Commitment Counselor

What are commitment counselors? They
are people who assist at the end of their
Sunday morning service those who are
giving their lives to Christ, coming for
membership, or making other decisions.
The primary role is to facilitate what
God is leading them to do, pray with
them, and record decisions that concern
salvation, baptism, or membership. This
training session will illustrate the
process and help equip you to serve the
Lord in this important role at
Cornerstone.
NOTE from the CHAIRMAN of DEACONS
Dear Cornerstone Family,
Several months ago a man by the name
of Jim Henry was asked by Jay Love to
come to our church to lead the Deacons
in a Deacon’s retreat. Out of that retreat
a ministry idea was laid upon my heart
and the hearts of other Deacons.
Mr. Henry spoke of how a Deacon body
that has the welfare of the widows of
their church in mind will not only follow
the doctrine of the Bible, but also begin
to see just how influential these women
are to the foundation of the church,
So over the past three months, the
Deacon body has begun to implement a
Widows Ministry within Cornerstone
Baptist Church. The verses from
1Timothy 5:3-8 where Paul writes to
Timothy and explains how Widows
should be treated are the verses that we

Campaign Update
Thanks to everyone who joined in the
celebration in November for the 3rd year
anniversary of the Building for Today
have used as the foundation of this
ministry.
Deacons are being assigned a widow/
single older lady from our church body,
who qualify, to begin ministering to.
Deacons are being asked to give of their
time and of their Christian love for these
women so that a relationship can be
forged.
It would be the Deacon’s desire to be
available to minister to these ladies on a
regular basis by providing.
 regular calls or visits
 a resource for those nagging
household fixes
 a support system for other issues
that are typically male-dominated
like automobile repair, plumbing or
electrical issues, just to name a few

and Tomorrow capital campaign. It is
hard to imagine that it has actually been
three years since we collectively
pledged $1,500,000 over three years to
fund the construction of the new
Children’s Wing and staff offices. As
always, God has been faithful to provide
for our congregation, and you have been
faithful in giving. Through December
15, we have collected $1,541,641.66 for
the Campaign. Thank you very much.
As you know, our opportunity now is to
keep up the momentum in the extended
fourth year of the Campaign, and to pay
off our bank debt by the end of 2011.
As of December 15, Cornerstone owes
$624,514.00. The end is truly in sight!!
Won’t you please consider a special gift
from a tax refund or other means to help
get us over the finish line??

prayer for the Widow/ Single Older
Ladies Ministry…that it will allow God
to do a mighty work throughout our

MUSIC MINISTRY UPDATES

A Note from Dave

We have just concluded a month-long celebration of our Savior’s birth. During the past 4 weekends
of December the Youth, Children and Adults have presented Musical programs that have touched our
hearts in so many ways! We laughed with the cast of Objects @ Christmas and stood at attention for
Angel Alert. We celebrated with the Songs of Christmas at the Cornerstone Choir Concert and
looked with awe and wonder as the children acted out the First Noel on Christmas Eve. All of these
productions did not happen with one person in charge. It took many, many individuals to prepare
and present the four special events. And even more to cook, clean up and store all the props! Thank
you, congregation for your continued support of the Music Ministry at CBC.

Looking ahead to 2011, I am excited that in January, the Worship Task Force will be presenting it’s
final report and recommendations to the congregation. Then in April, the Music & Drama ministry
will give a 3-night performance of the EASTER PAGEANT. Why not think ahead? After all I’ve
been receiving EASTER preview packs from music publishers since September of 2010, while
working on all the programs I mentioned above!

On a personal note:
This month (January 3-27) Terry will be leading a group of 19 students from Elon University to
Kerala, India for a Winter Term study abroad course which includes an intensive service-learning
project. The target audience for their traveling science centers are middle school students. Please
pray for her as she travels, teaches and leads her students.

In March, Terry and I will be celebrating our 25th Wedding Anniversary and Joshua will be
graduating in May from Liberty University will a BA in Worship & Music with a specialization in
Intercultural Studies. Please join with his parents as we pray for God’s continued guidance as Josh
seeks what is next for his life and ministry. We are excited to see what GOD has planned for our son!

With a New Year upon us, I thought it fitting to give you a few New Year’s Quotes
that I found on the Web.
 An Optimist stays up until midnight to see the new year. A pessimist stays up to make sure
the old year leaves.
 We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves.
The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year’s Day.
 Cheers to a new year and another chance to get it right.
 For last year’s words belong to last year’s language and next year’s words await another
voice.
 Ring out the old, ring in the new. Ring, happy bells, across the snow; The year is going, let him go; Ring out the false,
ring in the true.
 Drop the last year into the silent limbo of the past. Let it go, for it was imperfect, and thank God that it can go.

MEN’S MINISTRY NEWS
Have you ever wondered if we’re missing it? It’s
crazy, if you think about it. The God of the
universe—the Creator of nitrogen and pine
needles, galaxies and E-minor—loves us with a
radical, unconditional, self-sacrificing love. And
what is our typical response? We go to church,
sing songs, and try not to cuss. Whether you’ve
verbalized it yet or not...we all know something's
wrong. Does something deep inside your heart
long to break free from the status quo? Are you
hungry for an authentic faith that addresses the
problems of our world with tangible, even radical,
solutions? God is calling you to a passionate
love relationship with Himself. Because the
answer to religious complacency isn’t working

This wonderful study looks at the
names of God and how they apply to
our life. Please sign up on the Women's

We plan to offer child care for the
Friday morning study, but will need
your help! If you are willing to
volunteer for one or more Friday
mornings in the spring, please let Cassy
know. All lessons will be provided for
you. Your willingness to volunteer will
bless many moms who would otherwise
be unable to participate in a Bible study.

IRONMEN Ministry small groups will be
starting a 10 week study in Francis Chan’s

be a study you do not want to miss.
