1. Title Of The Article : Alien Species : Fitting In

3. Summary :
The topic of the article are rarely discussed by most of people, that is the alien

species. It makes the article quite interesting since it tells what is happening towards the

alien and all the controversy among scientists about its existence. This article talks about

what goverment, private groups even individuals consider about the alien species. The alien

species itself are generally defined as bad creatures, which means dangerous and ruin the

ecosystems. This belief truly change people’s view to eradicate them on the earth, without

knowing the amount to of alien species existence nowadays. Some scientists even relize that

its existence does not cause problem in the habitat they are living. It is just the matter of

how government have to control their number, not about how to kill them all. Even though,

when the alien species amount is getting bigger and start to disturb the ecosystem, big steps

should be taken as soon as possible.

Derr reveal that the stereotype among people sometimes leads to wrong decision.

He prioritize the debate and stance of both people’s point of view and scientific analysis. So,

the best way to justify the stereotype is by giving scientific analysis and its supported

evidence. One of the example is eradication of non-native water buffalo in Australia. But,

the eradication of non-native water buffalo causes the explosive growth of a little-noticed

plant in return, which is more destructive. Through this analytical example, Derr try to
reveal that banishing the alien species is not the best way to deal with. In pursuit of the

conclusion, Derr then comes to what Dr. Rosenzweig stated, “Ecologist should focus on

managing the environments that include exotic immigrants,” Therefore, the conclution is

that those problems has been caused by alien species is not simply because its existence,

and the better way to overcome this by control its number. Even in fact every single species

could cause the environmental problem.

What the goverment have to do is maintain of the ecosystem since the eradication

of the alien species does not produce any good solution to the environment, even the risk

will get higher if the eradication of the alien species is still continued.

4. What is the writer’s message or purpose in writing this article

The witer wants to explain that there are some opinions for the presence of alien

species and help the reader to analyze the problem themself. He wants to follow up on

what exactly most people consider about the alien species and how the stereotype affects

what most people prefer to do towards the alien species. The writer also trying to open up

our eyes towards this kind of living thing in a scientific way and invite the reader to preserve

our environment and maintain the balance of our ecosystem.

5. Give your personal comment on the article as a conclusion of your article review.

The presence of the Alien Species can increase the number of the species diversity in

our environment, although it can be harmful and disturb native species. For me, the

problems that alien species made is complex, so the better method is to control its number.

Even in fact every single species could cause the environmental problem. About the text, the

style of writing is good because it let the reader to think and decide by their own self which
side is better way in pursuit of the solution of the problem. In respect of the article, the

reviewer tend to believe in what scientists said, that the centre of this problem is on the

method of controlling the number of alien species, not about the existence of alien species.
