What Is Globalization?

Globalization is a process of interaction and integration among the people,

companies, and governments of different nations, a process driven by
international trade and investment and aided by information technology. This
process has effects on the environment, on culture, on political systems, on
economic development and prosperity, and on human physical well-being in
societies around the world.

Globalization also involves the growth of multinational corporations

(businesses that have operations or investments in many countries) and
transnational corporations (businesses that see themselves functioning in a
global marketplace). The international institutions that oversee world trade
and finance play an increasingly important role in this era of globalization.
Although most people continue to live as citizens of a single nation, they are
culturally, materially, and psychologically engaged with the lives of people in
other countries as never before. Distant events often have an immediate and
significant impact, blurring the boundaries of our personal worlds. Items
common to our everyday lives—such as the clothes we wear, the food we eat,
and the cars we drive—are the products of globalization. The reasons for
globalization is that Most experts attribute globalization to improvements in
communication, transportation, and information technologies. For example,
not only currencies, but also stocks, bonds, and other financial assets can be
traded around the clock and around the world due to innovations in
communication and information processing.

THE PROBLEM OF TRAINING IN

NIGERIA
Firstly let have a deep understand about what training is all about:
Training can be defined as the systematic development of the
knowledge, skill and attitude required by an individual to
perform effectively on a given task or job.
Training can also be seen as concept which implies an
awakening of dormant or latent skills, knowledge,( natural,
personal and societal) and attitude ( behaviour, character and
habits)in other for a room of improvement could occur in job
performance and ultimately lead to the development of a new
individual and an effective and good oriented organization.
Training fills the gaps between what someone can do and
what he should be able to do. Its first aim is to ensure that, as
quickly as possible; people can reach an acceptable level in
their jobs. Training the builds on this foundation by enhancing
skill and knowledge as required to improved performance in
the present job or to develop potential for the further.
Therefore, training is not just an activity one embanks upon
when a crisis occurs, but must be systematically planned,
designed and implemented. The process of globalization has
both positive and negative effects to different categories of
the world. Nigeria has a whole has various competition among
firms to get a good share of the large world market leads to,
specialization and efficiency, better quality products at
reduced prices, economies of scale of production and so on.
But here we pin point training as our subject towards our
global world. Despite the opportunities, there is no doubt that
globalization has presented tremendous challenge to local
manufactures. Competent management with requisite modern
management skills and systems is essential for success of any
business enterprise. With globalization, the management skills
for success in the global market place have changed
substantially. Strategy and marketing skills have become
particularly important for success. There is therefore required
of our industries, enhanced business and human resource
management systems and levels of skills, knowledge and
management constituent with enhanced frequent interactions
with the various actors to know where those lapses are. We
know the major opportunity provided by globalization is
access too much larger market. The challenge to business is
therefore how to take advantage of this access to world
market. If industrial development in Nigeria is to achieve rapid
growth, we must be able to develop exports by tapping into
global value chain., with all this one needs to strengthen its
training qualities of their workers in carring out efficient
,quality, professional tasks and objectives.
The effective repositioning of our industrial sector to meet the
challenges of globalized economy requires attaining
competitiveness at both the level of the national economy and
level of the firm. A strong private sector is essential for
building a competitive economy .unfortunately, our private
sector is still too weak to shoulder the burden of moving the
economy forward. Inspire of the structural weaknesses
suffered in the sectors of the economy at general some
industrial sub-sectors and firms continue to prosper.
And some other problem of training and development
in Nigerian are: political consideration in selecting people
for training, inadequate book on training and development in
Nigerian, inadequate exposure to the benefit of training
through the organisation’s annual reports profits and loss
account, little vote is always set aside for training.

In conclusion
Some possible solutions are: responding positively to the
globalization call, commitment and will to fund training
adequately by government and carry out evaluative studies
will go a long way in improving training and development in
Nigeria, partnering with some embassies on the training
needs of Nigeria, most importantly the will to utilize research
results though training will create a new mind-set for
Nigerians to develop though training and development,
