I.Open questions

1.Define the terms below:

a) Computer maintenance: is the way a computer can be maintained and protected from
having any kind of problem.
b) Device driver: it is software which works as an interface between hardware device and
operating system.
c) Main memory: also called RAM. This is a working space of the processor. It is a
temporary memory.i.e it loses its contents when the power is off.(volatile memory)

2. Four major functions of processor

- Fetches an instructions from main memory


-Decodes the instructions
-Executes the instructions
-Correction of the errors in the instructions

3. Two main parts of BIOS


The BIOS is composed of two elements:
1. A DIP (Dual Inline Package) circuit or a memory flash containing the software part,
2. A CMOS circuit (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) in which are saved the
parameters.

4. Three main function of BIOS

a) It boots the PC by performing all necessary tests (POST) before loading of the Operating
system

8. Cold boot consists of pressing the switch button on your computer. It means this is said
when your machine was down. But warm boot consists of restarting your machine by
pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL key combination. This is to empty the RAM for good
performance of your system.
