This course emphasizes
Arabic language acquisition
and cultural exploration in
an immersive environment
through listening, speaking,
reading and writing. The main
focus will be on developing
communication skills with the
ultimate goal of preparing
students for advanced Arabic
study.

Students in this course will
participate in many important
discussions focused on
dominant cultural themes in
today’s Arab and Islamic
world. Using their own day-
to-day experiences, students
will engages in a series of
cultural debates that will
bring them to a closer
understanding of Arab and Intensive   Arabic   and   Culture   in   Morocco   is   an   eight-­‐week   program   integrates  
Islamic societies. two   courses   that   focus   on   studying   Arabic   and   exploring   Arab   and   Islamic  
culture.  The  program  is  based  in  the  medieval  city  of  Fes  (Fez),  the  cultural  and  
intellectual  capital  of  Morocco.    
During   the   first   seven   weeks,   students   will   primarily   focus   on   completing  
Intermediate   Arabic   (second   year).   Throughout   this   portion   of   the   program,  
students  will  closely  experience  life  and  culture  through  home-­‐stays,  guided  field  
trips,  and  visits  to  markets,  shrines  and  workshops.  
The   last   week   of   the   program   will   be   dedicated   to   visiting   the   imperial   city   of  
Marrakesh  and  culminate  in  Essaouira,  home  of  the  Gnawa  Music  Festival.
