The pitiable condition that Manmohan Singh finds himself in today is a

result of this arrangement of sharing power. The Prime Minister has
today two bosses: the Congress president and the coalition partners of
the government. Obviously Manmohan is subservient to the supreme
leader of his party. Additionally the coalition partners also do not bother
two figs for him. They would rather pay heed to Sonia. People like Raja
have their own boss like Karunanidhi. So long as Karunanidhi is happy
with him, Raja is happy; what Manmohan thinks of him does not bother
him much.

Raja is not bothered about Manmohan Singh, but as a citizen of this

country I am bothered about the fate of the Prime Minister. I, and surely
many others like me, want an empowered Prime Minister who can rule
the country with a free hand. Manmohan Singh is an honest man and is
also competent. This is saying a lot in these times of Raja. But if he is
not empowered, there is no use of his being the Prime Minister of the
country in these extraordinary times when the faith of the people in their
leaders is at its lowest ebb. And by the way, nobody can empower a
Prime Minister. He himself has to do that. If he cannot, then he should
get out voluntarily. For the sake of the nation.

leader since he cannot stand up either for himself or his country
- but can anyone come up with an alternative? We need a Offensive
leader who will help India take a plunge into the next orbit ,
without personal or political baggage getting in the way. We

India voted Congress into power at a considerable cost and if

Hi, I have been watching out for the comments on this very Recommend (0)
article very closely. I read through that many of us question the
way we elect our leaders. SOme has questioned the capability Offensive
of our PM. Everyone has their own opinion and its really nice to
see the frustrations coming out from my own countrymen.
Atleast I see some hope in future. I do agree that its our
mistake that we elect these prople again and again. But just for
instance, say we are about to caste our vote and we know in
our region there are three people standing for the election. We
are left with no choice coz when I see all three of them have
criminal backgrounds. And if I decide not to vote still some
moajority falls into any ones kitty and he wins. So is it really our
mistake? I think the first and the foremost action has to come
from the election commision while giving out tickets to teh
candidates. They should have some prerequisites for getting a
ticket to stand for the election. A minimum qualification,
candidates past should not reflect in any serious criminal
activities except for some petty traffic violation casses or
something of that sort. Should clearly take note of the income
of teh candidate and the property he posses and the source it
has come from, is it as per the income the person had or
coming from ancestors, once elected people should serve the
nation and not the political party they belong to.. etc. These
simple checks will make a begining and on top of this if we
individuals start to act wisely by not paying bribes and be in
acordance with the law then clearly there is a good ray of hope
for our splendid country. And one thing that can really change
teh attitude of we Indians are the way the media displays the
daily news. Including TOI and other media should focus on
showing the acheivements our people has made on the front
pages, which makes a reader to think the positive side rather
than reading corruption and other bad news on opening up the
news paper. JAI HIND

who were not from that “family” and all of them got their
“appointments” just either as stopgap arrangement or as a
matter of compromise to avoid infighting. To weaken the
system further, coalition government came which too is the
spin-effect of failure on the part of Congress party to make
electoral reforms and curtail mushrooming of regional parties.
These regional parties are all splinter groups formed mostly
from Congress. In such situations and as long as PM is not

the ground level. Everywhere corruption rules beyond
anyone's imagination. See the road condition, except
national highway, or go to any bus stand, everywhere you
can see a bumpy ride with potholes with plenty of filth.
People have become lazy as they are getting everything
free. The most criminal and damaging thing that can
happen to this state by Karuna and co is wiping out of
democratic practices, by bribing the voters. It started with
Thirumangalam, where the strong man,Azhagiri controls
and repeated this shame all byelections. I would like to
ask Mr.Maran, where did Karunanidhi got all these
money?.. It is the loot that got re-distributed. Nothing but,
robbing Peter to pay Paul.If you are proud of this feat, then
there is fundamentally something wrong in your
approach. You have indirectly admitted that Raja is deep
neck involved in this scam, by saying," blaming raja fully"
remark. Do not show any sympathy for person like Raja or
shamelessly project south- north divide, a typical jargon,
mastered by the present ruler,as nation's precious resource
is looted. Imagine a theif enters your house and loot, catch
him red handed, and if you came to know that he is a
sympathiser of DMK, will you allow him to go scot free?
.The same yardstick should apply to those who loot public
money. Don't look through jaundicied eyes.Head gets
blockage means, paralysis occur. it applies to governence
also.Tamil nadu is not an island,it is a part of centre. If the
nation fails,every one,too.

a matter of opportunity for most people. Those who do not get
a chance they cry foul. All are shouting and stopping
government to function, it is bad for country. Corruption is a
crime and should be dealt by the people who are professional.
It is not the function of parliament, Members should see that it
is taken up by professionals. Again just imagine if all the police
and CBI is tracking guilty, who will fight other crimes.
Corruption is so rampent that it needs a huge infrastucture to
deal with this menance. Politions are just shouting on the
fringes or leaves of the tree and the roots are hidden under the
bush. All needed is a mirror and polititions to look at it before
saying any word. The other point is that going against business
is not right. It is the officers and polititions which allow business
to be involved and are following conditions set by government
officers and polititions. Business at least contribute to GDP?

All it did was destroy the freedom of others and left wealth,

Adam Smith clearly outlined that wealth creation depends
voluntary choice and independance, and not in the
government telling us what to do and what not to do. This
kind of shackling led to plumeting production and serious
infrastructure issues. Getting a few hours of electricity on a
sweltering summer day for the average tax payer was a

What nonsense. Instead, if had allowed others to come in

Besides, what were Nehru's credentials for leading an

manipulated the system to get elected to Rajya Sabha, lacks
integrity as he continued to the Prime Minister without being a
member of Lok Sabha, and lacks moral courage to stand up to

to resign when his cabinet is so much enmeshed in the current

Nag ji, you're certainly objective. However, 'nation wants the Recommend (0)
Prime Minister call the shots'? When did this start? Where was
this logic when Indira, Nehru and Rajiv called the shots? They Offensive
were 'dictators' and people were 'slaves'. Remember
Jayaprakash, Morarji, George Fernandez et. al. in 1975, and
Rajaji before them? As you suggested, the problem is coalition
politics. How can that change if Singh resigns? Who created
the need for 'two bosses'? Why did they stop Sonia from
becoming the PM herself? Don't you think Sonia would be
more decisive and Singh better as advisor? Being from
Telangana, I have huge partiality for PVN Rao. But PVN Rao
owed his career to Indira and Rajiv the same way Singh owes
it to Sonia. PVN Rao couldn't win a seat in AP (before
becoming PM) for because of his caste and no fault of his own.
Yet he held big portfolios under Indira and Rajiv, and became a
natural choice when Rajiv died. When everyone stuck it to
Indira in 1978, PVN Rao stayed with her.

complaint against Manmohan is simple-yes you were not a

the obligation of being the leader of the nation, the supreme
boss of your government and you should not have allowed
balant corruption and malpractices under your nose.Sadly you
