1.0 SCOPE
This document covers the Structural Design calculations for the proposed mono rail support beam
proposed, at various locations.
Modeling and analysis for main and secondary steel work is based on linear elastic theory.
The aim of structural design is to be provide, with due regard to economy, a support steel work capable of
fulfilling its intended function and sustaining the specified loads for its intended life.
The design of member shall be based on LRFD / Ultimate strength design and load factors shall be
considered.
2.3 Materials
Materials for Structural steel shall be as per project specification.
3.0 LOADS
Dead Load- Weight of materials forming the permanent part of the structure
Live load- Mono rail capacity –Safe Working Load (1.5Tons)
Wind load is not considered (Jibb crane is located inside the Building).
Impact Factor 1.25 is applied. (As per AISC – ASD section – 5.4.2 factor is only
1.2). However, it was revisited the design with factor 1.25 as per your request.
3.3.1 Deflection
All members of structural steel framing system should satisfy the following deflection criteria at service
loads.
The mono rail beam is analysed in STAAD PRO as an overhung beam. The Live load is considered as a
moving load.

Fy = 250 N/mm2

A2-Full C/S Area of the base supports(concrete) = 500 X 500
mm mm
I. Find A1
a) A1 = [(1/A2)*(P/0.35*f'c)2]
= 0.000004 * 2443.513
= 0.009774053 mm2
b) A1 = (P/0.7f'c)
= 24.71595238 mm2
c) A1 = bf x d
= 24981.92 mm2
Take maximum of above areas
A1 = 24981.92 mm2
II.
Deflection ∆ = 0.5(0.95d-0.8bf)
= 15.095 mm
N = √A1 + ∆
= 173.1516987 mm
B = A/N
= 144.277649 mm
Req Baseplate
size = 144.277649 X 173.1517
Provide 500mm X 500mm
Base plate size = 500 X 500
III. Check:
fp = P/(B*N)
= 0.415228 N/mm2
A2/A1 = 1
Fb = 0.35f'c(√A2/A1) ≤ 0.7f'c
= 2.1 ≤ 4.2
Use 2.1
fp < Fb
Hence OK
IV.
m = (N-0.95d)/2 = 173.15 mm
n = (B-0.8b) = 188.24 mm
V.
Base shear q = 4 fp d bf /(d+bf)2*Fp λ=1
= 0.8715012 < 1 OK
= 0.8715012 > 0.64 OK
