Individual Project: Task 1

Section 1(700 words +/-10%)

You are required to choose two secondary memory (HDD and SSD) from different
manufacturers integrated with DDR4 RAM and Processor. Storage device
manufacturers include HGST, Seagate Technology, Toshiba etc. Perform your
research by analyzing and comparing the architecture and organization of these
storage.

To perform the above task, you need to do the following:

 Compare and contrast HDD and SSD capacity and performance with the help
of speed (file opening, file copy/write), access time and clock frequency.
 Compare power consumption
 Compare the cost of each devices (based on local markets)

A report (700 words) of this analysis and comparison, with recommendations, should
be compiled and submitted. You are expected to conduct research external to
lectures (such as, finding evidence to support your claims from manufacturer
websites, journal /conference articles, etc.)

Section 1(800 words +/-10%)

Fountain college is one of the leading colleges in Nepal, which is based in

Kathmandu. This college is the largest privately-owned academy in Nepal with
approximately 1200 students and 100 members of staff. Staffs are increasingly
working across the different faculties and departments and find it difficult to manage
accessing their works and other relevant activities. The campus chief has decided to
run all user accounts from the single system.

Suppose you are appointed as a technical officer in one of the leading ISP. Your
company has won a contract to set up a network for Fountain college. Your network
manager would like you to demonstrate your ability to design and setup a small
business network for that college. There are different department in the organization
followed by exam, operation, IT, faculty and Admin. All the department are separate
from each other. Recently, none of the connections are available to communicate
with. You need to design the network for the connection of these branches.
Administration will be advised according to the topology diagram. While sketching the
diagram, Logical diagram should be drawn. The network topology should be flexible

to extend to the others whenever needed. While designing and developing your
network you must include:
 Network topology and cabling
 Proper subnetting
 Intermediary Devices
 Security Devices
 Cost of each components

For this project you need to do survey and make report (800 words). The network
design should be managed. All the materials cost should be mentioned according to
most recent market price.

SUBMISSION:

 Your report should be submitted online via the submission gateway on

Softwarica Moodle and then submit hard copies (3 copies, spiral binding) to the
respective department.

1. Must cover all the information mentioned in Task 1 and Task 2 both

4. Must use appropriate references.

 Findings of your report (200 words) mentioning the significance of both tasks
(Task 1 and Task 2) to the subject of Computer Architecture and Networks.
This report should also indicate what you learnt from your research and what, if
