Notes on Projects #1 - #4
• Once campus is open, the prototype will be
built based on the design
Project #5 Mini Pressing (compression test) Machine
The aim of this project is to design a prototype of
mini compression test machine for soft (weak)
material testing application (food).

The machine should posses a high accuracy in

controlling the displacement. There will be several
tasks, such as the structural design, the
automation & control system design, and the
appearance/ergonomics design.

The output of this project is the prototype design

Main Supervisor : Pak Farid
that is ready for manufacturing (3D CAD).

Project #6 Anti-sway Control of Gantry Crane
The project is about mathematical modeling of gantry
crane and development of preliminary control
algorithm to minimize the sway during operation of
gantry crane.

Student will learn mathematical modeling using

Lagrangian approach and several controller
approaches using state space formulation. Guidance
will be given by the project’s main supervisor.

One student will explore an open-loop controller

Main Supervisor : Pak Djati approach and the other student will explore a closed-

Project #7 Development of Facial Recognition Algorithm

The objective of the project is to develop a

preliminary machine learning algorithm for facial
recognition purpose.

The students will be tasked to read literature on

machine learning for facial recognition, develop a
preliminary algorithm and applies it using their
camera-laptop system.

Once campus is open, the developed algorithm

Main Supervisor : Pak Djati and the system used will serve as one of
Students : 1 ME; 1 CS demonstrations at IoT Lab.

needed
Project #8 Synchronization of Multi-Robots using Distance
Based Algorithm
Students will be tasked to read literature on
distance based algorithm for multi-agent systems
and to reproduce the results by doing simulation
using MATLAB. The literature is prepared by the
main supervisor of the project.

Once campus is open, students will apply the

algorithm to two turtlebots at the IoT so that the
two robots are synchronized during their movement
(their velocity and heading). This will be used as
Main Supervisor : Pak Djati one of demonstrations at IoT Lab.
Students : 1 ME; 1 CS
This project accepts more
students if needed
Project #9 Techno-Economy Analysis
Techno-economy analysis (TEA) is an approach to
observe the feasibility of a system or concept. As
the name suggest, it covers both aspects of
technological and economy perspectives,
delivering more realistic scenarios as the solutions
for industries.

In this internship, you will highly focus on

researching to obtain the proper data,
technological and economical models, with the
extension of sensitivity study. Depending on your
research skill and performance, there is a high
possibility that you may be able to produce a
Main Supervisor : Pak Adit publication toward the end of the internship.

Project #10 SU Urban Vehicle Chassis Design
Chassis is a vehicle structure where all components
are attached to. In a computer, the chassis is
analogue to the motherboard. A good chassis has
high strength to weight ratio and also high stiffness
to weight ratio. Depending on the usage of the
vehicle, chassis must also offer good flexibility.

Chassis design involves layout design, mechanical

vibration analysis and stress analysis, so vehicle
dynamics analysis, 3D CAD and FEM are a must. This
Main Supervisor : Pak Djati/Pak is a challenging project.

Project #11 SU Urban Vehicle Suspension Design
Vehicle suspension is the component that directly
affect the ride and handling quality of the vehicle.
For a passenger car, a good suspension lets only the
comfortable-frequency to pass to the passenger
seat. For a sport/racing car, a good suspension will
make sure the tire to stick to the road under most
driving situation.

Suspension design involves mechanical vibration

and dynamic analysis. Students will be tasked to
Main Supervisor : Pak Djati/Pak learn various available suspension design and to
Adit design a suitable one for the SUUV. This is a
Students : 4 ME challenging project that will accelerate your
This project accepts more students understanding on Mechanical Vibration and Multi-
if needed body Dynamic analysis.
Project #12 Ultraviolet Disinfection Robot
Motivated by the Covid-19 pandemic situation, this
project aims to design a UV-disinfection robot. The
robot is a mobile robot that carries UV-disinfection
equipment. The UV-disinfection robot can be used
in offices, factories or hospitals.

Students will be tasked to design the structure of

the robot and the necessary mobile manipulator.
Main Supervisor : Pak Fikri/Pak Students will also be tasked to source the main
Farid components of the robot such as the UV light,
Students : 3 ME controller platform, etc.
This project accepts more students
if needed The output of the project is a design that is ready for
manufacturing (assembly).
