Instructions to Candidates:

* Do not use paper clips, highlighters, glue or correction fluid/ tape
* Write your name, class and index number on the Answer paper
* Answer two questions: one from section one and one from section two
* Write your answers on the foolscap paper provided
* Begin Section Two on a separate sheet of paper
* Mistakes in spelling, punctuation and grammar may be penalized in any part of the paper
* You are reminded of the need for clear presentation of your answers.
* You are advised to spend no more than 50 minutes on each question.

You are advised to write between 350 and 500 words on one of the following topics.
At the head of your composition, write the number of the topic you have chosen.

1. The Internet exerts too much influence on the values of young people. Do you agree?

2. Write about an occasion when you unexpectedly discovered a talent you never knew you had.

3. What are the factors that a student should consider when choosing a polytechnic or junior
college?

4. Describe the sights and sounds of a popular public park and explain why it attracts so many
people.

Section Two [30 marks]

Begin your answer on a fresh page.

You are advised to write between 250 and 350 words for this section.
You should read the information carefully and plan your answer before beginning to write.

Your school’s Management Committee has decided to introduce a new CCA beginning next year.
Three CCAs have been short-listed.

As Head of your school’s CCA Council, you have been asked to obtain the Council members’ views
on the short-listed CCAs and to help the Management Committee select the CCA that will best meet
the needs and interests of the school and its students. The details of the CCAs are as follows:

CCA 1: Table Tennis Club


• Will develop skills in a new sport
• School already has 2 table tennis tables; may need more
• Training by coaches
• Opportunities to participate in external competitions

CCA 2: Literary, Drama and Debating Society (LDDS)


• Will help students develop speaking & debating skills
• Training by teachers or coaches
• Opportunities to participate in external debate tournaments
• Opportunities to stage plays

CCA 3: Chess Club


• Will develop strategic thinking skills
• Chess sets needed
• Training by coaches
• Opportunities for external competitions

Using the above notes and adding other relevant details, present your findings to the Principal in the
form of a report, telling him which CCA is the choice of your Council and explaining in detail the
reasons for your choice.

Set out your report correctly in clear, accurate English and in a polite but persuasive tone.
