradation of the pack hoses is characterized by loss of rubber characteristics with

consequent swelling phenomenon.

ATR, with the aim to reduce maintenance actions during hot season, suggest to
replace the pack hoses on a regular basis of 5000 FH.

(7) Cleaning of the main distribution duct outlets

Check that the main distribution duct outlet louvers and the honeycomb are not
obstructed by dust. If necessary, open and clean them with a vacuum cleaner.

(8) Cleaning of recirculation fan grids

With reference to Figure 2, clean the two recirculation fan grids with dry compressed
air and baltane.

C. MAINTENANCE ACTIONS TO BE PERFORMED EVERY 2000 FH (4A) OR EVERY

YEAR BEFORE HOT SEASON

(1) Check of HP valve delivered pressure

As per AMM (JIC) 36-11-00 CHK 10010.

(2) Check of pack valve delivered pressure

As per AMM (JIC) 21-51-00 CHK 10010.

Remove the heat exchangers.

Internally check that they are not polluted by oil or other foreign matters and clean
them as per HONEYWELL (ALLIED SIGNAL/GARRETT) Service Letter No. GP-13.

Replace the removed bellows and hoses by new ones.

Close-up.

As per AMM (JIC) 21-51-51 RAI 10000.

SIGNAL/GARRETT) Service Letter No. GP-20.

As per AMM (JIC) 21-51-55 RAI 10000.

(6) Cleaning of all temperature sensors

CAUTION: DURING SENSORS REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION, PAY SPECIAL

ATTENTION NOT TO DAMAGE SENSING ELEMENTS.
