What does a computer do?

A computer stores and executes sequences of instructions. This allows the computer to
perform a wide variety of tasks depending on what instructions are being executed.

There are too many uses for modern computers to mention them all here, but some of
the most common uses of computers include storing information, creating documents,
accessing information, and communicating with others.

What is the difference between hardware and software?

The term hardware refers to the physical devices and components that a computer
system is made from.

The term software refers to the sets of instructions (programs) that are executed on a
computer to allow it to perform different tasks. For example, a computer screen, or a
disk drive is a piece of hardware, while a word processing application or an Internet web
browser is a software program.

Are peripheral devices hardware or software?

Peripheral devices are hardware components that are part of a computer system, but
are considered non-essential.

Give an example of a peripheral device

A computer printer is one type of peripheral device.

Why do you need systems software and applications software on your computer?
System software is required so that the physical devices that make up the computer
system can work and communicate.

Applications software is required for the user to perform specific tasks on the computer.
(Applications software helps users apply the functionality of the computer system to a
particular goal or set of related tasks.)
