Technology Integration at SCIS

Mikey Mckillip

Technology Integration
Integration is when teachers use technology to introduce, reinforce, extend, enrich, assess, and
remediate student mastery of curricular targets. Integration is an instructional choice to
incorporate collaboration and deliberate planning. Integration is collaborative by nature and must
always include the classroom teacher.

The Technology Integration Specialist (TIS) will teach technology skills to students when
needed in order to produce content-driven projects. Classroom teachers determine project and
content. The TIS will model, encourage and enable integration with classroom teachers. TIS
responsibilities to include the following:

Support: TIS to pace any/all changes as slow and as simple as possible to accommodate all
levels of comfort concerning technology integration with SCIS curriculum

Clear Expectations: TIS to work with classroom teachers to establish unified school/classroom
“Expectations for Behavior and Use of Technology at SCIS”

Celebrate Success: TIS to assist classroom teachers with highlighting SCIS Lower School
Technology Integrated Projects for Teaching Staff, Students, Parents and Community

After School Activities: TIS to provide leadership for Technology related After School Activities
for staff and students at SCIS

Planning and Collaboration: TIS to meet with grade level teaching teams at least once every
two weeks for planning and collaboration

Curriculum Mapping and Collaborative Planning of Technology Integration Projects (to

be determined by TIS and Grade Level Teaching Teams) to include the following:
- Year Long Plan and Quarterly Plans (Grade Level Curriculum and Technology Maps)
- Collaborative Unit Planning and Evaluation Sheets
- Grade Level Targets
- Grade Level Scope and Sequence

Personal Professional Growth Plan for TIS and all Teaching Staff:
Teaching Staff to share Best Practice Integrating Technology – support from admin team, all staff, students and
involved community members – to provide training opportunities and presentations
- Students use technology as a tool to express what they know, to allow for a
natural transition from teaching technology to learning with technology
- Differentiate Instruction with technology
- Teachers to embrace technology at their own comfort level
- New Technology Tools – more technology integration opportunities
- *TCIT Team (teacher only team) to embrace change

*(Possible Outcome with Admin Support)

Software/Hardware Adaptation – Technology and Curriculum Implementation Team (TCIT): To
make recommendations for new software/hardware, staff development, training, etc. for
administration adoption and approval.
