PARENT TESTIMONIAL - MS. RUTHIE PUMPHREY
“My name is Ruthie; I enrolled my grandson, Jacoby Jackson,
in the ULC chess program at Gresham Park Recreation
Center two years ago. In his first tournament, he placed third
for elementary students. He was amazed and so was I. The
next day after the tournament, he took his trophy to church
and to school.

Playing chess has given him confidence in speaking before

a group and teaching other young people how to play chess.
Playing chess improved his math scores. He was invited
to be a part of the math club at Arete Preparatory School.
Jacoby is a sixth-grade student at Camp Jewell House.

He is looking forward to his second chess tournament

Saturday, August 25 at the Gresham Park Recreation Center.”

2020 DONOR SPOTLIGHT

Our donors are the life-line of ULC and we are grateful for their numerous years of support
and value their involvement. Donors will be spotlighted in each future newsletter.
ROBERT J. GRACE, D.D.S.,NEW YORK
A master chess player as well as a retired dentist, Dr. Robert J. Grace epitomizes
a donor who follows his passion and has supported ULC for over ten years.
While Dr. Grace and Dr. Glenn have been friends since they were roommates
at Howard University, it was the Chess program that captured his attention and
support. Dr. Grace stated his belief that chess is a conduit for producing great
students in every field. More recently, he stepped up his game and became
a donor to support imminent preschool building construction at WHPS--a
wonderful investment in young lives!
Thank-you Dr. Grace.
