YES EGYPT

The program "YES Egypt" is launched by the Entrepreneurship & Innovation Committee at AmCham
and the Supreme Council of Universities. “YES Egypt" is planned to be the largest direct
entrepreneurship awareness program for youth. The program aims to introduce tens of thousands
of university students to the opportunities and benefits of entrepreneurship and starting a private
business.

The program is part of a larger protocol of cooperation signed between the Supreme Council of
Universities and the American Chamber of Commerce in Egypt (AmCham Entrepreneurship &
Innovation Committee) that includes four distinct pillars:
I. Awareness
II. Business Plans
III. Incubation
IV. Capacity Building

Each of which will have its own implementation programs and strategic partners.

The main activity for creating awareness will revolve around a set of multiple choice questions and
research contest among university students from all backgrounds and ages. In year 1, the contest will
be limited to multiple choice questions and year 2, research will be added to the contest.

In brief, the contest in phase 1 (January 2011 to June 2011) will be promoted in 19 public
universities. Combined, those universities have 1.6 million registered students studying in 320
faculties. We would like to reach as many students as we can to register for and engage in the
contest’s various activities.

An internet-based solution is being developed to be the platform for the contest, aiming to attract
the maximum participation possible. A road-show to create awareness will pass by all participating
universities (we are targeting the 19 universities). The road-show will include an orientation session
in each participating university.

Winners of the contest will be awarded financial as well as non-financial awards. (Preliminary
suggestion, subject to changes, is to have the 1st financial award to be 25,000 LE, the 2nd financial
award to be 15,000 LE, and the 3rd financial award to be 10,000 LE, as well as several other smaller
amounts and other non-financial awards. Total awards will be given to 500+ participants.)

The plan is to have the winners announced in a big ceremony at the end of the contest’s activities
during May 2011. Officials, media and business representatives will be invited as well as the
maximum possible number of participating students.

This contest and all related activities are planned in a way that they are not conflicting with other
initiatives but rather complement them through creating the awareness among the largest number
possible of students. At later phases, students who wish to explore opportunities as entrepreneurs
will be guided to join other programs with our strategic partners. The initiative aims, as well, to build
capacity and a structured system inside participating universities to support entrepreneurship
projects and young entrepreneurs.
All involved parties are doing their best effort through extensive planning, engaging all stakeholders,
granting lucrative awards and making available resources to reach the largest number possible of
participants to the various program activities. Nevertheless, since this is a totally new activity and like
any other culture change programs, those numbers cannot be accurately estimated.
