Course Description: This course is designed in such a way that, to explain the basic concepts
of computer networks, Functionality of network layers, Basics of internet, web servers and
fundamentals of HTML tags to develop a website, basic VB script functions etc.

Learning Outcomes: On completion of the course, the student will be able to

1. Know basics of computer networks and network layers.


2. Know Fundamentals of internet and browsers.
3. Know functionality of Web server and Search Engines.
4. Know basics of HTML tags and uses of VB script functions.

Class Section, Time & Location: The class meets 5 days a week, Monday through Friday.
Please refer the Time Table for class timing and location.

Office Hours/location: Monday- Saturday with prior appointment. CS&IT Department.

Materials and Resources: Every student is required to have a personal copy of the text
book. Students are expected to read the lecture topics from the text book before the class.
Students are also required on a regular basis to collect additional information from journals in
the library and the internet on various topics that are discussed so as to understand how the
class room topics have their relevance in the real life situations at the corporate world.

Other Policies and Procedures:


1. Must Follow: Student must spend minimum 30 minutes at home/hostel in the subject to
re-collect the daily classes. In class daily first 10 minutes will be the question answer
session about previous class. Students are not allowed to use laptops during the class
hours.

2. Attendance: A minimum attendance of 80% will be required to be eligible to take the
final examinations. For detailed attendance policies of KCC, please refer to the handbook.
However, it is the student’s responsibility to study all the material and/or be informed of
the course related activities or administration.
3. Final grades will be assigned on a weighted average of the marks obtained in the
summative assessments, as stipulated above.
4. Assessments: The examinations are restricted examinations, based on the topics
discussed in class. That means no material will be allowed. The assignments are all take
home assignments; hence you are expected to look for answers beyond your text book
and class notes.
5. Submission: All assignments will have to be submitted via email to my email id
mentioned above within 23.59 hours of the due date of the assignment.
6. Penalty Clause for delayed submission: Each day of delay for submission will entail a
deduction of 10 marks per day for a maximum period of five days. A score of “zero” will
be given for any component of assignment not submitted within dates specified.
7. Plagiarism: The assignment should be the original work of the student. Instances of
plagiarism found either from other students or from other resources (viz. without due
acknowledgement /referencing) will entail a FAIL grade. You will be expected to run
your assignment through plagiarism software and the originality report generated will
have to be submitted along with the assignment document.
8. Referencing: You will be expected to appropriately reference your citations, please
ensure you are clear on this before embarking on the assignment.
