Activity Plan

Objective: (what you want children to learn) (one only) 5 points

The point of this activity is to help children identify different colors.

Materials: 5 points

● Different colored construction paper that has been sealed in plastic (avoid tearing and
reusable for different activities)
● [red (being careful not to get a similar darkness to purple), blue, yellow, purple, green
(the color will not be lime green, it will be a green that is darker but not easily mistakable
to blue), and orange for each individual, including the teacher]

Scaffolding: (child's prior knowledge this activity is building on) 5 points

Children are already aware of colors that surround them, my goal is for them to be able to
identify the different colors and name them.

Procedure: (in detail - how to carry out the activity) 5 points

1. I will start off by telling the children to say hi to their desk neighbor, (ideally the desks
are in pairs of two), and tell them that they will be working with that person for this
lesson (with the purpose of having the children work and communicate well together).
2. I will then start handing out the different colored papers to each student.
3. After handing it out, I’ll tell the students that we are learning about colors.
4. I will instruct them that after I ask a question, they will have to raise the correct color
high in the air (I will demonstrate for them, and raise one sheet over my head).

5. To warm them up to the idea, I’ll ask if the children have a favorite color and ask them to
raise them high (if they do not have a favorite color, they can raise the color that stands
out the most to them).
6. I will ask the kids with each question, if they could please raise the color ______, and
once I see that all students have participated, I will then raise the correct one.
● If there is a blind child in my classroom, at the end of each question, I can help connect
the colors to emotions, to help them get a better understanding.

● I will have this picture as a visual for class and ask everyone how does the _____ person
feel, having them identify the facial expressions (not reading the words).

● I will then explain each emotion, reading them out loud with an animated voice that
represents each emotion.

DAP support: (page number and short quote that supports your activity) 5 points

Mental Representation (pages 133-134): “mental representations are internal depictions of

information that our minds can manipulate-images or mental pictures of people or objects”

Open ended questions for children: (questions to make a child think) 5 points

● “Now that you have learned the different colors, which is your favorite?”
● “Which color sounds the best to you?”
● “What can you find that is your favorite color?”
● “What color is your favorite fruit?”
● “Which colors are harder for you to recognize?”
● “Do any of the colors look the same to you? Why/How?
