Every country must have a variety of cultures.

Culture is owned by everyone and of course

varies according to the region. In Indonesia, we know a variety of tribes which of course also
have characteristics in accordance with their culture. Not only in Indonesia, other countries also
have their respective cultures which we must respect. We as nurses will certainly meet patients
from different regions - different with their respective cultures and backgrounds. We as nurses
must respect that and really be careful in taking action so that nothing unexpected happens or
offends the patient. Because the main principle of the patient must remain comfortable.
Because everyone's culture is different - we as nurses must understand the importance of
learning cultures in different regions, so that when we meet with patients we can still
appreciate their culture and understand. So that the actions taken by nurses can also be in
accordance with the culture of the patient. For example in Korea and Russians sometimes see
disease as a result of conflicts between groups or peers. Chinese, Koreans, Vietnamese and
Native Americans have interpreted asking for help to deal with pain as dishonorable behavior.
Therefore the importance of understanding the culture of various regions, not only in Indonesia
but also abroad. Because we as nurses do not know someday we will meet patients from
anywhere, because it might happen will meet patients from other countries. And as nurses
should not choose patients or discriminate between patients. As nurses we must also examine
our patients if they are still using traditional medicines, such as herbs from spices or there are
also patients who still believe in traditional healers.

Transultural nursing means the nature of respect for similarities and differences between
cultures. And is something that must be owned by nurses. If there is a cultural conflict between
patients and nurses can be obeyed by establishing good communication. Where good
communication usually applies to all cultures. What nurses must do such as, Listen attentively,
Try to listen to the client deliver the message and the nurse gives attention to the needs and
problems of the client. Attentive listening skills are: looking at the patient while talking, making
eye contact, nodding the head when the patient is talking or giving feedback. Clarification. If
there is a misunderstanding, the nurse needs to clarify so that the message can arrive correctly.

So, in conclusion we as nurses must not distinguish the race, ethnicity, culture and religion of
the patient. Must be able to respect each other's tolerance, not differentiate between patients,
always be friendly and give full attention to patients. That is why it is important to appreciate
and understand the culture of patients, so that we can also provide appropriate and non-
offensive actions. If nurses do not understand the culture of the patient, distrust will arise so
that the therapeutic relationship between the nurse and the patient will be disrupted.
